Do you have teenaged kids or pre-teens? I do...and they both have ipod touches...as do all of their friends...and all of them to a kid, would love to have an iPad...yet very few do...the cost (or the perceived cost) is just too high for them buy or more likely, for their parents to folk over...IF apple can produce an affordable (under $300) mini iPad, I believe they will sell like hot cakes to this market segment alone...I would think more than enough to make the mini-iPad a profitable little puppy...if Apple plays its cards right the mini-iPad will be hottest, must have 'toy' of this Christmas season...I gotta think that's what they are aiming at; how could they not?

Whether you get it or not, $300 is very real and important price barrier...cross it and many parents will bock, even if a mere $150 gets you something better...

Everybody I know who has kids is drooling at the prospect of an iPad mini!

Is there a point for this thread....?

Is there a point of discussing weather or not a Ipad mini will sell or not.... If Apple make it, it will sell...and sell very well... Is that not the lesson of past years?

Apple will sell more iPad Minis than iPads within a year, or less, of releasing them. People want cheaper tablets, history has shown this to be true (HP Touchpad fire sale, Amazon Kindle, countless other cheap/crappy Android based tablets). People also love iOS, which is why many of the aformentioned tablets are returned for iPads. People suck it up and pay the Apple Tax.

Apple has never been afraid to cannibalize it's own products in order to push forward to gain market share and margins for a new device. They'll do the same with the iPad Mini. Note, it was never Apple's intent to make a "smaller" iPad. With the Mini they were first and foremost concerned about making a "cheaper" iPad. In all reality the rumored screen size for the Mini is still quite large considering some of the other "mini" tablets on the market. I bet Apple looked at the economics and found the sweet spot for balancing the largest screen possible for the Mini versus the % reduction in price they could sell it for while still keeping their customary 35-40% profit margins.

I believe the Mini will seal the deal and that Apples market share on tablets will push up to 90%. It'll put so much downward pricing pressure on other tablets that most of the other manufacturers will discontinue tablets. Apple is dropping the other foot.
