so in answer to the question in this post, the answer is no, tomorrow is not the day.

I think if the update is to come soon at all, it will be part of the late February event that has been mentioned. If it doesn't come at that event, I'm betting it'll be late March at the earliest. The fact is, there are NO reliable rumors about MBP updates. The whole thing is predicated on the fact that its been "too long" since an update according to the "update cycle."

But look at the Mac Pros prior to the recent upgrade. I like Apple products but they clearly have no problem with selling very outdated equipment at very outrageous prices. They are one of the most innovative companies around, but they are also the only provider of Macs, so they have no compunction with calling what would be average-at-best specs for a PC "top of the line." Apple is so obsessed with iPhones and iPods lately, they don't seem to really care that PC makers are blowing them out of the water in terms of value for your dollar when it comes to laptops (which, by the way, is Apple's main computer market).

If you have a Mac or PC now - continue to wait.
If you need a laptop now - I'd consider a PC.
If you need a Mac now - I'm not sure what to tell you.

Water Torture

Having waited since the middle of '07, this is absolutely driving me insane :)

Aperture 2 is great and all, but what's a powerful program like that without a powerful machine to run it on - i.e. an updated Macbook Pro?!

Why are you doing this Apple why why why?! I will explode with joy if you decide to update in the middle of today or something....

Yeah, I predict Apple will release a 17" MBP with R/W Blue Ray, dual hdds, 1920x1200 LED panel and 512MB Dual 8700M GT, for a mere $4799 (sorry, no other configurations available, no 15" model for the foreseeable future). Bet that will make a lot of folks happy! :D

What do I have to do for that system?!?!?!

btw its 2am here in Aus on wednesday morning...this is becoming a weekly thing for me...

Who really knows what Apple will release these days, but they snuck Aperture 2 like a donut rolling onto your lap when your trying to stay away from sweets. Cheers!

I don't know if this means anything, but when I went to the configuration page for the mbp I saw an Update Details button on the page. It disappears after a split second but I got a screen shot of it.

Aw come on, get real, Aperture would run on the first Core Duo MBP and even the last Powerbook G4. The MBP is not the only Mac that can run Apple's pro software, you haven't forgotten the Mac Pro have you and and the iMac 2.8Ghz Extreme is no slouch either when it comes to the pro apps.

Personally I would prefer to see more software updates rather than hardware. What good is updated hardware if the software is outdated and having issues. For example 10.5.2 certainly made a Leopard the best ever.

That's there to manually update the price / details of any configuration you choose. It's there for all mac selections in the apple store. Try turning off javascript and you'll see that it doesn't disappear because the page can't automatically adjust things if you customize your configuration.

Ok the Update button is for browsers with javascript turned off. With JS on it auto updates any config changes. With JS off it doesn't, requiring the update button.

Edit: puppithead beat me to it.
