Ok thx, it looks like its some kind of hidden preorder site not available on the standard Verizon site. Good to know.

That's where it sent me when I selected an iPad and an iPhone for devices. I'm guessing that because the iPad is a month-to-month deal they can't really force you to go onto their new share everything 2 year plan. I got right up to the point where I just had to enter CC info and could have got the $70 250 minute and 2GB data plan. I think someone needs to spread the word about this hidden secret.

we were paying $68/month for digital cable and internet for like 2 years and they hit us with a price increase that was going to double the price
Did they hit you with a price increase, or did some special package you had end, and they hit you with the NORMAL price?

I know every area is different, but it seems pretty crazy to get digital cable AND internet for $68/month nowadays. Digital cable alone here STARTS at $70/month, unless you get one of their bundles (which expire at some point in the future, charging you the regular price).

i had a special deal with them. Normal price is what i am at now. They refused to put me on a new promotion so it was more than the regular prices. I dropped for awhile then went back and now back at normal prices.

When I dropped cable, 10mbps internet was only $29.99/month.....so basically was paying $30 for internet and $30 for digital cable.

It's called progress.

just like their $1,000 lcd monitor??

Well, first off, I said they've been dropping prices. Not that they're cheap. And second, you're willing to bet your argument on one edge case item that most normal people don't buy? Look at their main sources of income...iPhone, iPad, and Mac. They have been dropping prices on those over the years (or at least getting carriers to begin offering them for free and $99 along with the normal $199,$299).

So you're on an old plan but you're leaving because you don't like the new plans? I bet somebody actually read your email then :D'd and showed it to the whole office.

Yeah, I'm currently on a grandfathered unlimited data plan and I don't like their new share everything plans, since it's a rip off. And it's not even the unlimited data that's the issue, it's that they want $110 for 4GB of data.

The problem here is that I'm eligible for an upgrade discount, yet if I upgrade to the new iPhone I will lose my old plan. That's fine. I don't actually need unlimited data. The problem is that in order to maintain my current usage which is approx 3gb per month of data, I have to pay $110 per month.

The other option is to just buy the phone outright and somehow not use 4g.

Eff that. Why would I do that when I can switch to a competitor?

Idk why that would cause them to "show it around their office". What exactly is ridiculous about how crappy their plans are for individuals?

And FWIW I did send an email.

When you upgrade, you do not have to switch to the new plans if you don't want to. Your upgraded line will be put on a 2GB for $30 plan. Nothing else will change. For that 3rd GB of data, it's only a $10 per GB overage charge. I don't know what plan you're on now, so it may or may not be cheaper than the $110 you quoted.

And I was just kidding about your email. ;)

It's ridiculous that these companies charge what they do for cell phone service. It's a total ripoff but as long as people keep paying, they'll keep doing it.

Their are other options out there people. Straight Talk, Simple Mobile, etc. I've got an iPhone 4S on T-Mobile and only pay $30 a month for their prepaid service. That's right, basically 3 months for the price of one on one of the big 3 carriers.

If enough people were to take advantage of these other options, the big 3 would HAVE to lower their monthly fees. But I don't think it's going to happen. People will just continue to bend over and take it.

You can add 4G to an unsubsidized phone and keep unlimited / not change anything on the plan. I did this tonight in their store so I could sell my 4S.

But you still pay the full price of the rate and Lose several hundred dollars in lost subsidy. Screwed either way.

Yes you definitely lose out on the subsidy that you're stuck paying for in the plan anyways. I was just pointing out that you don't have to limit yourself to a 3G device if you're going that route.

I was just looking at what I use every month, which is about 4GB. The quoted price is $40 for the device, and $70 for the 4GB plan.

I think it's a rip off. I've also been a Verizon customer for 8 years, not that, that is necessarily a factor, it's just that I've had a pretty good experience up until this point.

Also, as others have said and others have pointed out, if I wanted a new 4G iPhone I would have to spend $$$$$$ to the max. Simply put, it's just cheaper to switch to Sprint and get the phone I want. And another factor is just general principle.

And I was just kidding about your email. ;)
Ah ok. It's hard to tell sometimes. I did email them, they emailed me back. I'm expecting a phone call soon.

I've heard the opposite. I've been told, actually, that if I want to go from 3G to 4G that I have to drop my unlimited plan.

I'm not disputing what you're saying per say, it's just that I've heard the opposite.

For individual on Verizon:

Share plans (talk/txt, 2gb data) MINIMUM = $100/mo
Individual plans (450 min, 2gb data) MINIMUM = $90/mo

That is truly disgusting :(

Blame apple. They're the ones that forced this to happen with their ridiculously high subsidies. Verizon is not making money with the iphone on the current plans. Sprint has screwed themselves over by taking the iphone as they can't charge the amounts that verizon can. T mobile is actually smart to not carry it as they can charge less than those that do.

I know a lot of people here don't want to hear this but its the truth. Apple is only selling the iphone as well as it does in the US because the carriers subsidize the crap out of it. That will eventually end and I believe it will be sooner than you think. The 4s is about equal in specs to the AT&T galaxy s2. The s3 is a step above the 4s.

The galaxy sii skyrocket is $449.99 without a contract. The iPhone 4s is 649.99. Even the SIII is only 549.99 without a contract.

Does anyone remember the prices for Helio phones back in the day?

It was pretty close to this. Kind of interesting considering the phones they had back then.

There's no free lunch. I would prefer to see UNsubsidized phones so we can pay a fair price for usage. I don't have to upgrade every 2 years. It's wasteful.

I have no clue why you guys in the usa have such bad phone plans.

Mine is not the best but its affordable
I'm with telus and my plan is
65bucks/mth
200 Local mins ( never need LD mins)
Unlimited texting
6 GB of data.
Caller ID
3 Voicemails
10 Call free numbers to call\text (free across canada)

and im on a **** slider phone. and im using a sim and plan on buying a used iphone when the new on comes out

Also I rarely have a service outage. and if i do its because of the building.

I'd be okay with that, but it doesn't fit the carriers need to keep their credit rating up to raise capital to build out infrastructure. This is why Sprint abandoned that plan back in the '90s.

Straight Talk, Simple Mobile, etc are simply reselling the networks of the big four.

If they start to take a bite out of the big fours post-paid subscribers, I bet you the big four will start charging Straight Talk, etc higher fees before they lower their fees.

Do you seriously see them lowering their rates to compete with companies reselling their own networks?

Also, as LTE becomes more ubiquitous on the big four, the lack of LTE on Straight Talk, etc is going to make them seem even more second rate.

Verizon just reported $1.83B in PROFIT in Q2 ALONE. BS
Is that Verizon (the whole company) or just Verizon Wireless?
