Blu ray? Social networking? Jesus lets brainstorm and think about what can we do to make that turd even more bloated.

There's bloat that slows down an application, and there are features that are lightweight and only run when you tell them to run. For instance the BluRay support will surely be part of Quicktime X, that iTunes will call as necessary. Hopefully FrontRow will also gain support (notice how FrontRow wasn't updated much with Snow Leopard - possibly it will gain a proper update tomorrow as well).

An iTunes written in Cocoa, using Snow Leopard's APIs, will feel very snappy and responsive, even as the features add up. It already incorporates webkit, so adding social networking ajax calls into the application might not be such an overhead as you expect.

everything lately with updates, announcements, has been kind of low-key/mediocre. faster phone update... under the hood updates... I don't know. Leads me to believe it's foundational for something larger.

Honestly, I think most of the people who want the Beatles on their ipod, already have them using other mechanisms. I think they are a few years late.

What would be the point of Blu-Ray support in iTunes with no Blu-Ray support for Macs? I would imagine the two announcements would come side by side and not saying "hey, Blu-Ray in iTunes... oh yea that's right Macs don't have Blu-Ray".

But, the iPod has to be better than the iPhone, so it will get a 64GB option, the same camera (or better; perhaps even with Flash), a faster processor and probably every other feature the iPhone 3GS has.

I'm going to predict that no one will be satisfied, no matter what is announced.

That said, I think we'll get new iPods, iTunes 9, new iPhone OS and a revamped app store (so people can find stuff).

A new iPhone OS won't be here until June/July. Or do you mean a 3.1 update? I could certainly see that coming soon.

Why do I have a feeling that MRlive will be down again like past 2 times? :(

I just hope that iTunes 9 will stop the skipping effect that has taken over my library since the 8.1 update.

Cinema display

When, where, if , How? The cinema display 30" and 24" are in so much need of a refresh. I don't count that abomination before man and God that they call the current 24" with its glass screen.

I can see a reason for a camera on the Touch but I'm hard pressed to see a reason for one on the Nano.
It will add to the cost in one way or another.
The Nano is a music machine first and foremost....or do people use it for photos much as well?
Just curious what you all think?

If not now, when?

Am I correct to understand that past September iPod events have also seen hardware and/or software updates to the AppleTV line? So, if the collective wisdom is that there won't be an update now, when would it occur? Isn't September through December the big home theatre push for the holidays and the return of Football?

I said it before in another post, if the AppleTV is Apple's "hobby" then it's the most neglected hobby I've ever seen. I mean c'mon, Apple has how much content available for download and they're still selling a unit with a 40GB hard drive?!?

Well, if that includes blu-ray support for itunes on Windows, I could have save myself a few bucks by not buying a blu-ray software player to use with my BD-R.

Okay, I heard from a source what the really big announcement is going to be:

New Visualizer!!!

:)

Support to Blu-ray WHO? A stillborn technology that has found little to no adoption in computers, not to mention the only-marginal advantages over traditional DVDs and slow uptake in global markets - 4.
.

Blu-ray has its purposes. I share a lot of media with family and friends & certainly don't want to be loaning my portable hard drive around. I understand why a lot of people may not find it useful, although an option to have one would be nice.

I really feel like Apple needs to make some reference to the Tablet or there is going to be an awful lot of people buying Netbooks for Christmas presents this year (including my wife for me). I could see a very boring iPod event up until the very last minute. Everyone is ready to pack it in and then Steve makes his appearance and says "one more thing" and holds up a Tablet for everyone to see and then the presentation ends. No explanation necessary. That is all it would take to blow the whole thing wide open. Just a promise of a Tablet to come. I know I am on the border of buying a Netbook now or waiting for a Tablet next year. I really need a portable device now (and I'm sorry but I refuse to pay the high price that MBP's are asking) and I especially need one before a trip I'm going on in December. But if I just have some assurance that something is coming I'd hold off.

iTunes is so lagging compared to other apps.

It's bloated, slow, complicated....

There have been no major innovations in years. Please 'trim' it down apple.

The lack of under-the-hood advancements and "major innovations" leads me to believe that iTunes is going to be completely rewritten with some killer new features. Hopefully, these improvements come with iTunes 9.

The product is being neglected, I'll give you that. But when it comes to the hard drive, I could care less about storage capacity. I currently own the 160gb version and don't even use the internal hard drive. All my movies (720p) are streamed over my wireless N network without any hiccups. I just want 1080p capabilities since I have a 1080p television.

I've learned not to over-anticipate for these events; that just leads to disappointment. However, Apple has to have something more up its sleeve than cameras. They wouldn't waste the media's time with something so lackluster. At least, I would hope not.

We aren't going to be seeing any MacBook (Pro/Air) improvements, and we won't be seeing a tablet, either. Anything like that is not going to be announced at an iPod event. I'm hoping that there's some sort of computer event next month with a new iMac, MacBook Air and a tablet.

Tablet?

Why do I have a feeling this is just going to be another waste of time? Seriously, why even bother to waste the money to host an event like this if all they are going to do is to announce some software (itune 9), or a new ring tone function on iTune store and even the new ipod touch? Apple could just as easily make an web announcement and millions people could still go ready about it. Please Apple introduce something great and new, "don't just having an event for the sake of having an event". And it's bad to get people's expectation all up in the air and deliver nothing in the end....

What ever happened to that rumor about iTunes offering a better way to organize your iPhone apps? THAT is really needed cause moving stuff around one by one on the iPhone sucks. Should be some auto sort features too, like newest, type, name, etc.

It is listed in the OP.
Still just a rumo(u)r though… ;)
iTunes 9

A report from early last month suggested that iTunes 9, likely to be introduced at tomorrow's event, will offer support for Blu-ray media, as well the ability to organize iPhone and iPod touch applications within iTunes.

My iTunes at work and at home does not feel bloated, slow, and certainly not complicated...Why does everyone think this? I have a LOT of music, podcasts, etc. and it loads instantly.

runs slow for me. cover flow is slow, album art view is painfully slow. I want album art view to work just like finder does with icons. I want to pinch zoom, and I want album art to be rendered instantly. I want it to launch instantly.

I'm needy.

Sounds like this will be a real snorefest. Apple should save some money and just issue a press release tomorrow. Wake me when it's tablet time or Verizon gets the iPhone.
