Thank you so much for the kind words! This update took an incredibly long time to build

It sure did! I was beginning to worry that it was on the way to being abandonware with the (now perfectly obvious as to why) minimal updates to 6.

iStat Menus with its reasonable one-time purchase fee has been a mandatory install on my Macs for years. Awesome to see the devs refusing to change to subscription-only pricing.

I don't find it at all better than the prior version. Installed... played around... reverted within 45 minutes. Yuck! Where do YOU find improvements?
I couldn't agree more. I also would like to see a list of real improvements. I do not like:
1. Changes to the look and feel. General dumbing down.
2. Items missing - e.g. memory graph with active/inactive, multiline graphs (load average for one) - I could go on.
3. The new combined doesn't work well for me.
4. Lack of configurability. e.g. Big circles with numbers which can't be changes (and in some cases wrong), Kbits or kBytes - I could again go on.

I haven't reverted yet, but probably will. Sad as this was the very best stats app.

I've got it up and running on both of my MacBook Airs but on my M1 the sensor temp only shows a "?" on the menu bar while on my M2 it shows up fine like it's supposed to. I've tried multiple things to fix it but it stays as a question mark.

Has anyone else come across this?

I love this app and have used it for a very long time but this version I'm not very happy with and actually prefer the previous - Major issues for me is why suddenly do we not have the ability to view graphs such as the battery percentage /drawdown over the day, GPU memory/load and more importantly there are NO Y-values on the graphs?!?!

While the interface is nice I’m pretty sure my Apple Silicon MacBook Pro can handle its CPU, GPU, memory, fan speeds, etc. just fine without me obsessing over it through third party software.

If you get all your software through the Apple Store, then yes, you’re right. But for anything outside that channel, including HomeBrew, you’d be better off monitoring their performance loads.

Removable media is hidden by default. Please open up iStat Menus and go to the disks tab, then turn on the “Removable Volumes” section. Hopefully that does what you’re after!

Thanks for your reply.

The "Removable Volumes" section is already active. I tried to deactivate/reactivate it, uninstalled the app, deleted the iStat Menus related stuff (preferences, cache, etc...) to no avail.

Any other idea to fix it?

Great product but you think that they would support the Safari browser for downloading their software off their site that is just weird chrome sucks but now everybody uses chrome because of all the bloatware that's it
Safari is the most common browser amongst the team here, and I used Safari as the primary browser for testing when building the site, then checked with other browsers. What’s not working? We’re not really doing anything strange with the download button. Hopefully if there is an issue, we can resolve it quickly.

I've been using iStat for years on all my Macs so I'll be downloading this right away!
Thank you!

wish they'd integrate MacOS widgets for all of this
The current form of widgets on macOS aren’t ideal for realtime data that needs to update frequently. The older style Today Widgets allowed for this. If the situation changes and we can do them efficiently, we probably will.

Deeply appreciate your work and taking the time to check in on a forum. I wish there was a beta cycle. Would be happy to help in the future. Shoot me a msg. But I can redownload it and collect my feedback in an organized way :)
We’re happy to accept any feedback you have. There was a public beta with over 1000 people involved.

yes; always been a head-scratcher for me.

I guess some folks favor AIO?
Surprisingly, it was one of the top requested features for iStat Menus 5. It isn’t normally part of a tool like iStat Menus, but we felt it fit in well enough, and given it’s optional, people who don’t want weather can just ignore it.

We will keep making iStat Menus for as long as we possibly can. We’ve been at it for 17 years and are definitely happy doing it for at least another 17. Version 7 was in parallel development with version 6, and we released quite a few updates in 2023. There’s also some behind the scenes work that won’t appear as an actual app update, like upgrades and changes to the weather servers. If you don’t see iStat Menus updates for a couple of months, that definitely doesn’t mean we’ve given up. :D

What’s not working for you with the new combined menu? The large circular graphs can be hidden from the menus, if you’d like. Which information was wrong? We’re a pro app, and we’re not shy about showing all the info we can. This was also a large update, and we’ll continue to evolve from here.

There’s quite a lot that can be configured in iStat Menus 7. Maybe some of the things you’d like are already possible?

I’m not sure what you mean by “Kbits or kBytes”?

This may be because there isn’t any item in the “Items in Menu Bar” section on the sensors tab. If you do have a sensor set up to display in the menu bar and you are still seeing a ?, then please choose Diagnostics › Send Log Files from within iStat Menus and write a short description of the issue.

Wow, 7 is beyond ugly. How could they launch this :( feels like android somehow. I’ll stick with 6, feels Mac native.
Which parts don’t you like? It’s very configurable.

This may be a bug. Can you please choose Diagnostics › Send Log Files from within iStat Menus and write a short note? Thanks.

It’s currently in review on the App Store and will be released as soon as possible. We’re also working on the next round of updates, so if you spot any bugs, please let us know: bjango.com/contact/

How do you even get an app like this listed on the app store? Isn't it too low level for the app store "protections"? Did they make an exception for a traditional and well known application?

Thank you so much for the kind words! This update took an incredibly long time to build, and was more about efficiency, modernising, and getting the smaller details right.

Which parts didn’t you like? It’s a very configurable app, so it’s possible there’s settings to get it looking how you’d like.

Removable media is hidden by default. Please open up iStat Menus and go to the disks tab, then turn on the “Removable Volumes” section. Hopefully that does what you’re after!

We’re a team, and we have some pretty ambitious projects coming. There’s many ways to make this work.
Enclosed is my current menu bar in v6... but I cannot seem to get the same thing in v7...

My only iStat visible menu is the clock with DAY of the week followed by time...
then fantastical, Nord, little snitch, wifi, battery, control center, Notification Center.

How do I just display this in V7? I can get the time up there but so far, not the day. thanks!

I’ve been owning Macs long before the App Store or Apple Stores existed. Running advanced third-party monitoring software hasn’t never been a necessity. What software you’re running or where it’s from has in most cases very little to do with having to monitor performance loads. macOS and your actual Mac will handle things just fine on their own. There are plenty of safeguards in place that won’t allow your system to just go up in flames or take it down. Unless you start tempering with your system on a hardware level (like overclocking the CPU) or there’s something out of the ordinary going on on the hardware level (like owning a Hackintosh or running a Mac with a defect), the use case of monitoring software such as this is fairly limited.

In the end it’s mostly about giving a (false) sense of control some people think their Macs can’t be without. Or simply because they think it’s cool.

Or driving a car without gauges […] Or a fuel gauge! (or battery, if you EV)
Knowing how fast you’re driving is pretty essential and obligated by law. Constantly knowing how fast your CPU runs is not. Unless there’s some hardware defect your Mac is perfectly capable of handling that on its own. Any MacBook already comes with a “fuel gauge”; the battery indicator in the Menu Bar. 🤷‍♂️ But yeah, it’s a neat piece of software for enthusiasts. Obviously it comes with some other nice features - such as the weather - too.

Hi. Firstly great work, love this app.

Re the "history graph in the battery menu", how do I see/enable this?

Thanks.

The Mac App Store and macOS are a bit different to the iOS App Store. I don’t think we’re being given any special treatment at all. We have to comply with the same sandboxing rules as everyone else.

Upgraded - like the new look and the weather - Nice!
Thank you so much!

On the time tab, clicking the pencil in the menu bar preview will open the time format sheet. Clicking the pencil in the sheet will let you edit. From there, you can click + to add items. The calendar icon is under “icons”, and the day of the week is under “days”. There’s a few calendar icon styles to choose from, too.

Here’s a setup using iStat Menus 7 that’s similar.

Thanks! The battery history can be found under the two larger circular graphs. It can be seen in the image below. The time while connected to power is indicated in a different colour, and has a ⚡️ icon underneath (space permitting).

…the use case of monitoring software such as this is fairly limited.

We’re completely fine with iStat Menus being just for enthusiasts, or just because people think it’s cool, but here’s some uses that may step beyond that:
  • Knowing how much time is remaining on battery power, or how much time is left to complete charging.
  • Showing a notification when your battery has finished charging.
  • Placing the date and time for international coworkers in your menu bar or in a menu.
  • Having a calendar and events available, no matter which app is in the foreground. Especially handy if you need access to week numbers.
  • Knowing the ping time and if a server is reachable (good for server admins).
  • Being able to see your CPU’s core activity — a stuck process might be indicated by a single core at 100%. This happens frequently with many background daemons. You can pop open the menu to see which process is causing the issue.
  • Having the network bandwidth in your menu bar can let you know if a download has stalled or completed, without switching apps to check.
  • For developers, being able to keep an eye on memory leaks is useful. iStat Menus doesn’t just show overall memory usage, but also per-process memory usage for the top processes.
  • Seeing how much purgeable space is on a drive. This may indicate temp files need to be cleared, or you need to connect your Time Machine disk soon to clear local snapshots.
There’s other uses, but that’s probably enough for now.

Sorry to say this, but at first experience it is a downdate
I have put this list in a support message:

What’s lost:
  • Graphs have lost grid and Y-axis scale
  • Graphs are never multi-valued (e.g. load average should be 3 graphs)
  • No option to show cache and free memory separately
  • Active, inactive, etc. memory not present (and their graph)
  • No CPU history by core
  • Less graphs for GPU - in particular no memory graph
  • No graphs for Pages In and Out (not that I use them much)
  • Network - no option for Kbits/s (only KBytes/s)
  • Sensors - only lists 4 cores (on 8 core Intel CPU)
What is wrong with interface:
  • Ridiculous circles which add little or nothing (I expect I will get used to them)
  • CPU Cores as just a row of circles!!
  • GPU has items (in circles!) which are not relevant - e.g. fan when there isn’t one
  • GPU FPS should have graph (relieved that is not in a circle)
  • The use of both “Fan” and “Fans” in configuration menus is confusing
  • Compact spacing chops off right end of things (bug?)
What’s better:
  • Additional info in the network section
  • I assume some bug fixes.
