Indeed, Google can't "adopter iMessage" because of that.
But I need a piece of history. Wasn't it supposed to be Open Source ? Or was it FaceTime ? I can't remember what Steve Jobs said in his Keynote.
Both were supposed to come to Android. Then Steve Jobs died and Apple decided to scrap those plans so they could use them to lock people into the iPhone and not leave.

I believe it was FaceTime. Apple internally discussed to make iMessages cross platform a few years ago, but they never made public commitment for that AFAIK

Right... so it's the multi-platform games that do that. It isn't Sony saying Xbox needs God of War. It isn't Nintendo saying Sony needs to adopt Zelda. You're comparing WhatsApp/Signal in the mobile world, cross-plat games in vids, to exclusives.
MLB The Show is a Sony made game and it has crossplay with Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

Also we're not talking about games, we're talking about software features, which is what RCS is.

Read what I wrote again. It's not up to Apple to make it easier for Android users. If your family/friends/coworkers have difficulty viewing your messages then tell them to either get an iPhone or deal with it.
Ok flip it in reverse. I want to see a vacation photo from my boss who is an Android user. I can't. I own an iPhone.

They're all happy on Android though. So why should I suffer as an iPhone user when Apple is more than capable of adding RCS support to Messages? Kinda backwards to make your own platform less appealing and inferior to the competition isn't it?
So get an Android phone then and text them til your heart's content. I don't want a degraded user experience just because "they're happy on Android" and you're suffering.

Apple can absolutely improve SMS messaging by implementing RCS but it’d still be incompatible with and break iMessage chats if anyone in the chat is using an app/OS that doesn’t honor the encryption. Even if they do add it, Google will continue campaigning for them to “fix the green-bubbles” which would only lead to complicating if not outright eradicating privacy in iMessage. Without full and properly implemented end-to-end encryption, there’s little-to-no benefit to Apple adding RCS. If they do, Google will make them look bad regardless.

Great opportunity for Apple to campaign for RCS (or an alternative) to have full end-to-end encryption, at the very least.

I'm not buying a new phone just for one thing. The ball is in Apple's court. This is on them.

Let me explain again:

Current model you message an Android user: Message goes over SMS/MMS. Degraded experience.

New model you message an Android user: Message goes over RCS. Full resolution photos and video.

NOTHING CHANGES IPHONE TO IPHONE.

Its a added benefit. Nothing is degraded. Nothing changes from how things are now except better quality talking to Android devices.

Why is this a hard concept?

Remember that one time when Steve Jobs had to bow to Microsoft's bailout of Apple back in 1997 and Steve Jobs said Apple is a company that believes in choice?

No?

Here's a video of it:

"Since we believe in choice, we're gonna be shipping other internet browsers as well..."

LOOOOOOL, Apple's never EVER been about choice. This company has the biggest hard on for restrictions of any tech giant, EVER.

Apple is about choice. You can buy a knockoff iPhone from Samsung or HTC if you want Google to spy on you.

So Apple should make Android manufacturers happy after they stole the invention and took most of the market share from Apple’s hard work?

Comedy.

Next Apple should allow Apple Silicon on Chromebooks.

Apple should embrace a new Standard that's been in the works since 2008. RCS is a standard.

By your logic why do iPhones use SMS/MMS? It's not secure? Why does Apple allow anything but Apple devices communicate with them?

Sound ridiculous now? That's the logic being applied.

Why? SMS is not end to end encrypted. Its no change to me security wise, just makes my experience of using my phone better. You do realise you have all the same security options on Android if you chose to use them, Apples privacy angle is just a sales gimmick (and I am very pro Apple)
iMessage is, the only hole is if you enable iCloud backup. Those are encrypted, but Apple has teh key so tehy are not secure.

What changes is apple end to end security. That is not hard.

Yeah. Apple could add RCS to be another protocol in the green bubble along with SMS and MMS. If the RCS implementation is E2EE, then maybe it can transparently work with blue bubbles. Really drive home the E2EE point of blue bubbles.
