I don't find it at all better than the prior version. Installed... played around... reverted within 45 minutes. Yuck! Where do YOU find improvements?
I broke apart the "Combined" menu that, for me, I had configured to always show the Network stats, connected disks, and CPU/GPU Cores to show those same items but only now selecting each item is showing the detailed info for said item. This may have been possible before but not in the way I had it setup. Used to be I'd just click on the App Icon which showed those items, and then the drop down would show everything. Having things broken up and then also set to show more info seems "easier" for me to check things at a glance as opposed to looking at a long list of stuff.

Maybe it's a placebo effect. I don't know. The theming is great, too, and I'm finding it much more responsive, too. Not to mention MUCH more customizable. YMMV

What did I miss? I don't see weather as having a subscription.

It says somewhere that the price includes 6 or 12 months of weather. Which means it's not free afterwards.

But the more important question is what is weather doing in my system monitoring software?

Great product but you think that they would support the Safari browser for downloading their software off their site that is just weird chrome sucks but now everybody uses chrome because of all the bloatware that's it

While the interface is nice I’m pretty sure my Apple Silicon MacBook Pro can handle its CPU, GPU, memory, fan speeds, etc. just fine without me obsessing over it through third party software.

If i didn't have iStat Menus i wouldn't have noticed that the fans on my new M3 mbpro basically never turned on until i used it on my balcony in 30+ C heat :)

Edit: and also that said mbpro uses 2.5 to 3.9 W while i'm posting on this forum...

FWIW, the weather portion sub carried over from v6. I’m not going to have to worry about it for a while 😆

It’s also replaced the Carrot menu bar app for me. I find it runs well and never spikes memory or CPU.

I've been using iStat for years and have also used the weather add-on for years. I think the $6 bucks or so that I pay FOR A YEAR to have the 15 minute update data is well worth it for me (less frequent is even cheaper). The amount of weather data that they pack into a very concise interface that is easily accessible for a quick check without having to open anything else is great. They provide data in a very accessible manner that other apps make you go through several pages to get to or don't have at all. Sure, could I get this data elsewhere for free, yeah, but not in the fantastic way that it is presented here. The time it saves me alone is more than worth the small cost.

This is the way software should be. You buy it, it's yours. Sometimes a new major version like this comes out which brings major changes, so you buy an upgrade. But you can stay on the old version if you want.

THIS IS THE WAY. I wish we could go back to this for all software.

And what happens when a new MacOS is released, and the old version of the app is incompatible? People demand the devs to fix it, refund, or give a free upgrade to the latest version, because they expect the version they paid for to work indefinitely into the future even when the OS architecture changes.

People always talk about the “good old days” but forget that back then your OS got upgraded once every 4 years. Now we have yearly OS upgrades which almost always cause issues.

If you’re looking for someone to blame, blame Apple for these unnecessary yearly update cycles which break more things than they fix.

Love the new design, that's Marc's forte, and the generous pricing/upgrades.

I only use it for weather, to match Bjango's iOS app Snowflake. iStat Menu 7 weather is prettier than previous versions. My only issue is the new presentation, or usability, of the weather data isn't as simple to glean as in version 6. The latter, as with Snowflake, lets me see the amount of precipitation by the density of the blue rain in the graph. As I work outdoors this lets me quickly plan jobs and monitor weather conditions.

For a professional user (I work in post production) seeing what is causing slow downs or bottlenecks in real time is outrageously valuable. I spend less time troubleshooting and more time working. Suddenly the timeline is lagging? Check iStat, CPU through the roof, click, show top processes, oh this one app has gone rogue, quit, machine happy. All in less than ten seconds. In terms of its ability to sustain my productivity, iStat Menus has probably been worth hundreds of man-hours to me since it was first released.

omg blast from the past. First app I bought back in 2008 or so. Fellow Aussie. Developer made a ton of other great apps but I had forgotten for the last 10 years+.

I’m totally happy with iStat Menus 6 and have no reason to upgrade, but I‘ve been so so happy Bjango and all of their apps, there’s no way I can’t upgrade!

Funny enough I was checking their website a week ago to see if there was any updates or new apps from the team there!

Not sold on the new version yet

The change from bar to circle graphs takes up more space while showing less detail, you lose all historical data from v6, much worse / limited configurability for custom fan controls, and no more hotkey trigger for the combined menu either

Thank you so much for the kind words! This update took an incredibly long time to build, and was more about efficiency, modernising, and getting the smaller details right.

Which parts didn’t you like? It’s a very configurable app, so it’s possible there’s settings to get it looking how you’d like.
Anyone having issues with Disks? Here (intel Mac mini) not all mounted volumes are displayed (Time Machine and an SD card are missing).
Removable media is hidden by default. Please open up iStat Menus and go to the disks tab, then turn on the “Removable Volumes” section. Hopefully that does what you’re after!
This is the way for a single developer who does it as a side hobby. Subscriptions are the only way to support software as a business, and it doesn't matter how much you, as a user, despises paying it.
We’re a team, and we have some pretty ambitious projects coming. There’s many ways to make this work.

when is V7 on the Mac App Store? I bought V6 there, not sure how to upgrade.
It’s currently in review on the App Store and will be released as soon as possible. We’re also working on the next round of updates, so if you spot any bugs, please let us know: bjango.com/contact/

iStat Menus 7 has bar graphs, if you’d prefer them. Hotkey triggers are now under the rules tab, but it looks like you’re right and we missed the Combined item. I’m adding a ticket for that now, and it’ll be in a coming update. Fan control is a bit different in version 7.

Paddle is our payment provider. If you buy iStat Menus via our website or within the app, the credit card details are sent to Paddle and we do not see them. We are an incredibly privacy-focused company and we do our best to have the least amount of knowledge of our customers as possible. Paddle has been around for a very long time and is a common payment processor for software.

iStat Menus 7 will also be available on the App Store soon, if that’s your preferred way to buy Mac apps.

Deeply appreciate your work and taking the time to check in on a forum. I wish there was a beta cycle. Would be happy to help in the future. Shoot me a msg. But I can redownload it and collect my feedback in an organized way :)

Worked for me using Firefox (that's all I use).

That's like flying a plane without gauges. Or driving a car without gauges! No tachometer or speedometer. or odometer!
Or a fuel gauge! (or battery, if you EV) No G-Force meter! No turbo PSI gauge!

What a boring experience that is.
