Have you listend to Adam Currys podcast? Its far from boring.

Why would anyone, especially mac fans, write off something new like podcasting as "boring" or "annoying as hell" with out even listening to it, I dont get it.

I don't understand how "mac fans" particularly enter this equation.
Two of the three examples given were boring/annoying given the stage they were being presented. On the whole, a lot of spoken word podcasts I've listened to don't hold my interest. Maybe I haven't heard a show yet that compels me to listen for more than 5 minutes.

I've given the format a shot, and I pass.

P.S. Coincidentally, I use a Mac from time to time.

Since I'm having trouble with iPodder, this is great news for me. The podcasting concept is excellent, an inevitable pendulum shift from commercial radio, and I applaud Apple for jumping on this early and in a way that's going to make it easy to do. "Feature bloat"? Hardly. Soon-to-be essential tool, I say, and better to have to keep iTunes and the iPod on top.

My comment about Mac fans refers to how most people use Windows just because they have never tried OSX.

Myabe its just me but as a Mac user I believe we should give any new technology like podcasting a try or else we run the risk of missing out on something great.

So your assessment of podcast content is based on the crowds reaction to a few second demo during WWDC 2005? wow thats crazy.

by the way, im not sure what presentation you were watching but in the 2005 WWDC streaming on apple.com people actually cheered when Jobs played Adam Currys podcast. cheers and clapping dont equal boring/annoying

What he was saying is that listening to the podcast while Jobs was supposed to be talking about the mactel was boring/annoying. And Steve did stop playback on it after Curry cursed (I forget what he said)

Overall, it's another little gimmik that will help sell more iPods, and will probably never be used (just like how I use my party shuffle so much)

And MacPhreak's podcasts are freakin great!

Well, no, and no.

No, I don't let a crowd's reaction to a scant few podcasts determine my view on something. I've tried dozens of podcasts over the past year, and I can't say I have found anything that garners my interest. I get my news from RSS feeds and other websites. As far as spoken word entertainment goes, I think there is much more excitement on terrestial radio. I have the same reaction as Jobs did to both of the podcasts he grabbed out of iTunes.

Maybe replay that keynote again. Those may have been cheers at first, but listening to the actual content did NOT envoke any cheers. Mr. Jobs' fained enthusiasm drew a laugh however.

Again, I think iTunes will garner some more interest from me when video/picture support someday gets built in to the product.

Bring it on.

I can't wait for the day that podcasts are organized like the itunes music store and can suggest which ipod casts I might like. Everyone's tastes vary and mine do every week. Until then, I simply cannot be troubled to go and try out fifty links just because someone said it was great. I'm not going to point fingers but when someone says something is good he could mean good country, good death metal, never good rush limbaugh, or god forbid goody goody fundamentalist laura slesinger.

Perhaps the big feature in iTunes5 will be the ability to copy audio CDs without jumping through ridiculous hoops. :D

Or perhaps they'll wait for the Finder to be fixed first.

its awfully shortsighted to call podcasting a gimmick, I believe its going to be a great vehicle for broadcasting a show outside of the established terrestrial and satellite market, but thats only my opinion, only time will tell.

Think it is the TEXT that displays info about the song.....artist, album, title etc.
OK, I think I got it ... the info on the CD that makes the artist and song show up if you play it on a CD player with a display.

Yeah, why doesn't iTunes write that? That seems like a must-have feature.

(This reminds me that I must burn some CDs with the music I bought from iTMS. It will be my first music CD burn, ever, actually )

Party Shuffle

Honestly, what is wrong with party shuffle? I use it everyday. COME ON. Explain it to me, you sarcastic mf.

Podcasting should be fun

hi,

I think this is going to be a fantastic feature. I was about to dload Ipodder, but will not wait. I'm a stay-at-home parent who doesn't have the time to listen to certain news or radio shows so having it available and automatic will be awesome. Then, I can choose to listen when I can.

I disagree with those who think this will be a fad. I think it's simply reflective of how our society is going - we want what we want, when we want. simple as pie. I've already seen how PVRs and DVD box sets are changing the way people watch TV...I foresee IPods continuing to have the same effect.

go podcasting go!

In my particular case...

I have "loop-1" (repeat only the currently playing song) turned on for my library and all of my playlists. I also keep the shuffle option turned off, as well as the equalizer. If I don't ever shuffle, what's the point of using Party Shuffle?

so you listen to the same song over and over? or am i missing something here??

(not directed to you wrldwzrd):

why some people feel the need to let their own use or non use of any particular feature decide that the feature is useless to all is beyond me. i don't use every feature of itunes either, but as long as a good number of people do, then fine...

I pick one song, listen to it several times, then switch to something else, listen to it several times, repeat until bored.

How so? Podcasts are just really like Tivo-d radio programs. I despise them. I have no desire to listen to a 30 minute spiel when I can read the same info in less than 5.

Granted it is good for those who commute on the train or carpool, or something like that - but I just don't see podcasts as anything more than a fad.

Ok, your entitled to your opinion. I don't see podcasting as a fad however, I think its many people's way of tell large bureaucratic corporate broadcasters that there is a faster, cheaper and sometimes better way to receive information. The cool thing is that many are MP3's that will work on any player or computer.

I'm sure that you are concerned about the quality and content of some of these amateur podcasts, but there a lot of professionally created podcasts out there such as ones from CNN,Newsweek,The Washington Post, BBC etc.- that means that a lot of traditional broadcasters are get involved in podcasting as they have discovered this as a new medium for listeners to get their information.

Here is what will really make you spit nails, this type of downloading media from the internet might migrate to TV as well. Instead of broadcast, cable or satellite, you might be getting your programming off the internet.

Take for example, an old TV show, or movie that you wanted to watch. Its not on pay-per-view or at your local video rental store. What do you do? You could download it from the internet to your media center computer, and stream it to your home theater, and it would most likely be a high quality digital recording.

IPTV and podcasting is the future.

I just hope that iTunes 4.9 has content in bookmarkable AAC format(.mp4b).

This has been my $5.00. :D

For a great podcast checkout TWiT, http://www.thisweekintech.com and for some fun with the gray area of technology and video (IPTV) content, check out Kevin Rose's (former TechTV host) new site http://www.systm.org :)

Why do you say that it's sad. What method do you prefer for listening to music? I usually download new music, listen to it five times and then move on to the next. Also have a large collection of CD's, play them in order and then return to the beginning of my collection again.

Why is that sad? Sometimes, I'll listen to a song over and over, then move on. Other times, I'll randomize my collection so I don't know what I'll be listening to.

There are many different styles of music out there which some people love and some people hate - but it's a personal preference, and music is a very personal thing - as a result, that doesn't make liking a certain genre "right or wrong". The same goes with how people listen to their music - it's a very personal thing, and I don't think you can say one listener's preferred method is "sad" just because it differs from your method.
