I don't know if I am in the minority on this or not.. but does it seem like a pointless upgrade for the ipods to have cameras in the back of them.. I have never once looked at my ipod (classic, nano and 2 shuffles) and thought to myself I wanted a camera on the back of it.

it almost seems like Jobs is running out of ideas this year.. maybe it just one of those years where nothing really new is coming out, but a mild update

only time will tell I guess - I guess every 3 or 4 years there is something revolutionary that Apple puts out if my mind serves me correctly

I guarantee you if a camera is added these things will FLY off the shelves.

I use to think that about camera phones. I now take at least 6x what I use to take (according to iPhoto). I use the camera on my iPhone daily.

well that is another idea entirely.. every phone has a camera in it now too.. so why does an ipod need one? just in case we need to take a picture and our phone isn't with us, but our ipod is? who takes their ipod more places than their cell phone? you may argue this but I guarantee more people take their phones

and I agree they will fly off shelves.. I was just stating my opinion about it

Gruber has lost his mind. He needs to quit drinking the Adobe AIR kool-aid. The iTunes Store may get rendered by WebKit in iTunes 9, but there’s no way the UI will be in WebKit view. Maybe Apple will bring back “yellow box” for Windows?!?

You made me laugh and I don't mean that in a offensive way with the yellow box reference. iTunes on Windows would require a complete redesign on the Windows side if they went with 64bit Cocoa and it has to be mIntained. It's interesting that he says this as iTunes is already in a sense a browser, albeit a specialized one.

I really couldn't care less as long as iTunes is faster than it is now. It seems to be the slowest app on my Mac and I use it most as a music player which is a problem.

I disagree. An iPod with a camera in it at least gives it an ability of a eye-fi card which costs a lot. Many would use this instead of their personal camera as I do. Also it will probably have the iPhone's ability to touch focus and that's not considering that it will probably have a microphone that the nano has built in already which will help it with a lot of apps. You're looking for something special and it will not happen. The iPhone will get those special features first. The iPod touch will benefit from getting some of the features of the iPhone w/o a cell contract while always have twice the storage in a new update. Be happy with that. Nobody can offer more and that's including the Zune.

Most camera phones have crap cameras. Not that the iphone's camera is going to replace any camera, even the worst P+S, but it's far better than the camera on my phone, and it's only a year old. Does anyone know of any phones that have better cameras than the iphone? I'm certainly no expert, just curious.

The way I look at it is this: I had a 1G ipod and didn't buy another one until my current 5G. I'm about due for an upgrade, and if apple wants to put a camera on my new 64 GB touch, why not? I always have my ipod in one pocket and my phone in the other. I'll certainly be pulling the ipod out to take a picture if I have a choice. I've NEVER used the camera on my phone for anything other than phone wallpapers or picture messages. At least with the ipod touch, I can take a photo that I would actually look at on my computer.

Now, if I wasn't already in the market for a new ipod, there's no way a camera would make me upgrade. And if they don't up the capacity to 64 GB, I'm still not upgrading.

Far-fetched I know, but that would be hella-interesting if they did bring back yellow box.

You are forgetting one other very important time when you need to take a picture of your phone, but don't have a mirror available. This seems to create a grave and desperate need for iPod cameras. ;)

lol, but seriously, I agree. I see the logic behind an iPod touch camera, but the nano/classic don't (seem) to need one. Although if Steve Jobs is presenting then you will need one... oh yes... you will need one...

scratch that, you will need two

You do realize there are a ton of young people who take their iPod everywere and don't have a cell phone or have one but it does not have a camera?

Apple.com Apple TV 160GB

Apple.com Apple TV 160GB (MB189LL/A) now shipping within 24 hours.

40 GB still 1-2 weeks, just making notice.

who takes their ipod more places than their cell phone?
I do. I hate having a cell phone. I hate it when I am at the park relaxing and have my serenity interrupted by the brash chirp of a cell phone. With just my iPod though, I can listen to some good music or an entertaining audiobook and temporarily remove myself from life with no interruptions.

Totally agree but it seems I always think I won't need it and then when I get home I get "Why didn't you answer me? I needed you to _________"

Ummm, just about any Sony Ericsson ever created, or even some Nokias for that matter.

but if you ever do find yourself using one of these, you will quickly discover that a good camera is no replacement for a usable interface.
iPhone's may not have the greatest camera, but everything else makes up for this minor inconvenience ten-fold.

kids don't need an ipod. they just get stolen or teachers take them away

So they don't need to take them to school or leave them where people will steal them. High School students fall in that same group you just stereotyped and I think they're the most common iPod users. It's a responsibility thing. If you don't think they need one don't buy it. If they buy it and loose it, they learn faster. ;)

They may not need them, but they have them.

And the risk of teachers taking them is minimal, because well, most just don't care. If you are unlucky enough to have it taken, they usually give it back at the end of the day (although they probably hate you at this point)

Too much Beatles talk and games for it to not happen. Even Amazon is offering remastered Beatles albums. Besides, Michael's dead and his funeral cost too much. The family needs the money. :D

I feel almost responsible to point out that the go ahead to create Beatles: Rock Band would have happened about a year ago. Those things aren't made overnight.

and they started remastering them back in 2005 i think.

The only decision that could have been made after his death would be if they do wind up on iTunes. And to be honest, I am sick of the whole Beatles/iTunes thing.
Really people, anybody who so obsessive about that topic probably already have them on CD's ripped to iTunes, I know I do

Hopefully something good comes out. The event will be crap if it is only about cameras on an iPod. So what?

Some tablet confirmation would go miles at a dull event like this.

Hmm. It doesn't seem like there's anything REALLY interesting to look forward too. I guess the camera in the iPod touch is exciting, but that's all. Maybe we'll see refreshes to other line ups too, even though I don't really think any of the ipods except the Touch needs a refresh.

You just made my week even more with the link. I'm a 31 years old partying right now and haven't heard that mentioned in almost 5 years from a friend. Every time I post on this board I feel like I'm talking to a 15 year old. Thanks for the link. I totally forgotten about that post and I've been reading MacRumors for a while now. All I care about is making iTunes faster with people larger than a 10,000 song library (not torrented).
