Has anyone tried playing Apple's HD sample movies they put up for H.264.

Yikes, image quality is poor (compared to QT), and it lags up bad. I tried it in windowed mode and it locked up. Not good at all, I am guessing this is meant for lower quality videos, music videos maybe?

That's a bold claim. I still feel like a movie download service (especially using h.264) is a long way off and iTunes has almost become a brand in itself, similar to the iPod. I can't see them moving away from that quickly.

Not sure what you're trying to say here.

A friend of mine gave me the information, which he gets second hand, and he's not always right, but a lot of time his reliabitily is fairly good(although he has was wrong about the iBook updates that still haven't got here.).

Oops, I tried to go back and change that last part and it all came out garbled. What I was trying to say was:

There isn't anything definate about an Apple portible video playing device(like a video iPod)but there is a greater possiblity of an Airtunes for movies.

this is my problem as well. i drag a 600 mb movie into itunes, and itunes tired to copy that 600mb file into my music folder, why? it was already in my movie folder, why consolidate movies with music, what one earth is going on.

now i have disabled itunes music organizing so i can view movies. this makes no sense. this really sucks.

Why are you so surprised? This behavior is consistent with how iPhoto imports new photos and with how iTunes imports new music. Drag a jpeg file into iPhoto and the original is not erased. Drag a music file into iTunes and the original is still there. It would be very inconsistent if the movie disappeared from one's Movie folder just because it was dragged it into iTunes.

No one is saying you HAVE to use iTunes to organize your movies. Nor do you have to use iPhoto to organize movies, for that matter, although you could.

QT 7 moive playback: plays avis, goes into fullscreens using realtime resizing, NO LAG

iTunes: Does not support my .avi files, it lags, want to play a moive? it lags. want to open a movie in a window? i sincerely hope you like lag.

bottom of the line. THIS UPDATE REALLY SUCKS!!!!!!!

I'm still at work, so someone correct me if wrong. There's no video library? Just one library with video and music? If so looks like I'll stay with iTunes 4.7.1.

Did you check the requirements for the HD samples Apple put up? Your system does not meet the requirements.

I don't really know why you seem to to believe this will lead to the ultimate iPod Video. Who wants to watch video on a 2 inch screen? Something bigger wouldn't be portable. I see this as more of a home media center type of deal that you can stream your video to where ever.... :)

At the moment itunes is the only free software apple is providing that allow fullscreen movie playback and movie organization.

no i dont have the use itunes for moive playback, but what else is apple offering for free?

apple please rather make fullscreen playback in QT free, or fix this mess you call "iTunes"

Sync ipod with isync disabled?

A question for those who have installed 4.8.

I like syncing my ipod in isync, because i can sync all my difference devices simultaneously. Now that 4.8 offers ipod syncing in itunes do you lose the ability to sync it with isync or can you still do that too?

Thanks

Thanks for eliminating the need for iSync :) No more finding that my latest Contacts changes aren't on my iPod!

And I found a great workaround for the features missing from the new movie support: Don't use movies in iTunes.

It's not an advertised feature. Enjoy it if it's useful, or wait and see :) This is a minor +.1 update--and not measured by Apple's "X" naming ;)

BTW, iPhoto plays the .AVIs from my camera, so if you want AVIs in iTunes, there's hope.

Maybe true, but I was satisfied with the way they ran in Quicktime 7, perfectly smooth. Now, not so much.

Exactly, think streaming(and or course playing back on the computer, like a mini in the living room).

As this is still iTunes I see a future where songs downloaded from the music store have music videos attached (the song is in essence a movie file with a high quality sound track.)

I tend to agree with this. Personally, I can't see a video iPod at any stage in the near future, but to be able to play music videos on my iBook while transferring just the audio track to my regular iPod would be awesome.

When I launch iSync after installing iTunes 4.8, I get the following error:

"iPod:
You no longer synchronize information on an iPod using iSync. Instead, use iTunes."

This isn't good. I have my iPod linked to my Windows PC desktop at home. Occasionally, I plug it into my PowerBook to sync my contacts and iCals using iSync. Looks like I won't be able to do that anymore.

Dang!

Normal h.264 QT movies will play back just fine on your system, perfectly smooth.

It's just the high definition ones that need more processing power.

As for this, I doubt it's for movies. Apple would create a new shinier app for a Movies store. I'd guess it's got more to do with music videos - with a minor chance for the Airtunes audio/video (but again I'd think a different app since you're not going to watch a DVD through iTunes!)

Of course there's always AirFoil if you don't feel like waiting.

If you think your PowerBook plays HD video in H.264 perfectly smooth, you need your eyes checked. Maybe it runs them acceptable enough for you, as they do playback "okay" on my similar setup. However, "smooth" is definitely not the word.

PowerBook 15-inch

Not seeing it. I've tried two movies, and it just played the audio. Eh?

EDIT: Sometimes my own stupidity amazes me. I haven't updated yet. Someone smack me.

itunes now displays song artwork from shared computer

itunes now displays artwork playing from a song on a remote itunes share!

This isnt cool, there should be an option in itunes to disable contact/cal syncing and to sync via isync instead. I guess i wont be installing 4.8 then.
