around 170 for 16gb version in the UK

but when did apple or apple users ever care about price? as long as its cheaper than full size ipad the faithfull will flock to buy it.

yea, but the iPad-Mini is presumed to be non retina, slower processor, possibly smaller ram, less powerful graphics, for 300-300+?

if one isnt a apple fandom or has money to spend without thinking about the value of the product, than yea no problem.

but like i said, the idea is to tap into the average consumer, and with those specs and that price, its a no brainer that it isnt worth it. if they make it retina and around those prices itll be worth its value.

but if not, i dont see it selling much with the price tag of 300+. people would just rather get something thats less than half that price. which are the 170 dollar tablets.

if its 249, possibly less it can be game changer and eat u its competitors, if not than i dont see it selling and if it doesnt sell, there is absolutely no point.

and when i mean sell i dont mean that people arnt going wait in lines infront of stores, when i mean it doesnt sell, i mean its not racking in the speculated profits, and making ends meet when it comes to the investment that was put into it.

i just dont see a huge selling point, because it doesnt seem majority of consumers aren't going to buy it. business are basically out, since they rather just go itouch/iphone or iPad.

and the average consumer isnt gonna want lug that 7" screen everywhere they go. more likely if your posting on this forum, your not the average consumer.

To be perfectly blunt with you, you don't have any idea what "an average consumer" would or wouldn't want. I personally know 5-7 people who will immediately order a smaller form-factor / lower cost iPad, as soon as it goes on sale.

You continue to confuse your personal tastes and preferences with those of others. This thread is a waste of space, just as many other identical threads in the past.

its staggering how you talk about apple products and value. None of their stuff is value for money absolutely none of it.

my prediction is it will sell and they will make money. There will even be a mini-ipad 2 in about a years time.

Maybe you should contact apple im sure they would appreciate your input.

p.s i note how your arguement has changed from "i have iphone & ipad whats the point of ipad mini" to " well it depends on the price if it will sell"

Here's my price prediction. It will be more expensive than android 7inch tablets but will still sell they will still make money and there will be another mini-ipad next year. Lets see whos right

whats the point of it? i mean honestly, i have an iphone and an ipad

The point is, I have an iPhone and want an iPad but refuse to buy the huge one they offer. I have been waiting for a smaller one since day one before I buy it.

If you are happy with your 10 inch iPad, good for you. The point is some people want a smaller one.

i love it how you completely ignored what you said about the business aspect of the argument.

good sir, you got ethered
Are you aware that you're arguing with yourself in this thread? I don't care about the business market. YOU were the one who brought up the business aspect and all I'm saying is "what do you know" because... well, what do you know?

You should seriously consider re-reading your posts without the "ether" because your responses are so schizophrenic.

Such flawed logic. In the existing smartphone market then there are cheaper alternatives to the iPhone yet Apple managed to get a huge marketshare because people are willing to pay more for the OS. Yet when it comes to the 7" Tablet market then "people would just rather get something thats less than half that price."?!?!

You are all over the place with these excuses, but it's still just a rumored device so why not allow it to exist before making such absurd assumptions about why it will fail?

Good grief. "Speculated Profits"? (speculated by who? You?!?!?) "Apple Making ends Meet"? (On a smaller size of an existing product where the cogs are already all in place?!?)! I really hope that this thread is just a brilliant joke and youre just trolling everyone with these absurd comments.

This is where I'd put my money - this discussion about price misunderstands the whole Apple business model. They don't compete on price, they build premium products that sell for premium prices, and they're pretty successful at it.

lol i argued if it was going to sell because, people we're coming at me with that subjuct, i didnt change i still dont think theres an absolute need to come out with a mini tablet. i just think the market of it is going to be small, not as big as the iPad or the iTouches/iPhones.

but yes, I'm more than happy to see if it survives

there's not an absolute need for apple to come out with half the products they come out with it doesn't mean its not worthwhile for them

no **** the market will be smaller than that of iphone but i could see it get close to full size ipad sales eventually. Even if it doesn't reach ipad volumes does that mean its not worth doing?

lets face it you know nothing of the costs of the ipad mini , have no idea what margin apple will make and dont know how they measure in sales terms if a device is worth making or not.

Their sales forecast for ipad, which i think they sand bagged a bit, were around 3 million in the first year. Is this the level of sales to make a device worth doing? ipads eventually sold about 15 million units in the first year. With the nexus 7 forecast to do 8million i would say itys very much a market apple would want a device in.

The main thing you dont get is apples main strategy. That is to get as many people as possible into their "ecosystem" thats how they keep customers long term and keep those revenues flowing from itunes/app store

schizophrenic? because, im just arguing what your saying to me, if im changing the subject, its because u do.

if it doesnt sell, and i told you why its market wasnt gonna be huge, so thus if it doesnt sell theres no point. and yes besides the selling i still dont think theres a huge point of it except for just a personal use if u want apple product but u have a android phone and a labtop. or wtvr the case.

besides that i honestly think its going to survive with a huge price tag.

oh man, how can u bring up the iphone in the conversation? im not talking about the iphone, they pay for the OS and the device, and the fact that its a iPod/phone in one was the huge selling point, and of course the OS is great, but what the hell? most people dont even think about the OS they just think the OS is just part of the iphone they see it as one. so its just the IPHONE to regular consumer. they dont say the "OS" is easier to use, they say the iphone is easier to use.

besides that fact, if you walk into the apple store (and lets say the mini was released by then)

you see a iPhone for 199, you see a iTouch for 199, you see an iPad for 499, than you see a iPad-Mini for what anywhere from 299 (which i highly doubt they would go that low) to 349 dollars.

which isnt retina display (in which all those other products have) slower processor, and crappier graphics. and for what basically 150 more and u have a much better product, and if u can afford a an expensive iPad-mini u can damn well afford a regular ipad. its just common sense to just get the bigger larger product.

unless you really just want a smaller tablet and overpay, which most people do not do. they dont just buy expensive crap without thinking twice, unless you come from some spoiled background.

do i know apples speculated profits? obviously not, but you dont think they do have speculated profits? speculated sales? like any OTHER BUSINESS?

make ends meet, yes what do you think, just because their richest company on this planet right now, u think they'll be fine by losing money?

if they dont make back what they invested, and then some? their goal is not go backwards, yes of course they want to make ends meet WITH THIS PRODUCT.

im not sure how you get make ends meet WITH THIS INVESTMENT (as in the mini-iPad) mixed up with the whole company in general.

the 17" MBP was gone because it wasn't selling, programmers loved it especially the old ones with failing eyes because of old age. but they can make due with a 15" especially with the retina display and they can just make the resolution bigger if so.

but it didnt sell, and im sure they had a major surplus of them and they didnt make the profits they thought they would, and they were probably losing money,

if they weren't why discontinue it right?

and the 17" is personal preference, just like what you been arguing the whole time, personal preference of a few (whether its 1,000 for 20,000) isnt going to make it last.

the fact is less people have the use for a 7" tablet, than a 10" and ive said this plenty of times, business wise, school wise. the only thing people would get it would be for personal use. and thats not many considering most dont get tablet PCs.

a 7" tablet is just as mobile as a 10", it isnt going to be something MOST people are gonna carry around all the time.

even the samsung note pushes it, how many people are going to want to have that big piece of crap in their pockets?

if the price is too high and its not retina, i dont think its going to sell, and when it doesnt sell and they discontinue it.

the average consumer is going to have a smartphone, and theyll look at the mini, and probably think why do i need this, or do i need this. they already have a smart phone.

are they really going to pay 300+ for a couple of inches of real estate, or if they do want a tablet, might as well pay for 150 more for a much better product.

i mean if u want to get ripped off for a cheaper product just for the size is the main reason u want over pay, thats the individual's decision, but lmao but you think the majority think like that and would waste money liek that?

Do you have teenaged kids or pre-teens? I do...and they both have ipod touches...as do all of their friends...and all of them to a kid, would love to have an iPad...yet very few do...the cost (or the perceived cost) is just too high for them buy or more likely, for their parents to folk over...IF apple can produce an affordable (under $300) mini iPad, I believe they will sell like hot cakes to this market segment alone...I would think more than enough to make the mini-iPad a profitable little puppy...if Apple plays its cards right the mini-iPad will be hottest, must have 'toy' of this Christmas season...I gotta think that's what they are aiming at; how could they not?

Whether you get it or not, $300 is very real and important price barrier...cross it and many parents will bock, even if a mere $150 gets you something better...

ahh kids, never brought that into equation, im 23, not having kids anytie soon

I never had a need for an iPad and decided that $500/$400 was too much to spend on something I didn't need. If they come out with an iPad mini in the 250-300 price range, I will more than likely pull the trigger.

23? Well that explains a lot. I'll back off then, but in all seriousness you should consider waiting for that ink to dry on your diploma before you go around pushing your "business expertise" or trying to school people on how the world works because you have a lot more to learn than you have to teach.

whats the point of it? i mean honestly, i have an iphone and an ipad, why would i need a mini? why would anyone else want a mini? i mean because of financial reasons? i cant see the mini being that much cheaper than the original, and why they would want a device with less real estate.

i mean does apple want a variety of products? than why did they discontinue the 17inch MBP?

imo, if they go through with it, its going to be a flop. im not going to say its gonna be horrible, but i doubt its going to meet expectations.

just a waste of resources, why not invest on something else and bring something unique to the table.

is that it apple? your just going to milk the iphone/ipad till u get sucked dry?

It appears you have a 13" MacBook Pro... What was the point in buying that!? Why would you want that device with less real estate than the 15" MacBook Pro. I have a 27" iMac and I definitely can't understand why you would want a 13" MacBook Pro!!

Oh wait, I know why!!! Because things that work for you sometimes don't work for me and vice versa. People PREFER different things - such as device sizes. It is certainly NOT going to be a flop. I would bet that a majority of people who have been thinking about purchasing a Kindle or the like will look into the iPad 'mini' instead.

didnt have a choice, got it for free from the company to compile, test, and do a little bit of coding. trust me i would much rather have a 15" to have the extra real estate. even a 17" just to make my life easier switching from window and comparing stuff, but wouldnt make my traveling easier.

i'm on the go, im never at the office so no, i cant have a 27" iMac even if i wanted one because its no use for it. i have to travel a lot. honestly i probably wouldnt even have a mac if it wasnt for my job.

anyways, done with this thread.

What do you do for work? I'm just curious.

not everyone fits into the "one size fits all" category. people want different things. What's the point of making bigger or smaller cars? Why don't they make just a "one size fits all" and call it a day??

Like the iPhone?
Seems to me Apple will soon have contradicting philosophies on device size.
Or could it possibly be tha the almighty Apple will be responding to competition and the tablet marketplace?

a small undermanned ERP software company.

You are a small undermanned ERP software company or you work for one? See, I am a sales executive with a large ERP creation, consulting, and implementation company and most of what you've said on here is incorrect, at least for the companies I work with (20% of the Fortune 500). Most of them are creating ERP portals that link their mobile devices (more often than not, the iPad) with their systems. They don't want it on their iPhone or Android device because the screen is much too small. MANY, MANY, MANY of my customers ask if what we could do will be compatible with the iPad mini if it comes out because that would be optimal for their use.

So just because you work for "a small undermanned ERP software company" doesn't mean that you know what the customers want. My teams executive assistant has no clue what my customers want.

We are prominently in the HR part of ERP... That is our specialty. As for industry, we do all. But I try to stay within the Technology, Energy, Finance, and Pharmaceutical industries for my prospecting. They have money to spend!

wow crazy, my company is trying to make solutions for all but we have a long road ahead of us.

good to hear that u tend to fortune 500 hundred companies, thats my goal one day

Think about the time that you will spend on iPad mini. Is it worth?

Yes, it is worth it because most of the stuff we do will already work fine on the iPad 'mini'. We designed our software to work a certain way on screen below 5 inches, another way between 5 inches and 10 inches, and a different way on 11+ inches.

You'll get there. Basing what I am about to say off the comments you have made on the forums, I have one recommendation for you: Listen to what others say at all times, after everyone else has spoken their opinions, only then should you give yours.

You'll be good, man! Good luck with your journey!
