No, it should be working. Just a few days ago I made backups for an iPhone 11 Pro Max and an iPhone XS Max using iTunes 12.6.5.3 on Mojave 10.14.6 (18G2022). Be sure to install the Mobile Device update, see https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...os-13-2-with-imac-and-mojave-10-14-6.2209537/
My iPhone is an iPhone 7 using iOS 12, and my iPod touch is a 5th generation running iOS 9. Do I still need the Mobile Device Update? Sounded like it was needed for newer hardware (maybe).

I should also mention that I did not install iTunes 12.6.5 using the above procedure. I did it by using a script you provided on the iTunes 12.6.5 for Catalina thread, in response to someone who asked you "do you have a script for Mojave". I then had no luck in getting iTunes to launch until I remember the part about iPod framework and copied that into the newer iTunes.

I did all of the above with SIP disabled. As per your recommendations, I also installed iTunesAccess.pkg, , using a link you provide, which I do not know the function of.

I should also mention that I did ONE sync with iTunes 12.6.5 (my first one) when I could see my previous backups and the backup was successful. But immediately after that was completed, I have since lost the ability to either see the old backups or do a successful backup. It almost looks like a permissions issue, as if iTunes 12.6 isn't allowed to see the contents of the folder where the backups are.

I suspect I should perhaps trash the iTunes 12.6.5 I installed and start again from scratch using the method on this page.

Thanks

I fixed my issue. Started thinking about permissions, checked them on iTunes 12.6 in my apps folder. I was the owner, r, w, x. Group was staff, r, w, x. Everybody was read only. Not normal for an Apple Mac OS app.

Used an app named Batchmod to change owner to System (root), group to wheel, and no changes to Everyone. Everything seems to be fine now.

This probably doesn't happen if you do a package install as per your procedure in this thread.

I'm resurrecting this topic for a method of installing iTunes 12.6 on a clean Mojave 10.14.6 install, with SIP enabled and keeping iTunes 12.9: ...

Thanks a lot @bogdanw for this wonderful and detailed instruction - I managed to install iTunes 12.6.5.3 besides 12.9.5 on macOS 10.14.6 - 👍🏻
(but it is an 1 year old installation of Mojave)

How did you organize your iTunes folder ~/Users/Music/iTunes when using two different versions of iTunes?
Are both 'iTunes Library.itl' files in the same directory?
Do both iTunes' use exactly this folder?

Additionally for some reason I cannot load new apps in the Appstore of iTunes, after klicking on 'Load' it very shortly appears to load, but immediately is interrupted again - any idea?
I am logged into my account in iTunes 12.6.5 and the MacBook Pro is authorized -

Thanks in advance for any kind of help -

Nobody is able to download new and updated apps since March 15th when Apple servers are letting to download the apps just to iTunes for windows 😟
See this thread for alternatives method

If the iTunes Library.itl is modified by iTunes 12.9, it will not be read by iTunes 12.6. You have to use separate libraries, see Use multiple iTunes libraries on Mac https://support.apple.com/guide/itunes/use-multiple-itunes-libraries-itns3259/mac
As katbel mentioned, the app problem affects everybody on macOS.

Thanks a lot @katbel & @bogdanw for your helpful answers!!

So actually I am now using iTunes 12.6.5 on Parallels/Windows (which I had already running) and I am able to load (even new, never before loaded) apps - wouh!

What an annoying shame, that over and over again wonderful working features are trashed for profit's sake ... and we users always have to spend a lot of time, to find alternative ways ... aaaargh!

Thanks again for your help!

thanks a lot for posting the news here as well -

ha ... that is really, really (!) good news, in case this news will get reality sooner or later ... 😃

What I actually don't understand is, that they need three or more weeks to get aware of this - this is absolutely incredible!

Hey all, about 2 months ago I needed to reinstall Mojave, and I then used the following method for doing an installation of iTunes 12.6.5, as per this post: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/itunes-12-6-5-not-working-in-mojave.2142646/post-28061792 the resurrected method, doing it all (after creating the iTunes.pkg) while booted from the recovery partition. Unfortunately, iTunes 12.6.5 has now reverted to syncing, but not being able to backup any devices - both an iPod touch, 5th generation (iOS9), and an iPhone 7(iOS 12). In fact, if I go into iTunes 12.6, preferences, it doesn't show my OLD backups. It all works as expected in iTunes (12.9). The FIRST time I attempted a sync with my iPhone, I received a message that the backup had failed due to error -41. All further attempts only say that "an error occurred". No number. Any ideas on what to attempt next?

Thanks for looking

Yes, we had that issue too. It was solved giving Full disk Access to iTunes in Security & Privacy settings
