Every single new iPhone design has had some issue which people made fun of. It's just the nature of a highly popular product.

iPhone 4 "antennagate".

iPhone 5 "scuffgate".

iPhone 6 "bendgate".

In a way it's kind of funny. If you're being offended by people cracking harmless jokes about your phone, maybe you should add more variety to your life experiences.

Sometimes I wish my life were simple enough to worry about what other people think about my phone.

I'm sure it's been said many times before but anyone who thinks THIS is "Apple's darkest moment" both doesn't really grasp what a dark moment is and hasn't been around Apple for very long.

I love how he says that the iPhone 6 and Plus is using outdated old tech, every single thing about the new iPhones is superior to the competition basically right now

Apple A8 GPU (GX6650) is directly on par/sometimes beats the Adreno 420 in the Snapdragon 805

The Apple A8 64 bit dual core CPU is easily better then the latest and greatest right now and offers CPU performance similar to a K1 Denver 64 bit SoC (2.5 GHZ Dual core)

And considering the K1 is only in tablets right now and no phone, Apple A8 takes the cake

Also with the new iPhones having the best smartphone cameras on the market (DxO says this and they are beyond reputable and certified to claim this

And DisplayMate labels the new iPhone 6 screen panels ("the best LCD displays ever put in a smartphone")

The phone offers 20 LTE bands also, (S5 for the record only has 7 LTE bands) these new iPhones truly are world phones

So what exactly is outdated in the new iPhones? It just gets me a little mad when people spew nonsense saying the new iPhones are outdated and have outdated hardware LOL

I don't know about all of the details, but I know it allows me to do what I like to do comfortably, which is make calls, search the web and see everything clearer and bigger, whether that is text, pictures or typing on a bigger keyboard. The keyboard is actually great size for me even with medium size hands. I am able to easily touch the keyboard key I want. I have calused fingers so my touch accuracy on the small keys and things wasn't always good on my smaller iphone 5, but is fine now on the 6+ because I can put down a bigger portion of my finger on the screen to select a key. Also, I think with winter gloves on when it gets cold I will be able to use my gloves and even be able to do stuff on my 6+ with them on, that I couldn't do before. JMO, I got the 6+ a few days ago and have been watching the forum and threads with person after person bashing the newer iphones and ios. If you don't like Apple go find another piece of fruit :p

Just because the UI didn't change in iOS 8, doesn't mean it didn't get massive changes under the hood. Don't just assume that since you don't "see" much of a difference with iOS 8 that it's "pretty much the same".

I love Apple and iPhone just like most of you on here, but I have to say… it's not the user's fault that the product is becoming damaged easily. I hate how some people are saying "just put it in your shirt pocket", "don't sit on it" or "you need to take better care of your things"…. listen…. if I have to lay my phone on a pillow or buy a case for it in order for it NOT TO BEND, then I'm sorry, but Apple messed up… not us. iPhones are meant to be mobile, and they're meant to be in pockets. Apple should have tested them better.

Same thing goes for the antenna thing a few years ago with the iPhone 4.

Nothing going on would lead you to the conclusion that iPhones are "becoming damaged easily." That kind of over wrought rhetoric is completely unwarranted.

The iPhone 3G back was famous for getting cracks in it even when people were not abusing their phones. Everyone's plastic began to crack sooner or later even when you were super careful with it.

Also, the original iPhone suffered the "negative black" issue on the screen.

Hah! I had forgotten about that. I don't remember too much detail about iPhones prior to the 4 because that's when I joined the platform.

It seems in each case the issues are fixed by the "S" revision. Maybe it's time to skip an upgrade and get on the "S" bandwagon. :)

Remember when the 5S was Apple's "Darkest Moment"?

Or when the retina MacBook was?

Or when the iPad Air and iPad mini retina were?

Or when the iPhone 5 was?

Or when the iPhone 4S was?

Or when iOS 7 was?

Or when iOS 6 was?

Or when OS X was?

Or when OS 9 was?

Or when the iPod was?

Yeah, you don't.

Nothing wrong with the phone so far.

If there's something buggy, there will be an update. Why get upset about that? Most of the problem is not specifically Apple caused. They are a moving target so developers must move with them. If developers don't their apps will get left behind.

Other phone manufacture's phones won't get an update. How's them Apples?

OP: You grip about things, that although you paid for the phone, the design is none of your business. You want want want, but you aren't going to get. I say this because there's no such thing as a custom iPhone. You buy the whole menu item. It's what the chef cooked up, and so if you don't like the recipe you buy something else or go some place else. It's okay to wish, but because Apple's idea of the iPhone design doesn't match yours, doesn't mean Apple is a bad company or going down hill.

"Payed $XXX for the iPhone, so Apple better step up to the plate, and fix this problem." So your $XXX is whipping money? You get to be the master? How about this? Your $XXX gets you an iPhone. STOP.

The space shuttle blew up and disintegrated. Each time it took Nasa years to determine what went wrong and provide either a technical upgrade to fix the problem, or change procedures to minimize the problem.

With the iPhone, bending problems are at a level, that publicity aside, is not cost effective to try and fix. Next year they will have a new phone. They may replace phones that are bent or scratched or have a broken screen, but replacing them is cheaper than going back to the drawing board. The goal here though is to minimize replacement scenarios.

They stopped making the iPhone 5, and went to the 5C. Expect that the iPhone 6 Plus will only be a one year run. They will keep the iPhone 6 and go to the 6S, maybe release an iPhone 6C. The 6S Plus may very well be a whole new design, but not because the 6 Plus was wrong.

I don't particularly like the wide bands, but I do like zebras, and penguins. Amateur, that is such a BS analogy. You don't have to like them. They could have released the phone in orange this year. Should that stop you from buying it? Maybe, but then you aren't buying it for a phone, you are buying it as a visual accessory.

I don't buy the iPhone for it's looks.

I have 3 - 5 reasons for buying the iPhone.

1. My current phone plan, has a built in subsidy. I use it to it's fullest. (this plan is still cheaper than current plans.)
2. Regardless of functionality, I buy the latest tech to keep up to date. I support technology, professionally, so having access is to my benefit.
3. As I buy new phones, I sell my old ones. This means that keeping up to date, costs me about $100 per year.
4. Because our family trade down phones, for as many years as the trades go on, but I still pay a difference, of about $100. It's good for two or three years.
5. Of all phones on the planet, holistically, the iPhone is the best consumer phone there is. Other phones may have better aspects, but that's it. They don't translate into a completely better phone.

In the mean time, the phones start each year a little buggy from iOS major revisions, but latter run fantastically.

For any problem I have had with the iPhone, EVERY SINGLE TIME, Apple has been accommodating, without having need of Apple Care +. There's always a first time, so I hold my breath.

I treat my phone with respect. I take care of it. I use it every day.

Yeah, you don't.

What? There was something wrong?

I have the iPad rMini. Never noticed anything wrong. Believe me I would have heard about it, if it were real.

Loads of complaints filled MR's iPad section with how the Retina iPad mini screen was bad.

I have a Retina mini and personally I think it's fine. My iPhone 6's screen does look better but that's most likely more cause it's newer.

Thanks.

None of those problems concerned anyone who's been using it in our family. It looks amazing. I find it hilarious people complain about color gamut. It's so full of crap. It's trying to turn something subjective into something concrete. Each iPad will be unique in this regard. Image retention should not happen. Haven't notice it, and I have a soft launch rMini. Got it the first week from BB.

Back to the OP... Another thing... what in the heck does old technology mean? What does this have to do with anything, as apposed to other tablets? What difference does it make? It's the most advanced iPhone, Apple has to date. No one else can make the most advanced iPhone. And if you buy the latest technology, what are you going to do with it? It's not going to run iOS or your iOS apps.

Maybe iOS is 3 times more efficient than Android. Programming ties it all together.

I have no idea what I'm talking about? You have proven with your post it is you who actually does not have a clue.

In terms of performance, the 6 is similar to the 5s, if I was talking about efficiency, I would have said, which I clearly didn't. You might think improving a cpu's efficiency is ground breaking, but if you heard of intel or amd, it is what they do very regularly, currently intel's i7 is around 22 nm, it was a lot bigger before. And if you need further evidence, normally Apple themselves talk about how much faster their cpu is, this time they only focused on the efficiency. So your clearly wrong on that point.

Reducing the power consumption of a CPU is not something trivial you can just invent in your kitchen when you're bored one night.

Intel spent millions of dollars in their latest Haswell update to improve efficiency. Do you know how much of a gain they got with their top of the line i7 line in terms of power consumption?

1.3%

Apple DOUBLED the efficiency of the CPU. That is not a trivial matter. It would be one thing if it was 10% more efficient or 15%, that was to be expected. If you look at it another way, Apple could had doubled the performance with the same power consumption or doubled the efficiency with the same performance. Apple chose battery life because the processor is more than capable of running anything in today's market.

There's no NEED to make it faster at this point, but there is a huge need to make the battery last longer when going with a larger more power hungry screen.

I wasnt talking about android when I talked about the 1gb of ram. For your information the VERY COMMON tab reloading issue has been directly attributed to memory limitation. Who said anything about android here? The problem existed before the iphone 6, iphone 6 has 1gb of ram, the problem continues, in fact the problem has gotten worse because there is more data to store because of the increased resolutions. But somehow you seem to be worshipping Apple and agree with everything they do, or are you one of these people who believe in magic and believe things like extra ram can be 'installed' through software. Please, again you failed to acknowledge my point, and again you are simply, wrong.

I went to school for engineering originally. It's obvious to me from an engineering standpoint why Apple made the choices they did. And it is clear that they are doing groundbreaking and very difficult work.

You are unhappy because you think that Apple needs to make a phone just for you and ignore the other billion customers it has.

Why don't you make your own phone? Oh wait. You can't. Besides that once apps start being written for 2GB it's going to seriously degrade the experience of users of the iPhone 5/5S. Apple has always been about backwards compatibility much more so than most manufacturers. That's why they jumped the gun on 64bit processors, so in 4-5 years your iPhone 5S will still run modern 64 bit apps. Even though there was absolutely no benefit to going 64bit this early. Keeping the ram under 1GB means that iPhone 5S in India and China in 3 years that sell for $350 off contract will have a good user experience. That's part of the reason why Android is so horrible with ram. Because developers know that flagship phones have 3GB or more of ram, they write programs for the flagships, which run like junk on anything that's entry level.

I'm sure that Apple will do 2GB with the next refresh, but if I was designing the iPhone 6, I would have given it 1GB of ram as well, and so should any rational engineer.

And lol your asking me if I have done any coding, firstly I am a mathematics student so I'm not a computer programmer, but its safe to say I will completely destroy you on this point. I made my first program using visual basic when I was 13, the age I built my first computer. I am fluent in visual basic (good language to start programming, the language is almost like english), c++, a bit of java and of course html the baby useless language. I probably know more about programming than you, I have written many procedures and functions dealing with all kind of parameters, and designed small level programs.

So your saying I dont understand? If your trying to tell me that every bit of ios8 was re written, all 15 million lines of it, then my friend I am very sorry, the argument ends here because clearly it is you who does not understand. I dont really have the time to explain but one of the reasons why it is so buggy is because how similar it is to ios7. Please, dont try to insult my intelligence again, you will end up looking the worse out of the two of us, that I can guarantee.

So you are telling me that you have never made any math or programing errors in your entire life, and that it is normal for complex software to be completely free of minor errors all the time?

Well then I guess both Apple and Microsoft need to discontinue software updates. Oh wait, except even 15 years after the release of Windows XP they are still patching major bugs.

The fact is that programing something like iOS is very prone to errors and the amount of errors we have experienced with it is far below the norm. If you disagree then I'm sure that every math and programing problem you have ever done in your life has never once had any errors, or required any revisions. In which case I will forward your resume and perfect test scores to Tim Cook personally and he will put you in charge of programing iOS 9.

And you are saying the bending issue does not exist when Apple themselves have admitted it does? Listen to yourself, there are numerous examples of the bending issue, even users on this very forum, your saying its all fake? Wake up and smell the you know what.

And I dont know if you will understand this or not. Forget what materials the phone is made of, the 6 plus does bend as proven by users on this forum and Apple themselves. Whilst the competitor's phones do not, again forget what materials, by competitor you can even include iphone 6 and 5s.

I personally dont think the unbox therapy video is fake like people on these forums are suggesting, however EVEN if it is, you still DONT explain Apple admitting this, and the many many many other reports of the bending, which if you havent noticed seems to be going up everyday.

Apple did not admit that there is a "bending issue". They said that out of 10 million phones shipped, only 9 were bent by accident. Which debunks the idea that this is a realistic problem that affects any reasonable amount of people. The bending is not an "issue", because the definition of the word issue requires something have significance, which this does not.

There was an antenna issue with the 4 (I had a problem with it myself and know a few people that did), there was a scratching issue with the 5 (I had the problem with it myself and know many people that did), there is no bending issue with the 6 plus, because you can't point to more than a very small number of people who have had it happen by accident.

And the screen, is also old technology. Competitor devices are already way in excess of 1080p - are you living in 2012 or something?. I dont know if you know but Apple originally were going to put a 1242x2208 resolution, but they decided to cut costs and go for 1080p which means it is being downsampled. Of course you dont want to hear that because you are blind, not in the literal sense.

http://www.paintcodeapp.com/news/iphone-6-screens-demystified

Competitors with higher resolution displays do not have the same saturation, brightness, black levels, viewing angle, color accuracy etc. It is trivial to make a display of any reasonable resolution. It is not trivial to make a display that is both of high resolution and has all of the other important characteristics.

For example if you take all of the 4k display offerings, each has huge downsides because nobody has figured out how to make a high quality 4k monitor. Likewise nobody has figured out how to make a high quality 1080p display for a phone, until Apple did.

The 1080p isn't to save costs by the way, it's to increase brightness, and has the added benefit of being standardized.

I've had every iPhone except for 1 and 5 (so 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5S and 6+)

This is by far the best iPhone ever made. I have no issues with bending, popping, screen color, scratches, battery, lagginess, wifi, stuttering... nothing. It's totally smooth and a pleasure to use.

And I have been known to make plenty of returns for small defects. This one is perfect.

Lol you are too funny. I make one statement and then you make hundreds of assumptions. I said iOS 7 and iOS8 are similar, you said they are completely different, and then I said no, you dont redesign every single line of code ground up, programmers dont work that way otherwise they would spend their lives programming.

Of course I am obviously right, but then you said have I never made a program without mistakes. This was not a relevant question because I addressed the original issue, and had proven you wrong. Computers get updated almost every week with new iterations of hardware, Apple updates it's iphone hardware once a year, on top of that, the cpu in the 6 is pretty much the same as 5s in terms of architecture which they would have been used to.

And no lol, dont forward my resume to Apple, I dont want to be a programmer. Just because someone is good at something it does not mean they have to pursuit that. I enjoy the subject I am doing and would like to maybe possibly continue into research. Fermat was a mathematician who made several important theorems, but his work was disregarded at the time, people said your algebra is nice but its useless. Today all banks, computers (even Apple) use Fermat's mathematical theorems for security and other applications. Maybe I could make a small contribution to some mathematical research one day, but maybe in hundreds of years time, it could change the world, who knows.

The antenna problem wasnt a big problem because Apple rectified it. I dont know how you can dismiss the bending as a non issue, when people in this very forum have noted the issue. And this forum is mainly full of Apple and iPhone fans like us. Now I dont mind the bending issue too much because I know Apple will fix it pretty soon, its only near the volume buttons that need a bit of reinforcement, the rest of the phone is pretty dam solid. But it still looks poorly on Apple because competitor devices, regardless of material, do not have this issue. And the worldwide media coverage, if this bend issue did not exist then the thousands of well qualified reporters and journalists would not have brought the issue up.

And while as an iPhone fan I have been saying iphone has the best screen in the market, for video and picture editors it probably does have the best screen no doubt. But recently I had to concede because my friends Samsung devices, the screens are just so vivid. And I know Samsung employ tricks to make the contrast look better and make images pop out, but the average consumer outside of these forums say the samsung screens look much better than iphones. If you watch most reviewers on youtube comparing samsung to iphone, they say the same thing.
