WTF? What clock and dagger BS? Bitch at the legal, governmental, etc. system for they are the problem much more then anything Apple does (other then Apple trying to force consistency across all of the stores so all customers have a consistent and uncomplicated experience).

<SNIP>

So, you're telling me that if lawyers found problems, the U2/Bono event would have been cancelled?

They said November. To most people, that doesn't mean November 30th. If I was launching Adam's Tunes on December 30th, I'd announce "Last week of December." REgardless, it doesn't matter. If the ink wasn't dry, THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE ANNOUNCED NOVEMBER IN THE FIRST PLACE. I don't create a promo for a show next Thursday at 11 until I have confirmation that the show will be produced. Confirmation in the contract sort of way.

Doing anything else throws your credibility down the tubes. This pisses me off on a consumer level. On a business level, I now will not trust Apple to deliver a product on time. If I need an edit suite built in 3 days, I won't be calling Apple. A pity, after all the innovation in the first place, to have it ruined by poor PR or broken promises.

Montreal -- where any 15 year old can walk into a 7/11 and buy a case of beer on the way to the peelers.

Hence, other places...... not Alberta.

I could never figure out why people thought that. When I drank imported beer it had the same or comparable amount of alchohol as Canadian beer.\

Thanks for the heads up :)

Because in most people's minds American Beer == Coors and Bud light.

And that is water.

You have kegg0r in-house? Rikards to boot? Remind me to look you up next time I'm in London! ;)

You didn't show enough love to Our President

so he effed up your access to the iTunes Music Store. I tell ya, the guy is spooky powerful! He caused four hurricanes to happen in Florida just weeks before the election so he could make extra campaign stops and hand out "federal aid" which is a euphemism for shameless vote-buying.

Resistance is futile!

PS: I saw a pickup truck with a "Women for Bush '04" sticker in the back window. I took a Post-It note and improvised a nostalgic right-wing mate for that lonely sign. It said: "Men for Dick '72."

That is the most awsome thing I have ever heard of today. And I'm listening to Lewis Black right now.

Is the Phil really Canadian? I thought he had that look in his eye. :)

Here are my predictions:

-Apple will announce the Music Store later this week, but not go live until January 1st - giving away free songs to everyone at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto at Midnight and Various other gatherings around the country (my sources tell me that Steve Jobs and Phil will be arriving in Steve's 1968 VW Microbus to the New Year's Eve celebrations in Barrie to personally turn on the system with radio Personality Al Brown of Rock 95 downloading the first song).

-Apple will start selling gift certificates and pre paid cards this week for the Christmas rush.

Here is my prediction

Gov General Adrienne Clarkson will assemble a group of prominent business people and spend $5 million tax dollars travelling in a private jet to all the other countries where iTMS is running (only those that have Four Seasons Hotels of course) to "study" their experiences and have a few photo ops, before returning to have it all studied by a parliamentary committee which will ultimately result in a tax levy on humming in the car and singing in the shower to compensate artists who are losing royalties for illegal file sharing.

Just a guess.....

Welcome to Canada!

Now you know what we talk about all day...

too late

apple should have brought itms to canada months ago... as far as i am concerned, apple canada is not working hard enough, and i am very disappointed by their inability to localize itms. this should have been done before itms reached europe or at least before the pepsi-ipod campaign started.

let's hope that they can do it before the new year, but i seriously doubt it.

cheers,
taylan

Canadian Discussions

I can understand this discussion devolving into one big thread about Beer, it is Canada after all, but what about Hockey?

And where are the Americans with the Mountie and aboot jokes? Very odd.

Just a note to anyone who cares..... The free single of the week, is free again.... unlike lastnite when it was showing as 0.99.... but that means nothing to all the Canadians here....

Well...

1. There's no Hockey to talk about..
2. The US Mac people must be more civilized/mature.

:D

Oh, thanks for brining up that memory. I had just managed to repress the recurring nightmares of their not actually being an NHL season this year.

<shrugs>back to thereapy[1]

[1] Of course therapy comprises copious amounts of CC and/or Maudite all while watching reruns of Degrassi...

It was so bl**dy predictable

I had a run in with one of the music industry leaders and possible negotiator in this forum some MONTHS back (ha ha) and after pointing out that their 'negotiating' was a sham he got a bit huffy and his reply, both on this forum and in the press, was that the ball was in Apple's court only- yeah RIGHT mate!!! Well, we still have no Canadian negotiation settled. Sure, it may be only hours away *sigh* but it's months from when it SHOULD have been. As pathetic as a very long wet week. The socialist mindset just HAS to cross the "i"s and dot the "t"s. Perfect.

Apple Computer Inc. confirmed for MacCentral on Wednesday that the Canadian iTunes Music Store has been delayed. Company representatives declined to comment on a specific timeframe for the store, but said in a statement that it would be very soon.

"We said that we would launch the iTunes Music Store in Canada by the end of November, but we're going to miss this deadline by a bit," Apple said in the statement given to MacCentral. "You'll hear from us very soon."

[...]

There was no indication from Apple on what caused the Canadian iTunes Music Store not to open as scheduled.

I know what's going on:

This week the US will announce that Steve Jobs has brokered a deal between Canada and the US. The US will be getting Flu Shots and Cheap Drugs and will be lifting the tariff on Softwood Lumber and letting our Cows across the border.

Canada will be getting iTMS and a visit from the Shrubbery in residence (that's a small bush, by the way).

Oh yeah, Steve will be dropping the puck at the Leafs/Habs game next tuesday shortly after announcing the end of the hockey lockout at Molson Headquarters. There will be a Royal Commission to study why an American was able to do this and not a Canadian. The Conservative Party will declare that the hockey strike should have ended in Regina and that this must mean western alienation is alive and well and is proof positive that the Liberals are after their oil.

In response, the Liberals will declare that iTMS must operate mostly in French and the NDP will distribute powerbooks to every man, woman and child in the country (remember that Bob Rae read the 1992 victory speech from the world series off his 140 - the NDP love us).

That's how I see it at least - WOLF! WOLF! WOLF!!

Apple postpones Canadian iTunes music store

By AppleInsider Staff
Published: 01:30 PM EST

In an official statement issued today, Apple Computer conceded that it has missed its own deadline for launcing its iTunes download service in Canada.

Apple Computer has postpone the launch of its iTunes music download service in Canada, according to a company statement provided to Macworld's news service on Wednesday.

"We said that we would launch the iTunes Music Store in Canada by the end of November, but we're going to miss this deadline by a bit," the company said. "You'll hear from us very soon."

During a music related event in October that saw the launch of iTunes in 9 new European countries, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said that the Canadian store would open for business in November.

Apple provided no explanation for the delay, though sources have recently hinted at impending delays that reportedly began mid-month. According to one source, the Canadian iTunes music store was originally scheduled to launch around November 17th.

Sorry found problems with what? What U2 coming to the event last month? The special edition U2 iPod? or what?

If a legal issue, etc. popped up that was sure to prevent release of iTMS for Canada or the event (not sure what you are talking about above) then it is highly likely that Apple would have made no statement about release or not have the event.

So yes I guess you could take that away from what I stated but it wasn't really the intent or meat of my statement... my statement was that to bring iTMS to market involves so many groups with fingers in so many pies, contracts with countless parties, and legalities (including governments in all of those) that Apple is really at the mercy of others. They can have things all but done (heck even done, legal injunctions for example) and still have something popup that prevent the release as planned.

So let me get this straight Apple should be more specific about their dates even when they cannot be sure in the date? They said November because on one side of things if all things went smoothly it would have been ready earlier in November yet they knew many issues could pop up but they still felt confident it would fall sometime in November. So they said that in November they hoped to have iTMS for Canada.

Yes they could have said nothing at all but they tried to let folks know that they are working on iTMS for Canada and that it was getting close to being ready. The reality is the deal isn't really done until the store is open or within a couple of days of being done... so they wait until the day that it opens to let folks that it will open?

Anyway obviously things didn't work out as they had hoped and hence they missed their estimate November... if this makes the sky falling for you so be it don't use their products, etc.

IMHO you are being over reactive to realities of the issue and likely nominal delay from their November statement.

Basically you are holding Apple to a nearly impossible standard for the release of something like iTMS (especially if you factor in folks bitching to know sooner when they will get the store, basically pushing Apple to announce release date estimates...). It is a hard line to walk and you bet Apple would like to be correct 100% on its estimates.
