The new plastic MacBook also has a backlit keyboard
It doesn't appear that way, according to the specs:

The "douche bags" who got the 13" MBP got it for things like the glass trackpad, the lack of plastic that cracked and yellowed, the lack of a quality display, lighted keys... need I say more?

Not that I agree with the douche bag statement, but now most of those things are moot... other than the lit keyboard.

I am curious at how the new LED display looks, is it like the old unibody screen or the MBP screen, or is it better? I await some buyers to try it out.
(And yes it could be better, cause I would love for my umbp 13 screen to be as bright as my old umb with the same improved contrast.

Its $999 and does everything a 13" MBP does with the exception of firewire. But do you really use firewire that often? I would get the white just because so many ****** **** got the 13" MBP because it has the word "PRO" in it.

It's exactly the same screen as the 13" unibody MBP.

I doubt it. I would imagine it is exactly the same display as the unibody macbook pre-June. Nothing in the macbook site says anything about 60% greater color gamut.

If I were to buy a new computer right now and had to choose between the MB and MBP. I would get the MB and save $200. There isn't going to be a noticeable speed increase, they both have glass trackpads and they both have glossy screens. Plus I don't have to worry about denting or scratching the aluminum, I can through it in a backpack and not care (I know the white will get scratched but its not as noticeable)

I can't justify an extra $200 for aluminum, SD and Firewire. I don't even use firewire. I will miss having an SD slot though.

I don't see why the LED screens wouldn't be the exact same. Makes no sense from a purchasing standpoint when you can buy in bulk and save as a company.

EDIT: Apple says it's the same LED screen.

Haven't bought many Macs then. Yes, you'd think the display would be the same but I certainly wouldn't count on it. The lit keyboard is an awesome thing too.

My next Mac will be my first Mac. I've had enough with Windows.

Anyway, I still think Apple should have moved the 2.53 GHz MBP to the entry level model and killed off the 2.26 MBP with the new Macbook. I can't see anyone looking to buy an MBP after seeing this model.

Unless they really, really need Firewire and SD.

you guys forgot about the bigger harddrive in the macbook. 250 GB FTW!!!

Wait a little while. When they do this (release a close competing model), they usually sneak in a silent update a few weeks later to justify the price difference and make it more appealing.

You forget the ability to add up to 8gb ram. That will come in handy some day(if not for you, it will help in resale value).

lol, you don't need firewire, but sd slot is more important? You can find a .10 cent sd to usb reader for less than a $1 on ebay. You can't add firewire to this new mb :p

Who wants to bet the silent update for the 13 inch MBP will include 250gb hd... and 2.4ghz for low end and 2.66 for high end? :)

Kind of missing the point of comparing the standard MB with the entry level MBP, and the $200 price difference.

So yes, the MB wins on the hard drive comparison.

Kind of missing the point that the MacBook doesn't have the expansion options that the MBP has, in terms of hard drive, processor speed, RAM, etc. The expandability is worth the difference.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a matte option.

I never buy a computer for a HDD. Nearly every Fujitsu/Hitachi/Seagate Apple supplied drive fails within two years so I always do my own anyway.

after the release of the new products i went out and bought myself the entry level 13" mbp i got to play with the new macbook and it just doesn't feel as nice as the aluminum... i realize this will show dents and scratches more but the sd card slot and the backlit keyboard are enough that anyone who owns a digital camera or ever has to work late at night on a paper (every single college student) will definitely appreciate the pro over the white macbook

Funny, doesn't seem like you read the rules (that you posted) either. Was he directly insulting another member? No.

Love my SD cardslot & lit keyboard. ;)

What's up with the 4GB RAM limit in MB's?

THAT is the #1 reason to get the pro, it has a much longer possible lifespan with the 8GB ram limit.... i was wondering when someone would point that out

He was insulting every member who had purchased a 13" MBP. The poster understood the rule and adjusted his post, accordingly.

Yes, but the MBP offers twice as many choices, including SSD.

Hahaha it's funny reading some of the ridiculous comments on here trying to defend the MacBook pro. How many people use FireWire these days? And just exactly how many people do you know that isn't an apple geek who puts 8 gig of ram in a 13" laptop?
It's hardly anyone and the new MacBook beats the MacBook pro on value and a lot of people and students will see it that way too which is what apple are no doubt hoping for.
The screens are the same, the CPU is pretty good and I only know a few people with plastic MacBooks but none have had any cracking issues. Not to mention the graphics are also the same as is the chipset.

No idea what Market the 13" mbp is aimed at now because if your a pro then you would no doubt opt for at least a 15" machine?
