Agree, in this case bigger is better. When I purchased my previous 13 inch MBP was tempted to buy the 15, but found it too heavy. That issue was solved with the current 15 inch rMBP's so I did the logic thing..... Selling my 13 and buying a 15 inch!!!

Easy decision for me. I've alway been a 15" man. Going 13" would be a step down. And when spending this kind of money you shouldn't go half way or you will eventually have regrets. It hurts, but go all the way and be happy for years to come. Within a year you will have forgotten the few hundred extra bucks. But that 13" toy will be staring you in the face. Besides, the 15" has bigger balls

Well my self worth isn't based on the size of my rMBP. I love the mentality here that the bigger one is of course better and the only reason to get the smaller one is to save money. For some, smaller is better. I could have gotten the 15" but chose the 13" for size and portability. The 13" is in no way a toy.

It's definitely not a self worth thing for me. It's what I am more comfortable using. And watching. Maybe I'm weird, but I like watching movies on a bigger screen. If it was some kind of "Self Worth" thing like you insinuated then I would have gotten that 17" when I had the chance. I considered it, but it was too big. And the Bigger balls reference meant that it is a more powerful machine than the i5 Duel core 13" MBP. Also, obviously the 13" is better for many people. More power to them for sure, but if you are agonizing between the two, then what that means is you really want the 15". So...Be good to yourself and get what it is that you want

I think most of us would hope it would not change lol … but the macbook air might, considering its been 2 1/2-3 years.

I'd have happily gone with a 13" rMBP if there was one with a discrete GPU. That's it's only failing IMO.

It depends on your application. If you want games, then I would agree. For my applications a discrete GPU would have made no perceptible difference and the lack of a discrete GPU lets the machine run really cool. This is easily the coolest running Apple laptop I've used in years.

I don't think they will make it any thinner and I hope they don't. I'd rather they put in a faster cpu+gpu and more battery life and keep the same thickness, rather than compromise so they can make it more anorexic..

Oh, and I know that the 13" isn't a toy. It just feels that way to me after using the 15" for so many years

reply to the initial question: no don't think so.... however following the latest replies... after the last refreshment I started thinking that now the 15 really fulfills my needs... now it is as light as my actual 13 MBP, with double power and good graphics.... however the price kept me from buying it.... I just put an ssd in my 13 mbp '11 and I am just fine.

That's good for you. You just extended the life of your machine for at least a couple of years, there's really no reason for you to get another one. In 2015 or 2016 you'll be in the market for a REAL monster machine.

Is the upcoming MBPr going to be thinner?

Not compared to the EVEN REALER monster machines of 2017.

Lol. It is always something guys/gals

Yeah, well the word is the one after Broadwell is supposed to be world altering. But they said that about Haswell 4 years ago. My thing is different though. When the retina came out a year ago I wanted it. But I refused to buy 1st generation. So when the new one comes out, that's it. I can't wait no more. My current 2009 MBP is killing me. So regardless of processor names I'm pulling the trigger

I'm with you on that one. I want the 13" rMBP. the 4000 is is holding me back.
Looking at lenovo and apple. Need a new laptop by fall '13 latest.
Hoping Apple will have a discrete GPU in the 13" rMBP by then.
Even if its a step down from the 15", I'll be fine with that.

You'll be moving on I guess because integrated graphics is here to stay in the MBP13.

HD3000 has been working fine for me - looking forward to HD6000 in Summer of 2014 bay-bee!

Seriously... I just configured a new Lenovo for a work colleague. It took me 3 hours to remove all the bloatware crap, tweak the registry and remove the startup crap nobody will ever use. Another hour to completely remove Norton anti-virus. (I'd rather put up with the virus - Norton *is* a virus).

Just saying... between the lack of dGPU and the *alternative* you might want to rethink things.

Apple just released the new design last year , new designs usually last for a couple of years so I'm 99% sure it will not be thinner ;)

To me the rMBP isn't a new design. It's a modification by stripping away the superdrive and using the free space to make the laptop thinner. It almost looks the same to me.

The last new design is when Apple switched to unibody MBP.

I am honestly wondering why this whole thing is an issue for you. Apple developed the MacBook Pro for a laptop capable of HIGH PERFORMANCE not PORTABILITY. The mBPR is still very portable for how much power it has. Not to mention that if you really wanted to get something thinner, Apple has the MacBook Air for you. I wouldn't mind them bulking them up a bit as long as they have more power in them.

Did they? I can't really tell any more. From my perspective it seems they are equal priorities for Apple right now. Meaning, they would easily sacrifice performance for higher portability.

I'm not saying that as a bad thing, I'm just noting how I don't think "high performance" is top priority for Apple.

what makes the 13" rmbp a pro, the retina screen? I think the macair would be a better buy in that case. The 15" rmbp has great specs. prefer 13" form factor for my next purchase.
Right now, it's worth waiting for refresh and re assessing the new models.

fwiw, easier way to remove bloatware from lenovo is installing linux.

Take what I say lightly. It's meant to be questioning, not offensive.

for the next 2 years we will not see any thinner designs. This time they update apple motto from last 2 years and i mean they will increase the battery like in iPads to 9-10h usage.

No, it's all marketing. "Pro" is an overused product buzzword. Don't get caught up in the hype. (I think you can even buy "pro" toothpaste and underarm deodorant these days).

"worth" is a subjective term. Get something when you need it. I don't think any MBP with or without Haswell is going to be a deal breaker for anyone. That said, I never experience buyer's remorse or OCD for my Apple products like many here do.

The world does not use linux my friend. (It barely uses OSX for that matter).

When will the new rMBP come out? I'm really hoping it comes out before September this year.

The 13" rMBP has a faster processor than the 13" Air with better cooling. It also has dual Thunderbolt ports and HDMI which makes it easier to use with multiple external displays.

Well those are positives. Like 13" for portability, and large monitor for home.

my laptop heats up and shutsdown with hdmi out to a 46" lcd.
Is there some kind of improvement with the macbook for hdmi out?
My laptop is windows and 3 years old.
