For those watching for changes, the current download is now build 2194 which fixes one bug I noted (see post #165) and, I assume, some other minor bugs.

Have we lost to ability to list multiple sensor points within the Combined dropdown? I used to click the single icon to see my fan RPM, CPU temperate, etc., but now it appears too be merely a "Sensor" section that I then have to hover over. I've checked the web documentation and don't see anything. I'm hoping I'm just missing something in the U.I. It was the same with attached storage drives. I can see them if I hover over the single storage row - but I want to just be able to see them in a glance in the combined list.

No.

On Combined settings, hover over the sensors block:

which becomes a gear wheel.
Screenshot of iStat Menus at 4 Aug 2024 at 13_03_57.png

So click on the gear and up comes the list of items which will be displayed in the combined drop down.

Add them, move them, bin them as you like. My drop down is now like this:

There are lots of little things in the config which don't become obvious until you hover.

Looks like there was an update to version 7, build 2196 fixes the drives not showing in the Menu Bar!

Still not seeing Time Machine drives listed as an option anywhere in the app, though. I see internal drives, network drives, and external drives, but none of my Time Machine drives are listed.

Is there any way to save the order of which items appear on the menu bar? It seems upon restarting my computer that iStat changes the order I have set and I am looking for a way to organize the menu bar how I like and keep it permanent.

That’s not something iStat has any control of unless you’re using the Combined menu. Then you’d configure the menu bar item at the top from that tab’s settings.

For what you’re looking for, an app like Bartender or similar would do the job.

Same here: Time Machine is still missing, as well as an SD card mounted through a dock. I correctly don't see anymore an unmounted partition, though. This weird bug has been fixed.

I noticed a fix in the Power section related to Apple peripherals (keyboard, in my case). Logitech Bluetooth mouse battery unfortunately still shows always 0%.

To be fair, Bjango's website states that "iStat Menus can display the battery level for most Apple wireless keyboards, mice and trackpads. These are shown in the battery menu.". Maybe other bluetooth mouses aren't supported. It'd be nice to have them correctly recognized, considering that macOS system wide Bluetooth menu shows them.

Trying version 7 again with the newer build. In addition to my previously-mentioned issues (no history graph for memory as existed in v6, no vertical battery icon with charge symbol as existed in v6), I've noticed that my two-line time/date menu-bar entry gets cut off on its right-hand edge (see attachment).

Time should show 9:42:48 AM EDT and date should show Sun 4 Aug 2024. On both lines, the rightmost character (and a bit, on the time line) is lost.

I couldn't agree more. I also would like to see a list of real improvements. I do not like:
1. Changes to the look and feel. General dumbing down.
2. Items missing - e.g. memory graph with active/inactive, multiline graphs (load average for one) - I could go on.
3. The new combined doesn't work well for me.
4. Lack of configurability. e.g. Big circles with numbers which can't be changes (and in some cases wrong), Kbits or kBytes - I could again go on.

I haven't reverted yet, but probably will. Sad as this was the very best stats app.
I reverted to the old version. It is not a better interface. Circled bars instead of horizontal bars are bad. They are difficult to check on a glimpse.

Good lord, circle graphs, are you kidding me? The worst way to visualize something like cpu core activity, let alone everything else. PLEASE give us the option of using the v6 bar graphs EVERYWHERE - I don't want to see a circle graph ANYWHERE. I get you give us the option of turning them off in the drop-downs, but then we're losing that information. For gods sake, at least give us a choice of circle graphs vs bar graphs.

I installed v7 for about 45 minutes before I was disgusted enough to use Time Machine to revert back to v6. You couldn't pay ME to install v7 - I'd rather use a competitor's product, and I've been using iStat for many years now. If this is the future, this is goodbye.
I agree completely. I have been a loyal customer, but this circle-bars are horrible. They are so difficult to read on a glimpse. Please bring normal bar graphs back. At least as an option. I have been a loyal customer since version 3.18. If this is the future, then I will not upgrade to the new version.

I also found it pretty buggy for a final release. I bought a license because I want to support the work, but this really needs more work and it really saddens me, because iStat has always been such a great and reliable piece of software.

1000 testers for what? There are so many obvious quirks and questionable design decisions that MUST have had massive feedback during the testing period like we see it here just two days after the release. Or were those testers just a bunch of kids that applied to test just to have some new software?

My quick bug / missing list:

- After starting up the Mac some graphs only show up after some time or after clicking once (mostly the Memory bar)
- On Multimonitor setup iStat won't dim down on the inactive menu bar anymore (already reported this, always looks nasty)
- No more icons on the vertical battery bars
- No option to color the vertical battery bar "red" if battery is running low
- Time Machine drive not showing up on Drive menu
- AirPods Max battery level not showing up anymore in Battery menu (worked perfectly fine in iStat 6)
- ... (lot of stuff has already been written here, so I'll skip that)

Hopefully the guys at Bjango will take it to heart and put a lot of energy into fine tuning this.

Thank you! Which menu items did you have enabled? I’m hoping we can chase down the reason why, and correct it.

I don’t think you’re missing anything. Maybe we should show a sub-menu with full history for battery? I hope this thread has made it very clear that we are all for hearing what people want, and adjusting the app to suit. We have to weight up how many people are asking, and if the feature aligns with what we want iStat Menus to be, but we absolutely will be making changes based on feedback.

Changing update frequency does not make a difference. D-GPU remains active.

- Time Machine drive not showing up on Drive menu
I hadn't noticed this because my TM drive has additional volumes which do show up. Carbon Copy Cloner volumes also do not appear.

I would like to able to turn off the panels with volume size and just have the panels with bytes/sec along with headings indicating the drive.

Borderless graphs are possible, and getting them set up is like iStat Menus 6 — click on the item you’d like to see the settings for, then the background can be removed and the border can be set to transparent, or any colour you’d like. The image below doesn’t show a transparent border, but it can be done by setting the opacity of the colour to 0.

We also now keep the history of recent colours in the picker, for situations where you’re editing many items and want to quickly make them all match (that’s new for iStat Menus 7). Here’s some more info on that:

Thank you for this reply! I managed to set the border to transparent, but that unfortunately doesn't make the graph bigger. The border is still there, just invisible. That's very apparent especially when showing the vertical bars, they are much thinner than they were on version 6. Any chance you can adapt that?

Screenshot 2024-08-04 at 22.51.14.png

Look at the bars on the right, they were definitely wider on v6.

Also, any chance you could add the battery history graph back (for longer that 24 hours)?

This morning, all of a sudden, several of the widgets are misaligned (too low):

This is on an M3 MBA, without external displays or anything.

I'm not seeing these on my M3 Pro MBP. It's working fine here, with different monitors and setups.

It's a piece of software and many items can be adjusted. Plus the developer is participating in this thread and will take note of the feedback. So chillax! Life is too short to get so excited for non-issues.

Thank you so much for this comment! I’m so happy it’s been useful. I hope we can continue to help you for many years to come.

It’ll depend on currency conversion, local taxes etc, but…

iStat Menus 7 = USD$11.99
iStat Menus 7 Upgrade = USD$9.99
iStat Menus 7 Family Pack = USD$14.99
iStat Menus 7 Family Pack Upgrade = USD$12.99

The “bandwidth format” setting on the network tab lets your choose various formats, including one that uses KB/s and MB/s, as well as Kb/s and Mb/s. Showing “0” when two decimal places is used was an intentional choice. Would you prefer “0.00” when the value is “0”? I’m not sure you gain any extra precision from that?
I recommend it to everyone I know who uses a Mac professionally, honestly I can't imagine not having that at-a-glance data. I remember using the widget before menus was released (ah the dashboard, I miss it just for having the calculator so accessible). And the new version is exposing interesting stuff I hadn't seen before. Example: doing a Multicam in Final Cut Pro and if I click away (to the Finder, Messenger, any other app) when I come back Final Cut freezes for a bit before suddenly becoming responsive again. CPU doing very little. But now with improved GPU monitoring on my M1 Max I can see the GPU use is spiking in that period Final Cut is frozen. Not sure why this is, but as usual it's a vital clue to work out what the underlying issue might be (and I suspect it is something I can mitigate with a workflow change in future assuming a software update doesn't correct it).

I buy the upgrades the day they drop typically to support you all and the work you do.

My 3rd party bluetooth mouse actually showed once, then never again. So iStat can recognize it initially, just can't persistently see it for every subsequent reconnection.

Here the Logitech MX Master S3 mouse never showed its charge status.

It shows 0% if I place it as an item in the manu bar. It isn't listed, though, in the dropdown menu.

Besides, at every Mac startup the Power sections shows a "?" in the menu bar. I have to manually deactivate/reactivate the Power section in order to properly show the charge.

I have a notched M2 MacBook Air, so menu bar space is at a premium. I removed some menu bar icons (Spotlight, battery), but the OneDrive icon refuses to budge. Also, when I move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the memory dropdown menu, the entire iStat section of the menu bar disappears and then comes back, as if it were crashing and restarting. I am using the latest build of iStat 7. Overall, I think it is a good product and I am happy to support it.

I have an M3, why havent Apple made more settings for this. It's a tiny small place for icons. I would've liked to use the left side ofthe menubar too. With some shift to see the ordinary bar. Ah well...
Fortunately there is a combined settings to use iStat Menu on the MBA. Much better space on the Studio though.
