Rather than an outlet for repurposing what is essentially talk radio, maybe Podcasting should develop its own -- and different -- class of content.
I've always thought it would be a great idea to fill in the gaps of television shows with mini web-episodes that feature a side story with minor characters; I would much rather listen to a podcast short of a conversation between two of the "Desperate Housewives" than recycled "SportsCenter."
LOL. Now we just need better content.fomoco said:Video Podcasts - Check out "Tiki Bar TV" in the ITMS. This is the future...
That's up to the BBC. They seem to be in love with RealAudiojhomayne said:Is there any chance of some more UK-centric podcasts? Radio 1? 6 Music would be great!
Yup, that's a big annoyance. I didn't like the fact that it takes the user to the download window the moment the 'Subscribe' button is clicked - it doesn't provide an easily visible way to get back to the previous screen with the list of podcasts, which may have been the result of a search. Nevertheless, I found that double clicking on the purple podcasts icon brings a new window with the list of podcasts (or search results, as the case may be) - and then you have two windows, one with the downloads and the other with the list of podcasts.Stella said:When you subscribe you are taken back to the subscription podcast list - so if you want to subscribe to multiple podcasts, you have to go back to the Podcast listings again. You can not subscribe to many at once - even though you can select many - when you click on subscribe button it only subscribes to the associated podcast. . Makes it a bit awkward.
mxpiazza said:do you really think that the podcasting interface on iTunes will be enough to encourage people to want to listen to podcasts, want to obtain them through iTunes, and want to buy an iPod to listen to them...? i think Apple is banking on a lot, here, if its putting all of its eggs in this basket, at least for this iTunes/iPod refresh.
syclone said:No, Apple wants people who go to use iTunes and the Music Store to browse for Podcasts to have an enjoyable experience. Then word will spread and people will start using iTunes instead of whatever other software. Eventually, when file sharing starts to die out after the recent supreme court decision, all these people will already have iTunes which they were using to organize free Podcasts. Soon, they will start buying musinc from the iTMS since they can't pirate it anymore and Apple will make a lot more money there and maybe even stop making iPods altogether.
I wonder why the U2 iPod is thinner (0.57") than the regular 20G iPod (0.63"). Typo in the specs page?manu chao said:Yap, the 'new' 20GB model is now .06" (0.63" vs. 0.57") or 1.5 mm thicker than the old 4G 20GB iPod, so in size we are back to the 3Gs roughly (don't know the exact figure). They are still 4Gs (plus colour screen and physically bigger battery) but not with a better power management as the 2G Minis were.

The 3rd Generation iPod remains at 2.3, which is a shame. I can use podcasts, but they're lumped together with my music. Doesn't really help.feakbeak said:The Apple download page for the iPod Updater shows the 3rd Gen iPod now at software version 2.3. I don't know what it was before so I can't say if it is new.
Personally, I had to update my 4th Gen iPod from 3.02 to 3.1 with today's updater.
it seems that they are running a trial at the moment.iMeowbot said:That's up to the BBC. They seem to be in love with RealAudio![]()
