My lg C1 has been a perfect dumb tv. Work’s brilliantly with my atv4k, series x, 4070ti super pc, Nintendo switch And Samsung q950t with rear speakers. No bugs or sound thats out of sync. 4k, 120hz, Dolby vision, atmo you name it. It all works! Apples software and format support would need to be 10/10.

This set up looks beautiful. Is that a dual sub set up? Also where did you get that beautiful PC case? never mind... I don't know if I can afford it.

I was a major plasma evangelist, and I went OLED and I don’t miss a thing honestly

I would just jump in… It’s awesome
I don't know if I can explain this properly, but my main concern at this point is the "video" look of movies on newer TVs. I don't really think it is a question of capability, but very few new TVs allow you to adjust the settings to 24 frames (48 is no improvement, IMO). They may have a "cinematic" mode which will adjust some settings, but mostly don't look good to me. It is hard to know TV to TV whether they will allow the tweaking. I know that I am speaking subjectively and may sound like a complainer, but I always get discouraged when looking at new TVs and having salespeople basically try and sell me on exactly what I don't want.

You would need to make this with a built in "slot" for the current AppleTV box and when you want to upgrade it you just detach it and slap the newer model in.

The Apple TV has quite a bad user interface. Only Apple TV+ itself is worse.

I am not sure they could make a TV which is easy to use.

Thanks. It's a Fractal North Design PC. I only have one Subwoofer. The other black item is an Xbox Series X.

I don’t think it’s going to be a good idea … Yet I wish Apple prove me wrong … I thought AR is the way to go Tim and yet a TV rumors …

If it's going to be just another TV with rebadged LG OLED / Samsung QD-OLED panel, then it's a boring and unnecessary product that should not exist.

If it's a mini-LED co-developed with one of major Asian brands but with Apple's own local dimming algorithm and at reasonable price premium...... sign me up!

Wake me when someone decides to make a 'dumb' TV again. Something with a gorgeous display that does absolutely nothing except display whatever content I feed into it via a variety of ports.

Is that too much to ask???

For those of you sarcastically cr4pp1ing all over dmr77's comment, I agree 100% with dmr77. I want a STUPID TV. At ABSOLUTELY most, perhaps it could have a built-in WiFi for firmware updates. However, here is ALL that I want in those updates: Video and Audio fixes or enhancements.

Otherwise, I want a BASIC menu that allows me to tweak to Video and Audio settings based on my viewing environment, and there is a argument for a ridiculously stupid TV that doesn't even have audio settings, since, I will connect my media devices to my surround-sound system.

I want a BEAUTIFUL Video experience, and NONE of these:

1. TV Brands "Free Media" Library.
2. Built In: AppleTV, Netflicks, Amazon, ANY TV Brand App Library
3. Connections to my home, offers of security systems, etc...

FOCUS On a GREAT Picture, knock a couple hundred bucks off the price and OMIT crap I don't want.

Yes, I DO connect my other streaming devices, external surround sound, yes I KNOW this is possible. But, the point is, since I KNOW it is possible and CHOOSE to use external devices, REMOVE this capability from the TV Set (ie, make it a monitor).

It has to be a tv that somehow beautifully displays spatial video - that’s the ony way this rumour jives with Apple’s feedback loop approach to products.

Apple can't even design a mouse. The AppleTV will be stupidly overpriced, underpowered, and use some dumb proprietary connector. You will not be able to just connect this to your home theater receiver without a special AppleTV QuickConnect cable. And it will have razor sharp edges and a remote made of untempered glass. lol

Why not just add Apple TV+ and an hdmi input to the Apple’s current external displays. The displays are already running a variant of iOS.

If Apple really wants to get into this space, Apple would have to add something compelling over its competitors. HomePod and HomePod min integration for a surround sound setup? HomeKit integration?? I just don’t see it.

An 8K display at 218ppi (same as Studio Display and XDR display) would be about 40.4”. I see Samsung sells 8K OLED TV’s for about $5000 - $6000. That’s the same price as the XDR. I come back to adding an HDMI port and TV+ built into the display without a computer would be reasonable. Very niche and not a real competitor to anything out there.

IF Apple does this they will gimp the TV with some awful refresh rate and then try and say -no you see it’s the equivalent of 240hz on other TVs with out silicon. Sort of like the lies surrounding needing less RAM for MacOS when any CS major will tell you it’s a crock of Dookey

Your understanding of how RAM works is flawed, unfortunately. Requiring less RAM -has- been one of macOS's strengths over the years. That's not a lie, but more RAM is needed for certain -apps- and LLMs, as used by Apple Intelligence.

If Apple had bumped up the base RAM years ago, we'd be in a world where bloated apps were consuming all of it, and then we'd need more.

Word. I love the screen in my LG OLED but I just wish I could turn off all the smart content.

I think Apple did a TV.

People took this all took literally believing Apple would make a TV being a screen.

Steve solved the problems with TV's being a screen with many devices connected to it, with all different controllers and services.

The Apple TV did allow for unlimited services under one interface. Additionally each app api's can provide their content in a uniform format allowing search across all apps and the Apple TV App on yr Apple TV to provide screens of programming from all apps like they all came from a single interface.

Despite impressive advances in picture and streaming quality, every year the TV user experience gets worse as providers rely on alternate revenue streams to offset aggressive pricing schemes. Ad hijacking, in-line ads, subscription features, promoted channels …

My Samsung Frame has a decent screen and impressive feature set -- both ruined by gimmicky software. I am able to use my Apple TV for 90% of what I need, but that other 10% is super annoying. The Frame famously crashed during its own set-up wizard and pushes privacy evading and subscription required features.

My LG OLED has a significantly better UX, but only after I disabled quite a lot of the built-in spyware. And it's a slightly older model -- it's possible a 2024 LG software is just as janky as the Frame.

Apple could charge a premium for providing a TV that was well set up out of the box and did not spy on the end user.

Unfortunately, I imagine TVs are even more rare purchase than computers (I've bought 3 in 20 years). Small market, slow sales.

A nice TV viewing experience.

Everyone else offers a sluggish, broken, interface that’s infested with spyware.

I’ve never connected my Android Sony to the internet, and every few weeks, I get a pop up over my content demanding that I finish setting it up for the best experience.

The bar is so low for Apple to improve.

100% this. Smart TVs have nothing to offer me. And I really don’t think Apple could be successful in bringing a TV to market. I can see it now, $5k for a 42” OLED TV with 120hz. But it’s “le best design ever” and center stage 720p webcam. Suckers will eat it up, and then in 5 years it’s vintage.
Don't forget the notch at the top for the 720p camera and the Face ID registration process that requires you to do a headstand to get all of the angles correctly.
