Clicking the artwork allows you to bring it into a separate window, drag your mouse over it and it will allow you to control the album; pause, play, forward, back, etc...

Looks great on a desktop, when you're listening to a whole album through. It gives you simple controls on top of the album artwork.

That is what I was trying to show in the photo.

It should be specified that we're talking about the artwork in the lower left corner. I had that hidden (useless really) so I was just clicking the album art in the hybrid list view.

What I saw is that you have excellent taste in music. (Listening to WYWH right now...) :D

To skip through music and videos?

Ah, no its reserved for switching from navigation in the store.

If it were implemented in playback, what would distinguish when you wanted say, a four finger swipe for expose Vs whatever function it would serve in iTunes?

You have a 12 core machine. You are in the extreme minority of iTunes users. Apple's only going to optimize what the majority of users are complaining about.

CD importing can only go as fast as your CD drive can read. Doesn't matter how fast your CPU is, you're limited to the speed of the drive. I imagine the # of people importing CDs is dropping fast, and those who are, don't do it enough to worry about the speed, so Apple is probably not paying much attention to that feature anymore.

Most people have 1 or 2 cores, that is all Apple is going to optimize iTunes for until that changes :)

I disagree strongly. Apple should only pay attention to the low-powered masses when designing software? That's ridiculous. You don't design, manufacture, and market your flagship machine only to have it rendered useless by your software team because you don't sell that many. You REWARD your best customers with a better product and better performance they paid for and expect. You DON'T penalize them.

And no, the speed of CD import bottleneck is not on the CD drive speed, it is on iTunes... which is EXTREMELY slow in processing the files after each track is imported. In fact, the CD drive is WAITING on the computer to finish processing before going on to the next track. As for the number of people importing CDs, first you say Apple only supports the masses, now you say Apple only supports the trends that aren't dropping. Well, guess what... until iTunes music downloads are available in Apple Lossless, those of us who care about quality will continue to buy and rip CDs, and not purchase from the iTunes Store.

To sum up, Apple should RESPECT and REWARD its customers who spend TOP DOLLAR on its FLAGSHIP PRODUCTS by upscaling their performance accordingly. In this example, that means the ones who rip CDs in Apple Lossless on multi-core machines and manage hundreds of thousands of tracks.

For years it seems people have been griping that they wished for a more "pro" look to iTunes (read: monochromatic). Now people are griping that Apple stripped out the colors and made it too gray. I don't get it.

That said, the icon does suck. Looks like something from Windows. Bleh. Fix it Apple.

In quicktime you can 2 finger swipe to seek and pinch for full screen, i can't see any reason why itunes shouldn't do the same.

Album Artwork - Click, View & CONTROL

Thanks for the clarification. I have finally got the Album Artwork click feature.

Not particularly impressed having found it, but nonetheless grateful for those who helped point it out. :)

I like the UI overall, but ping is so buggy!

Firstly, there's no proper navigation. On facebook or last.fm for example, if i want to go to the homepage/main feed I can just click either home or the fb/last logo at the top of the page. Ping has none of that. To make matters worse it's running inside the iTunes Store. So if i go to the page that displays the reviews that someone has recently published and then go and look at stuff in the Store, the only way of getting back to the Ping main feed (due to the aforementioned lack of navigation) is to go back using through all the pages I've just browsed (in both the Store and in Ping!) using either the back button or multi-touch swipes.

Also, the Ping charts and events are nowhere to be seen and content doesn't display (see pic below). Even more bizarely, i keep getting told that my Ping account has been disabled and that I should contact support

I know it's only been out for an hour but you think someone would have tested this stuff prior to release!

Careful there, your elitism is shining through.

Throwing money at a company doesn't make you any different from anyone else. I've only bought an ipod and macbook from them but I've been personally responsible for switching over a dozen people to mac, as well as selling quite a few machines in store (I happen to know a bit more than the average hipster moron they seem to like to hire).

Does that make me a "better customer" than you? No. In fact, the whole notion that you can be better at giving your money away shows how ingrained consumer culture has become in our society. Sheesh.

You don't ? I actually want it gone. I can't find an option to remove it. BTW, it'll appear the first time you click on the store.

No reason to remove it really if you do not want to use it it does not even activate. Nice to see that Apple has made it completely opt-in.

Huh? That makes no sense. It has been, and always will be, good business to reward your better customers. In fact, Apple should have a VIP Points system. Every dollar you spend with Apple should earn you a point, with different tier levels of elitism as you spend more and more. And you should also be able to get points by referring sales and converting Windows users. These points should be redeemable for store credit and exclusive Apple-branded merchandise, like elitist t-shirts.

Ever heard of the American Airlines Frequent Flyer club? You're correct, this is a consumer culture. Did this not occur to you until my post?

FLAC songs I've imported now want to play in a separate window like it's trying to play a movie. Interesting.

the grayscale absolutely sucks

I'm starting to like it.

I was surprised at first. I even went into system preferences and turned off graphite to see if that was an issue.

But after using it, I sort of like the look. There should be an option though.

My whole point was the twisted logic of consumer culture...

One is "better" than someone else because they have money to spend? What a world.

Love the greyscale. Less distraction. The new icon needs getting used to. But the old one wasn't that great either.

I have the exact same Ping problem - no photos, no videos showing up in the timeline. I want to like Ping, but I am missing the best part! Please let me know if you find a solution.

I hate the new iPhone-like icon, but I've already replaced that.
Most important thing is, many of my album covers just won't appear on the "Album List" view. They're just find on "Grid" and "Cover Flow", but they won't on the "Album List", which is the one I've always been using.
And the artist album text should have been BELOW the cover, not next to it, I can't even see the albums' names like that! :(

There are very few artists in ping that I see.

I imagine more will come on board. But that would be a game breaker if the artists ignored it.

In the meantime everyone will follow me and my great taste in music.
