Ok, just back from my try on at the Apple store in Norwich (UK) and one thing has struck me! This thing looks huge in photos, in real life its Not!! I have 170mm wrists and despite the photos looking BIG on my wrist, in real life, it's perfect, not big at all! You guys need to see this thing in real life!!!

Tried on loads of different styles and the clear winner without a doubt is.....

The Milanese Loop! Just beautiful

Happy to hear that , yeah gonna buy the same !

I wore the black loop and really liked it but also got a good look at the Blue and liked that too - looks deep and inky in colour. Either would be a good choice, black I guess is more conservative but the blue looks very classy

Thanks. I have always bought everything in black. The blue one not only looks tempting, your description really helps me to jump the ship.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've registered to share my thoughts having just got out of my try on (London Stratford).

I chose this store on the grounds it would be quieter than one of the flagships and it was pretty chilled. I got there about 0930 for a 1000 try on and actually was able to get seen early.

The store had display cases showing sport, ss and edition models even though you can't try the edition there. There are also working models around the store with ipad minis
that give contextual extra info, updating as you move around the ui which was pretty cool. Try on models weren't working but there were charging cables in the drawers suggesting they will do, this wasn't a concern as I'd already had plenty of time to play with the ui. Key
takeaways are:

- ui felt very smooth and responsive. This was my no1 concern after the verge review but I didn't see any lag apart from when refreshing the maps glance. Even that was no worse than fetching gps position and loading maps on my iPhone 6.

- both ss and sport watches looked and felt good, definitely both quality kit. The ss is noticeably heavier but not in a bad way.

- as others have said milanese loop looks and feels great in the flesh

- sport band also feels great, much softer to the touch and more comfortable than any rubber strap I have had.

- my favourite was the black leather loop. The stone and brown looked very light in colour. I didn't try the blue but it looked better than some photos. It's a kind of rich royal blue, not so bright to be cartoonish. Also the leather loop has magnets all the way round the band and closes very positively. The milanese only has a magnet at the end of the strap but it is very strong and feels secure. I assume these are rare earth magnets, there's a really positive snap as they engage

- both sizes are smaller than I expected, I have 170mm wrists and 42 didn't feel to big

Overall I had already pre ordered the sport with white band in 42 and nothing made me change this. I'm not sold in the white band but didn't like the space gray as much as the silver - not that it's bad just personal preference. I'll see if it grows on me and if not get a black sport or leather loop.

Any other questions about the experience?

Cool. This is my local store. I'll be going there tomorrow for my try on appointment. I've also ordered the white sports watch but in 38 mm as I have 140 mm wrists. The White grew on me over time. However the best thing about is that it's so customisable and I intend to get another strap after I see them tomorrow.

Went into my local store earlier, expecting it to be packed with eager people clamouring round the Watch displays. In fact, while the tables of iPhones, iPads and Macs were busy, the three demo Watches on display were completely untouched. I was surprised. Of course, this meant I could get a good play with a Watch and I was blown away by the slickness of the on-screen graphics and the smooth, intuitive action of the digital crown. It seems to be a fantastically well designed device which feels expensive and beautifully made. As I finished my impromptu hands on, another person came up and started playing around with one of the Watches. Otherwise, they remained untouched. Are all the early adopters making proper appointments to try the Watch? And are the general public just not that interested, I wonder?

Just got back from the Brent Cross store which seemed to have more Apple staff then customers. I got there for 1230 and my appointment was for 1300 but i was seen straight away. Staff were very helpful and really eager to change multiple straps

These were my impressions.

Apple watch sport is a very light but to me felt and looked a little like a toy ( I heard at least 4 different customers say the exact same thing). If it weren't for the Apple keynotes I would swore the casing was made from plastic. (reminded me of those old Nano's that could be worn as watches)

The SS looks and feels the business, very elegant look to it (I really didn't want to take it off)

The Milanese loop felt quite flimsy and kept reminding me of a seat belt or suitcase strap. Probably the one strap that looks better online then in person.

The Rubber bands have a nice feel but a bit fiddly to put on the first time. I tried to wear it like a strap but as the name implies it's a band which needs to be hooked first before adjusting the

Personally the classic buckle was the most comfortable and less fiddly to put on and take off.

Sizes?

42mm was about the same size of my pebble steel. The 38mm is a lot smaller and when my mrs tried it it fitted nicely and felt more feminine.

I Pre ordered both the Sport and SS with black sport bands but have now cancelled the Sport model.

Oh yeah. the sharpness and resolution of the screen is unbelievable.

I preordered the silver sport watch with white band, and also got the Milanese loop separately. Starting to have doubts on how the Sport will look with the Milanese....anyone seen these two together?

Seat belt or suitcase strap :D Personally I think the flimsy qualities of it make it feel so perfect as a strap. Comfortable and well fitting (unlike many of the other bands)

I haven't seen it myself so am guessing here, but maybe the 38 looks small in comparison to the 42 and when seen in isolation looks fine.

Good review. I mentioned in another post the the Sport did look a little plasticky. Nice watch but seemed to lack class.
I agree about about the Milanese strap. Nice but fiddly and when I tried it on the steel end temporarily rubbed against the side if the watch as I strapped it on. Over time this may cause scratching.

@djrm is that Milanese the 42mm model? That's what I ordered this morning and pleased I did now I've seen your photo.

Thank you.

It's my local store too, but absolutely manic on Saturdays, especially during school holidays :(

You didn't by chance take any pictures of the classic buckle did you? I'm really curious seeing as its the one I ended up ordering :D. What did you think of the leather?

Disagree, They would generally take one out of the drawer, then put it back to try another so mostly I was not comparing it to each other. After trying on the 42mm then a min later trying on the 38mm I was like wow, girls watch!

----------

Well the watch was definitely smaller than the 42mm version and the camera was my iPhone 6 Plus....

I don't know what to tell you mate.

Same camera as me too! Are we related? :)

I took a couple of pics but only the watch face really shows not so much the strap. I think you have made a good choice, the classic buckle felt the most natural out of the straps and the one the mrs liked most.

I'll probably pick up a strap in near future

Believe it or not, they didn't have it to try on! It was in the sealed case display but that was it. Wasn't all that impressed by my favourite from the start...the SS link

Image

Man, how many did they let you try on?? I was under the impression that you couldn't try out lots of combinations at the appointment because things were going to be so backed up.

I've been leaning more towards the Milanese Loop vs. the Link Bracelet if I decide to get one. Your photos make the Milanese look marvelous. I like that it looks classy, but for some reason seems slightly geeky to me but in an endearing sort of way if that makes sense? Like chainmail armor, or some strange material that you don't see very often.

How did you like the feel of the sport band? In Gruber's review he talked about how he was surprised at how comfortable it was. My whole thing is this: Once I decide if I should get an Apple Watch, should I get the cheaper model as I'll likely have it for a shorter period of time given that it's a first generation product, or should I get the stainless steel because it will be more durable with the sapphire display and I don't want scratches all over it?

Does anyone know if it's possible to order the regular sport model with the black band? I'm afraid the black sport model will easily scratch like the black iPhone 5. Otherwise I think the black model looks nicer. I'm not a super fancy guy, and in my work it wouldn't seem weird for me to have the cheaper model (I'm wearing a "nice" hoodie right now, lol), but I currently have an old, kinda beat up stainless steel watch and generally prefer them.

I've just gone ahead and ordered a 42mm SS as well. Delivery is 4-6 weeks whereas the 38mm is in the initial 2 weeks of launch. I'll get to an Apple Store later on today and try both and then cancel one.

I want one really bad but I'm sure that the 2nd generation Watch will be 10 times better, just like the 2nd generation iPad were miles ahead of the original.

I'm glad you guys are saying the space gray sport is basic looking. That is what I'm after. I know this is to be a piece of jewelry but for a while at least I want the tech without calling a lot of attention to myself. I normally go for stainless with stainless bands (my mechanical watches are stainless) and talked myself into the space gray. I feel like I will be very happy with it and I get to do it with a little bit of stealth.
