I'm not liking the black sport at all. Looks kinda cheap. I know what they say about opinions but glad I got the SS.

Its does look kinda cheap without a doubt. The weight is VERY noticeable between the sport and the SS. The SS feels like its worth the money for sure. You made the right choice

Are you generally a watch wearer? See my husband always has smaller sized watches, and hes gone for the 38. hes so adamant he doesnt wasnt a 42 and i worry about the reality. I couldnt decide (I actually would prefer 42, and im a small lass) and ordered both and will check it out at my appointment in 2 hours.

Yes I'm a watch wearer and HATE big watches on what i would class as my small wrists. The 42mm is imho the only choice for a guy. When you see this thing for yourself all your opinions will change. For some reason this watch does not photograph well once worn (it looks big when its not) It looks soooooo much better in reality

I tried the blue leather loop. Hated it in pictures. Loved it in person. Excellent choice.

I did indeed, you did the 100% right thing with the SS, it screams quality over the lighter sport version. All the leather straps look really nice and the blue is striking (no photos of it though I'm afraid)

That sounds great, glad i've made the right choice :D i also brought a white and black sport band for the gym. Looking forward to trying the Watch out even with the 4-6 weeks for the leather loop

Thanks, I'll warn him. I did offer to get a 42 space grey sport too and he declined.

Would love to know your opinions when you try it on. I bought the black sport band too. Looks amazing with the SS.

Well it's not really - it's down to the individual. You prefer the 42mm.

No don't get me wrong, I was hoping the 38mm would be the one (cheaper lol) but struck me straight away of being a girls watch in comparison.

i can confirm that the stainless steel with milanese loop/link bracelet is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. 38mm is smaller than you think it is, i have 145mm wrists and the 38mm was a bit too small and then 42mm a bit to big!
still not sure which one to go for, might go back and have another look tomorrow...

I shall post on the forum once i've tried it on :) i'm really looking forward to seeing it in person, those watch face's look really good.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've registered to share my thoughts having just got out of my try on (London Stratford).

I chose this store on the grounds it would be quieter than one of the flagships and it was pretty chilled. I got there about 0930 for a 1000 try on and actually was able to get seen early.

The store had display cases showing sport, ss and edition models even though you can't try the edition there. There are also working models around the store with ipad minis
that give contextual extra info, updating as you move around the ui which was pretty cool. Try on models weren't working but there were charging cables in the drawers suggesting they will do, this wasn't a concern as I'd already had plenty of time to play with the ui. Key
takeaways are:

- ui felt very smooth and responsive. This was my no1 concern after the verge review but I didn't see any lag apart from when refreshing the maps glance. Even that was no worse than fetching gps position and loading maps on my iPhone 6.

- both ss and sport watches looked and felt good, definitely both quality kit. The ss is noticeably heavier but not in a bad way.

- as others have said milanese loop looks and feels great in the flesh

- sport band also feels great, much softer to the touch and more comfortable than any rubber strap I have had.

- my favourite was the black leather loop. The stone and brown looked very light in colour. I didn't try the blue but it looked better than some photos. It's a kind of rich royal blue, not so bright to be cartoonish. Also the leather loop has magnets all the way round the band and closes very positively. The milanese only has a magnet at the end of the strap but it is very strong and feels secure. I assume these are rare earth magnets, there's a really positive snap as they engage

- both sizes are smaller than I expected, I have 170mm wrists and 42 didn't feel to big

Overall I had already pre ordered the sport with white band in 42 and nothing made me change this. I'm not sold in the white band but didn't like the space gray as much as the silver - not that it's bad just personal preference. I'll see if it grows on me and if not get a black sport or leather loop.

Any other questions about the experience?

some pics from this morning...

I'll be going back first thing tomorrow morning to try some more on/take pictures, if anyone has any requests for watches they'd like to see on a wrist let me know and i'll get pictures of it :)

I'm off to try one on in MK at 12:30, managed to order a Space Grey Sport at 8:02! A lot smoother than I thought it was going to be using the app.

Hoping to try the new MacBook too, did you see if there were any in the MK store? I'd read that they may not have any yet?!

Damn I knew I wanted to do something else while I was there! The majority of the ground floor is taken up by the watch table and the people either side doing the try on appointments.

I wasn't really paying attention to anything else to be completely honest but I wouldn't be surprised if they didnt have them on display with all the fuss being made of the watch.

any chance you got to try on the SS Space Black? any pics?
Believe it or not, they didn't have it to try on! It was in the sealed case display but that was it. Wasn't all that impressed by my favourite from the start...the SS link

That is a 42mm black sports by the way. When you see this thing in real life a lot will agree. The 38mm looks feminine in its size. Ignore all photos!! You have to actually try the real thing on

This is a really interesting reaction. When I tried on the 42mm vs 38mm cut-outs, my wife instantly said the 42mm was better and the 38mm looked too feminine, but when I took photos the 42mm looked huge.

I'll find out for sure tomorrow - try appointment in Kingston booked for the afternoon. Hope I don't change my mind and have to wait until June!

Thank you - Great to hear a personal view of it! - Were they taking orders in store to allow pick-up on the 24th itself?

Thanks for sharing. Interesting to see the general thoughts growing that the 42mm is not as big as photos make it look.

Did the store expect to have any stock to sell to walk-ins on the 24th? Or when they will start receiving stock?

I think you're gonna see this more and more often!!

Let me know what you think!! Swear down the photos and cut outs should 100% be ignored

Thanks. To be honest I didn't ask about orders having already tried it on but the staff were clear all orders are online only. Not sure what would happen if you get to the end of appointment and say ok I want one, I presume they would help you order.

I see there's a few questions on the space gray. I was never sold on this but I did try it on and liked it more than I expected to. Id say it looks unflashy more than cheap, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I came away liking the ss more than I expected to, but still happy that the sport is a good product and a good price point for gen 1

This is a pretty good description of the whole experience. I also got there early and was seen early. Pic was paired with an apple rep who had the watches I had selected in my app favourites which I thought was pretty cool.

I agree that they both seem smaller than I expected. I would've expected the 42 to be noticeably bigger but tbh it was kinda difficult to tell them apart withouth holding them side by side.

I tried on the blue leather loop and thought it was really nice. It's pretty much the same shade of blue as the leather iPhone and iPad cases for anyone wondering.

I overheard them telling someone else that they could help them out the order through but it would be the same process as online orders and obviously shipping times had already slipped.

Sounds to me like in the UK at least there will be nobody getting an Apple watch from a store on launch day.

I was instore this morning and posted on an earlier thread...the 38mm is definately smaller in person no matter how you photograph it! Here's a couple of side by side pics (I am female with a 145mm wrist):

I have to disagree.

The 38mm looked pretty ridiculous on my rather large arm but it would be fine on a guy with smaller arms.

It really comes down to your build rather than gender.

The 42 is so tiny I thought it was the 38. Lol.

I've just gone ahead and ordered a 42mm SS as well. Delivery is 4-6 weeks whereas the 38mm is in the initial 2 weeks of launch. I'll get to an Apple Store later on today and try both and then cancel one.
