It's not today, and since we've seen what Apple is capable of with the ITMS.ca, do not even think about this week...
I don't see how you can infer "it's not today" from "you'll hear from us very soon." "Very soon" could mean today, next week, or next month: it all depends on the implied timeframe, which we don't know.

I know what's going on:

This week the US will announce that Steve Jobs has brokered a deal between Canada and the US. The US will be getting Flu Shots and Cheap Drugs and will be lifting the tariff on Softwood Lumber and letting our Cows across the border.

Canada will be getting iTMS and a visit from the Shrubbery in residence (that's a small bush, by the way).

Oh yeah, Steve will be dropping the puck at the Leafs/Habs game next tuesday shortly after announcing the end of the hockey lockout at Molson Headquarters. There will be a Royal Commission to study why an American was able to do this and not a Canadian. The Conservative Party will declare that the hockey strike should have ended in Regina and that this must mean western alienation is alive and well and is proof positive that the Liberals are after their oil.

In response, the Liberals will declare that iTMS must operate mostly in French and the NDP will distribute powerbooks to every man, woman and child in the country (remember that Bob Rae read the 1992 victory speech from the world series off his 140 - the NDP love us).

That's how I see it at least - WOLF! WOLF! WOLF!!

I could believe it..

But what about beer?

If we don't hear something soon, I'm going to have to use our universal health-care to get treated for the stress!

I'm sure glad I don't have a gun, I don't know what I'd do.

Apple postpones Canadian iTunes music store

Apple provided no explanation for the delay, though sources have recently hinted at impending delays that reportedly began mid-month. According to one source, the Canadian iTunes music store was originally scheduled to launch around November 17th.

Well, looks like some industry lawyer went "Whoooa... wait a minute" just as they were about to pull the switch...

....could also be the result of the other services already in operation in Canada saying to the labels... "look if their huge library is licensed for Canada, we want access to the same library"....given that their current licensed libraries are much smaller in comparison... allowing Apple to run with a larger licensed library than the other services would likely be illegal from a trade perspective.

No, not a lawyer. It was Valdy, Dan Hill, and Anne Murray. Like, you don't have a clue how powerful and evil they really are.

I could never figure out why people thought that. When I drank imported beer it had the same or comparable amount of alchohol as Canadian beer.\

Thanks for the heads up :)
I specifically said grocery stores. I think that there is a law in U.S.A. that force grocery stores to sell light beer. For example, Budweiser will have 3% alcohol in a 7 Eleven, but 5% alcohol in a liquor store. Weird, but true...

When I said that we had REAL BEER in grocery store, I wasn't refering specifically to canadian beer...

Does it not seem strange that the American iTMS web page hasnt updated? Its still listing the Next Free Single: 11/30.

I noticed that too, like the programmers were too busy trying to get the Canadian store online to upload this week's Free song. Hmmm. They obviously didn't succeed, if that was the case.

Who's to say that REAL beer is measured by alcohol content? Shouldn't it be on taste? Personally, I think Kokanee and Bud and all that other stuff is piss water... OK for a quick beer on a hot day, but real beer has more flavor, such as Kokanee Gold or Sleeman's Honey Brown .... but then again, that's just opinion.

I believe we Canadians have been screwed enough by Apple, first they do not respect the exchange rate, second we have to wait for hardware, third this fiasco.

That is it I am going to use P2P networks, Apple can screw themselves.

They updated the store *really* late last night!

Well, if they've done it once, they'll do it again...

I checked on the Store about 8 times yesterday, and found that it didn't update (i.e. new releases, new music videos, new free single, etc.) until later in the night - sometime around 8-10 p.m. CST!

I would believe this to be an indication that the whole darn thing is setup and ready to roll, but Apple was forced, for some odd reason or another, to pull out all then Canada stuff; this would take a small sum of time, thus causing the day-long delay in the new releases. Now, Apple might have to re-do all the changes they had already done...

Just my 2¢.

Pretty frustrating for Canada.

Don't forget to call this inside source specifiying Dec. 1st a "promise' though ;)

And don't expect to hear official word on who or what pulled the plug. Negotiations may not permit that kind of public finger-pointing. It sure seems like Apple thought they could make it happen in Nov. right up to this week. Random guess--the recording industry may be to blame ;)

I gave a negative sympathy vote--it's certainly not GOOD news. A day is a terrible thing to waste :)

Is it illegal for Chapters to have a store with more books in it than a small independent bookstore? Just because the library is bigger doesn't mean it's illegal.

I prefer to forego timeframes and live in a pleasant place called denial, where it's still November, the beer is free, and people post weblinks to articles instead of using copy & paste

You lose to Dan Quayle's immortal mangling: "it's a terrible thing to lose one's mind" -- besides, it's not really so terrible to waste a day :)

[original: "a mind is a terrible thing to waste", in case that wasn't obvious]

Ok, this has been a funny day, yesterday gave a bit of action, let's see what happens, if happens, before MWSF 05, it seems to be the last big news of the year...

Hey Buddy, I'm not spending my entire day on the forums, I'm not as informed as you are guys ! I've checked it quick and since you were talking about beer, I assumed you forgot the whole matter!

Call me if something real happens!

Never got this part of trade. Isn't it the consequence of a free market? Build a better Mousetrap and all that? If Apple's more savvy at getting labels and artists on board, and marketing that, then why should everybody and their grandmother get to ride on their coat tails? Same goes for Virgin in France.. they can't compete in the player market so they cry foul instead of innovating their way into market share..

Anyway, don't blame Apple for this one. I'm no Apple-lover myself, but if Steve had his way they'd have stores in every country. It's the record labels and their thugs in the RIAA counterparts fighting to keep their grips on a dead (not dying) and corrupt distribution system.

My thought? Apple should point the finger, raise the heat, and draw attention to the mafia dons who run the recording industry. I'd hope they'd have the clout to get people really questioning the methodology of $15.99 for a CD and suing grandmothers and 4th graders.

Are people going to get that? I feel very, very proud that you can quote shrub :-D

I got it!

Any delay for iTMS Canada can almost assuredly be a result of the record industry trying to squeeze every last fraction of a penny that they can from this process. I say too bad so sad; if they weren't innovative enough to come up with a distribution system for electronic music, TS to them. Very simplistic, I know, but I'm not a fan of the industry...

I love how every article about Canada turns into a beer debate.

I also love when people say "if iTMS doesn't open soon in Canada, I will just download from P2P networks". So lame. The only thing comparable to this is buying the regular CD, not stealing music.

Fishes,
narco.
