I just don’t understand why making it so difficult or unappealing to buy it in the App Store
Apple's rules around the App Store make it impossible to have the full app in the App Store, so making it unappealing to developers who, if they use the App Store, have to supply a cut down version with the option to get the full functionality via an additional direct download. I also don't really get the assertion that App Store apps are safer - rather their functionality is resticted.

Well, for one, they are sandboxed. But I’m not getting into that App Store vs external downloads debate. I just prefer sandboxed apps.

But in the context of iStat Menus, the App Store version still need an extra download of the helper tool, which is outside of AppStore’s vetting and then macOS’s sandboxing, I think. The biggest benefits for the AppStore version is only on family sharing vs the licensing model.

Well, I just installed the trial that's on their website. I've managed to run it without the helper, and it still monitors temperatures, CPU/GPU activity, mandates memory pressure. I guess the helper is needed to modify the fan's behaviour, but so far, I'm not interested in that. So I think I will be finally purchasing the Mac App Store version.

By the way, do you know if there's a way to put a white/black background to the graphs/bars? Right now it is transparent and the wallpaper color sometimes matches the bar's color, making it difficult to glance. The open source app Stats does have that feature. And I guess iStat Menus does as well, it's just that I don't know where to find it.

The "Show background" setting - you need Yes. As an example, here are my settings for Network History in the menubar:

For me, having the minimal processor load is important, that’s why I want to buy iStat Menus on the Mac App Store, but that version is 4 months old, outdated compared to the web version.
It's as outdated as the web download app.

For me, the biggest change is the demand for RAM, 2GB is bizarre for such a program, Docker takes not much more.

The latest version is v7.02 (2247). I've found that the "Check for Updates" doesn't update if you're already on "v7.02" as it looks for the Version Number, not the Build Number. You can get the latest version here:

I honestly don't have any bugs with it at all. But with everything, YMMV.

Please try VPN via IPSec via macOS settings.

iStat Menus doesn't recognize it, doesn't show it and no data/stats or switch of connection possible. With v6 everything was working fine.

And with Wireguard it is also kind of broken. Cannot enable/disable it, even the button is there.

So many small annoying bugs (haven't seen them on v6).

@Bjango are you aware of all those bugs and working on a solution? When can we expect an update?

Have you filed bugs with Bjango? I'd assume that'd be the best way to reach them about this as opposed to hoping they check the MacRumors Forums.

I've just gone from a 2018 MBP to an M4 mini, and have noticed the Power menu icon is just blank, instead of showing the lightning bolt (between the volume and clock menus in the screenshot), anyone else had this issue?

This is on version 7.1 (2250)

Given that the mini doesn't have a battery, I'm not sure what would show there.

I've just got it showing apps using significant energy, but I'd assume Bluetooth devices I've connected will also show their battery status there.
I'd love to just combine it with the Sensors menu to be honest, but not all sections can be combined.

My point is, it's supposed to show a lightning icon in lieu of the battery/charging status, but it doesn't seem to do so.
