just received my iPhone 11 Pro and noticed that he has been really hot when setting it up. I have set it up with a fresh install of iOS 13.1 so to start 100% clean but got super hot when setting it up: did you noticed the same?

Since then I feel it can be a bit warm when running some app but indeed not as hot as for the first setting but wanted to know if you are experiencing it.

Watch this battery test on youtube. I know nobody would ever use their phone in the way depicted on the video but it shows the 11 getting very hot during the test.

I’ve been having the same issue. I’m on 13.1 right now and earlier I was just editing a few photos and my 11 Pro was getting quite warm and I don’t know why. It wasn’t like I was playing an intensive battery draining game. It was something simple. I am hoping it’s software related. Same thing happened when I was on 13.0 preparing update for 13.1. It was so hot to where I had to hold it against my vent in my car running the a/c to cool it down. It was bad and I can’t imagine what would’ve happened if I didn’t.

Battery life isn’t as great as I expected either.

I'm interested in this as well. I'm looking to pick up an iPhone 11 for a relative and I've also been seeing reports on forums & YouTube that the phone gets very hot even doing basic tasks such as watching movies or playing music. As a result the battery drains very quickly.

Can anyone else provide some feedback regarding this issue or if iOS 13.1 has fixed this.

More processing means more heat. Manage your settings to increase battery life, decrease processing, and decrease heat. Settings like background app refresh, notifications, and location services.

I had this briefly when I first got my 11 Pro, it would heat up really hot when watching YouTube videos. It’s stopped (touch wood) doing it now, could’ve been software-related?

I have done some extra tests yesterday evening and today + Did the same against my wife's iPhone XS Max:

- Watching a YouTube Video
- Using Maps
- Using CityMapper
- Taking a couple of pictures with different modes (Ultrawide, Portrait, etc.)
- Editing a couple of pictures

For all of those activities I have noticed that the iPhone XS Max didn't get heat at all while my iPhone Pro were getting hot very quick and I didn't even try any game.

I don't think that is normal as I never experienced a phone coming hot as quickly and with this frequency.

I had the same issue, that the 11 Pro was getting hot for no obvious reason for two days but it never happened since even when playing intensive games. Probably something to do with indexing iCloud data.

Mine is getting hot whenever I am using an App so not when doing nothing as I checked what app could run in the background and all was fine.

Also I have checked with a colleague who has an iPhone 11 an his phone doesn't get warm with the same apps (I have done the same testing as above). I get the A13 is doing more processing than the A12 but my colleague has an A13 too.

BTW I had a look at all comments and there are a lot of people complaining about iPhone 11 getting hot/very hot and some saying theirs are perfectly fine without any heat.

In iFixIt's tear down of the iphone 11 pro max, they said that there is some newer/thicker thermal compound on back area of the phone to help the heat dissipate better. I think the back of the phone is getting warmer because it is designed that way to move the heat out.

Just a quick update alongside my testing. It looks like the heat decreased a lot. I have restart the phone, do again a bunch of testing with Camera, Editing, Google Maps, etc. and the phone is not anymore coming as warm as before.

In addition and again I have took a couple of Pictures and edited them with both iPhone XS Max and iPhone 11 Pro, tried to do those action at the same time to both phones and both were slightly warm (not heating) which is I suppose usual when using those apps.

From my testing, on iPhone 11 Pro what the phone getting a bit more warmer is the portrait mode.

Agree. I was doing all that to kill my phone so I could test the charging rate for 18W vs 30W and it didn't even feel warm. This is how much it charged from 0 in a half hour:

18W in box - 50%
30W Power Bank - 54%
30W Wall Charger - 57%

No issues for me.

I believe this maybe a question of feeling, etc.

The phone is getting sometimes warm (not hot) because of apps that are doing computation. But this feeling with a brand new phone is initially concerning and I was trying to make sure I haven't any issue.

But I believe that as long as the phone is not heating then there is not concern at all. Also by using a case, the warm feeling is gone.

No heat issues here. I played OceanHorn 2 for 3 hours straight! That is a very demanding game, I was honestly surprised my 11 Pro Max was barely warm if that.

Mine has done it as well. Noticed it getting hot today while charging and editing some photos.

A joke:
Maybe it's preparing to cook.

does it affect your battery life? I.e. draining faster
Try updating to 13.1.1. Seems to have fixed this issue for me.

your phone were getting hot before? With what king of usage?
It's normal for your phone to get hot when you first set it up and load all the apps. Had the same with X, XS, 11 Pro.

some people seem to have the issue of the first setup

If true, this actually means cooler CPU temps due to dissipation. Which is good.
