so you're comparing the latest model with one from many years ago? lol

what about the upgrade from 3g to 3gs?

man apple just made so many improvements between that model!!!

I bet you're going to say apple is lowering the price of the iPad when the mini comes out with less specs and a smaller screen. They are just making cheaper devices....not lowering the prices.

11inch screen on a base macbook air. What about a Mac mini, starts at $499, then up it to $599 and remove the optical drive.

3G -> 3GS = 2X faster, Video Recording, better camera, Compass, faster 3G networking. Yea, 3GS is better than 3G

Yes, they are lowering the price of iPad with the mini. What companies give you more for less? That's the point of less. You pay less, you get less. But the point is that people who want an iPad will be able to get one for less.
The entry level price of iPad is about to hit $199 and that will be good. When iPad was introduced, $499 was the entry level price. So yea, prices are lowering.

Do you honestly expect to get the latest iPad (4th gen, 9.7 inch) next year while paying less money to own it? That's ridiculous.

I hear you on that.
If you tell anyone Im buying a phone full price for $650 they will think you're nuts. They dont get how subsidies and contracts work, they automaticly assume every phone costs $200 and every time they lose it or break it they can get another one for $200. And when they tell you your upgrade is not available for another year they flip out and threaten to leave like its the carriers fault:D Its a different mentallity here in the US.
And like you said the prepaid market is not that great cause all they do is resell the main carriers network and its hard to get any support from prepaid carriers, refil your minutes or if you end up going over your data they can shut off your account and then you lost your phone number that you had for years. Kinda crappy when you get into prepaid.

Mine too:D
Yeah awhile back when we updated to iPhone 4 I offered up our 3gs to my mother-in-law, just kinda doing her a favor bc she had been wanting an iPhone forever. I told her i would sell to her for $125 and she like got mad saying why would i pay you more than what AT&T costs for a new one.

Keep in mind, she wasn't ready for an upgrade. After explaining it to her she still didn't understand. Went to the AT&T store several times threaten to leave them etc. etc. She would always talk bad about AT&T and how she was going to leave them when contract ended. Instead, she got an iPhone 4 a year or so later for $49 on contract lol.

So i sold the 3gs on ebay for $275 instead which worked better for me anyways.

But she views the iPHone 4 as only costing $49, not a $500-$550 phone.

$199, you can't be serious!

Why are you even arguing....you want more, you pay more. Wonder why Verizon is charging more now :D

You can't only have 1 model like a full size Chevy truck at a certain price. Then one year come out with a small version that is obviously cheaper and say that Chevrolet is lowering their prices!

LMAO:D
After all these years with wireless contracts and subsidies some people still dont get it or they dont want to get it.
She thought you were trying to screw her:D
You should have showed her how much they sell without contract on ebay or CL.

Guys, you're free to go. Get Sprint. This is America. There is no lock on a single carrier on this competition. Pretty easy. You are not happy. Don't buy, move on and let them fix it right once they realize. Don't just go along with them.

Another person that completely ignores the facts and just spouts off like changing carriers has no repercussions for anyone.

Yeah and what she had done was got some cheap random flip phone bc she didn't want to pay the money to get an iPhone and locked herself into a contract. return period came and went and still had urge for an iPhone. Finally talked herself into getting an iPhone, but it was too late. So I was being a nice guy by offering her the 3GS for really cheap...but she just didn't understand.

She was like all furious about it too haha. Didn't believe me when I told her how much they sell for on ebay and how much they are new. BC she only saw $49 and assumes that is the real price.

Sure it only costs $49.
Let me go buy 10 of them for that price:D

I pay 15 euro/month: 2GB Data, 1000 texts and 15 euro to call.
I love the way that we don't have contracts in Belgium :D Free to change, free to buy, do whatever you like lol :p

Have not read the whole thread so apologies if its been discussed... But as an individual the best deal for you will be pagepluscellular.

$55 per month for unlimited talk, text and 2 gb of data. All on verizon network. Plus, that is $55 ,TOTAL no taxes extra.versus $100 PLUS taxes.

A single person is not treated very well by verizons new share everything plans.

You just don't know the fact inside these carriers. How they operate and come up with costs and cost of terminate the calls from each one to another each one. I graduated Telecommunication Engineer and I took the class Telecommunication Industry and know how things internally work. This is why you are freely switch carriers with the same mobile phone numbers, which wasn't allowed back in the old days.

Worked in the industry for many years for a local billing agent, a buddy of mine has a PHD in telecom, even more work in the telecom corridor here in Dallas/Richardson (some for Samsung Telecom), and several own wireless retail stores, so you might want to hold off on your assumptions. And anybody knows about FMNP, that has nothing to do with my reply to your OP.

Another assumption you need to stop making is that every user is free to change to any carrier they like. For some people there may be only a single carrier that gets a reliable signal to their home. For others they may be tied to their employers carrier of choice. Others may travel to rural areas where certain carriers don't provide reliable signal. Nobody needs to work in the industry or have a degree as a telecommunications engineer to be observant to the limitations people may have that prevent them from easily switching. So to just spout off on some forum that everyone should stop complaining and just move to Sprint is completely ignorant. Seems that fancy degree of yours failed to provide you some common sense.

I just got off skype with my relitive in germany guess what There plans are so much better
he has vodafone
unlimited text 4gb data vodafone free callin in network its 20 euro so about 45$ bucks.

I'm not shure how many minuits he has but he told me he never uses them. He uses skype on his phone to call people.

He said he is with a android, but he said that iphones dont have facetimeblocked nor tethering.

he also said that he tethers all the time.

I just don't understand why north america has messed up phone plans.

Am I the only one who would love to switch to a Google Voice - Skype setup with an iPod Touch??? For $30/year to have a phone I could SMS/email/call with when on WiFi seems a lot better than the $270 I spend for a 4 person family plan (iPhones).

Yeah yeah... I know, but 99% of my time I have free WiFi. Home, Work, College, Church, Starbucks... Maybe I'd get a prepaid phone for when I get stuck in the middle of the CA desert on my way home?

But I'm getting tired paying $270 for 6GB even if I get unlimited minutes. Really tired....

Yeah yeah... the ability to text family, send them MMS of where I am, have something to do while waiting in line, able to take a call anywhere.... but $270 a month?! It's getting really old.

I pay $70 mo for my 100mbps down 6mbps up ISP with a 500GB cap.

@ Major.Robto - yeah, when my then girlfriend (now wife in USA) was living in Peru, $30 was about 3,000 minutes with free incoming calls/texts. We're letting cellular companies r*pe us in the *ss here.

I like the idea of Page Plus but last I checked the iPhone was blocked from being activated on their network, by Verizon :(

hi, does this include LTE?

Didn't I hear the outcrying chorus of "why isn't the iPhone on Verizon" several years ago? :D

I'm currently moving from AT&T to prepaid on my unlocked iPhones. It's cheaper and still uses the AT&T network.

I haven't seen any that offer LTE. I haven't looked at all of them, but Smart Talk and Page Plus don't offer LTE, even though they run across various networks that support LTE in areas.

But I guess for folks really looking to save money, not having LTE isn't that big of a deal.

Being the techie geek I am, my desire for LTE will outpace my desire to save money at this point. :( Perhaps one day that will change.

if you guys dont like verizons pricing, you are more then welcome to stop giving them your money and take your business elsewhere. and if verizon or att is your only alternatives? tough ****. maybe instead of bitching about thier pricing you should be bitching at tmobile and sprint for not having adequate coverage in your area. it takes lots of $$$ to provide the kind of coverage these 2 telcos provide which results in higher prices. like i always say, you get what you pay for.

i pay $69 a month currently with sprint for 450 mins, free mobile to mobile, unlimited text and data and i will be more then glad to pay verizon an extra $30 a month if it means i can get off this so called '3g' network that sprint uses and get something fast and reliable

Whats preventing you from moving over to Verizon now? On contract?
