Hi,

I noticed that Global Menu Bar spacing: "Compact" setting is not working when I plugged in an External Display (with slightly higher resolution. Specifically:
  • With Built-in Display only, The Menu Bar spacing: Compact is working as designed
  • With an External Display plugged in, Menu Bar spacing: Compact is NOT working on the Built-in Display
Hope the screen shot below make sense.
MacBookPro 14" (2021), macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, iStat Menus 7.02

Setting 'First Day of Week' works neither using either Sunday, nor Automatic with my System set to Sunday. Tips?

Edit/Solved: Changed Display, under Calendar Settins, to 'Month' instead of 'Next 2 Weeks', and Sunday is now the first day of the week.
Yeah, the next 7 days and next 14 days calendars always have today as the leftmost item.

With version 7.01 they had solved the battery status displayed for AirPods (all versions), now with 7.02 it broke again. It's horrible to pay for a new version and have things not work
These things can be pretty complex, especially after big rewrites. iStat Menus 7 was a huge undertaking and a lot of the app was completely rewritten to make things more modern and efficient. Please keep letting us know and sending logs when things aren’t working. We will fix any issues.

Logs can be sent by choosing the Diagnostics › Send Log Files menu item from within iStat Menus. Please add a short note about the issue. Doing this helps us improve iStat Menus for everyone. Thanks!

I still can't get it to reliably see my 3rd party mice and keyboards. Even Logitech MX doesn't show up, not some no name brand. I think iStat Menus v6 had no such problems at all.
Please see above! We’ll do what we can.

That’s the intended behaviour for now. We’ll improve things as we can, but there are some situations where the compact setting doesn’t give the desired results, so we’ve intentionally disabled it. Using an external display is one of those situations. If we can get it to reliably work with external displays, we will. Thanks!

The network history graph scale is not like it used to be. Now, when traffic is low the scale adjusts to fill up the graph completely, when it used to just be the baseline. Visually this is not really helpful. I like it the way it was, showing only the baseline to signify low or no traffic. It also adjusts very quickly. It would be nice to have a setting to turn off auto adjusting and/or set the maximum bandwidth expected. This would allow the graph to always represent an accurate portrayal of bandwidth speed. The way it is now, by a glance I have no idea if maxed out bars means 10kb or 100mb.

I did a clean Sequoia install on Monday - cannot get iStat 7 to install (it was working prior to the clean install, although it "forgot" all of 6's settings). Now 6 works fine, 7 goes through the installation dialogue, but never shows any icons in the bar (despite them being selected). If I close and re-open the 7 app, it goes right into the installation dialogue again. Multiple restarts, AppCleaner wipes, etc. have not been able to solve the issue. Currently running 6, but not happy, especially since I'd paid for 7 and was quite happy with it until now.

The network graphs also auto-scaled in iStat Menus 6, but it’s possible the rules in iStat Menus 7 aren’t working as well. I’ll open an issue here to check that out. Thanks for mentioning it.

We definitely want to get iStat Menus 7 running for you.

It’s possible this is the problem (the page also has a fix): https://bjango.com/help/istatmenus7/permissions/

If that doesn’t work for you, please get in contact so we can get things working!

Permissions fix did the trick! Thank you - much appreciated.

Using Apple's usb-c Ethernet adapter. The program says the link speed is 0. The network settings show 1000 baseT

Hi,

I noticed that iStat Menus 7.02 WiFi Network is reporting wrongly on my MacBookPro 14" 2021 with macOS Sonoma 14.6.1. Specifically:
  • Upload is reported as Download
  • Download is reported as Upload
However, if I am connected to Ethernet (over USB 3)
  • Upload & Download is displayed correctly

Anyone with the same problem. Thanks

Update: I just downloaded and installed the silently released v7.0.2.5 and it finally fixed my Menubar inactivity problems. Wohoo!
(Thanks for the hard work!)

Still some bug remaining with Bluetooth batteries status and now with macOS 15.1 the displayed fan speeds/cpu speeds get stuck on different values. Already reported to Bjango. :)

@Bjango hi there, I have been using v6 until now and thought with my new m4 max I would assume better support would be on v7 going forwards. I guess you know that the temperatures does not work at the moment with the m4 max.

Question:

1) Is it possible to add Wattage usage in the menu bar (under power?). I am currently using Coconutbattery to display this which I thought would be a good/nice addition to the 'power' section. It would be great to also have the historical graph with the power usage over time.

2) will historical graph of core usage come back?

3) can gpu processor and memory graph show up when hovering on the respective area rather than a dropdown menu

4) battery historical graph of 30 days? (that is only 7 now?)

I hope you have some time to answer them, it's a very nice app but I am not sure if I would actually prefer to go back on v6 due to the historical graphs (that show a bit better the trends of my usage over l longer time).

Thanks!

In the Mac App Store the last version is apparently 7.0.2, and I’m waiting for a new update to purchase it and install it on my new Mac. Any news about an updated version coming to the App Store @Bjango ?

If I have a family V6 licence can I upgrade to a V7 and still use/go back to my V6 on older devices or does the V6 licence become invalid once I upgrade it?

You "own" both and don't lose anything. There is only some potential software conflict if you run both 6 and 7 at the same time on one machine.

What I would really like is the v6 interface/functionality with the data collection internals from v7.

edit 2: Please disregard the original post as it seems they have fixed the iStat Menus Helper download for version 6.

It looks like they took down the iStat Menus Helper for version 6 of the software meaning people who purchased the previous version can't install it. Shame on them for doing this.

Thankfully I never delete the installers I download so I had a copy saved on a different computer and was able to install that on my M4 Mac mini.

May have to upload the installer I have to the Internet Archive just so people can reinstall the version 6 they purchased.

edit: Version 6 does work on the M4 but is missing a lot of the temp sensor data. I don't expect them to keep supporting it and will move to version 7 at some point once the bugs are worked out.

They still have a direct download link for 6.73.1 (build 1240) here in the version history page:

Or do you mean the helper installation that happens after launching the app? I never quite understood what exactly that is doing, does it check bjango's server and need to download from there?

The version I got is the Mac App Store version, it needs the iStat Menus Helper companion download to work correctly for some features as a way to circumvent Apple's app sandboxing. The support page is still up but the download link results in a 404.

edit: They may have fixed it! Seems to be working now. I guess removing the file was a simple mistake. But it was resulting in a 404 earlier.

I see, never used the AppStore version; but in the normal web version, the helper installation kind of happens automatically, but I can tell it needs to check the internet, probably just doing the downloading auto that's it. For archive purpose I am downloading that installer now as well, in case in very distant future I may need that even for the web version.

The App Store version was a way to get around the single / family license of the direct download version and install it on my different Macs, since you can install a purchased app unlimited times as long as the target Mac is signed in to your App Store account. I've installed version 6 on probably a half-dozen different Macs, it's one of my first day installs and a really slick tool all around.

I was sad when the notched MacBook Pros came out because I was making good use of that menu bar space up there!

Honestly, I'd think it might be just fine to run both versions at the same time? Both apps really just pull information from sensors and stuff, they're not executing things. I bet they run fine side by side.

So does the temperature sensor just not work with version 6 on M4 chips? On my iMac I see "Apple SSD" and that's the only thing and even it does not show in my menu bar for some reason
