Hardcore PC gamers will be rocking 120Hz in no time.

My sound system is the Yamaha YSP-2500 7.1 sound projector. I know some people here frown on soundbars but it’s exceptionally good. It wasn’t what I had planned to buy but after an accidental demo in Richers Sound it was an instant buy. What is your setup?

You mentioned 4k and 8k Red Bull videos earlier and it escaped my mind. I will download the app today and give it a shot today. It’s a shame hardly any gadget or car reviews I watch you YouTube are available on Vimeo.

While there are many 4K streamers on the market, the ATV has blind sided all of them with a wealth of UHD HDR titles Available to rent out of the box. I wonder what 4K movie options Fire 4K owners have.

That is a BRILLIANT sound bar. What HiFi said it was the best of the best. Sounds incredible! Yes, that happens at Richer Sounds. A friend of mine walked in there to check out BlueTooth speakers and walked out with the Naim MuZo one :) He was so excited as it was his first time sound system (apart from in his car).
VIMEO is amazing and I love how ATV has supported it from ATV2. I've bought 4K Red Bull / The Orchard films from it over the last 2 years. Vimeo are amazing to deal with too. Sadly the UK Pound to the Dollar has stopped me from buying on it now as the prices have riser and I find it cheaper on iTunes now. BUT Vimeo is DRM free so I can give a copy to a friend. BUT iTunes has the nice artwork and probably better compression.
I have the Panasonic EX700 TV at the moment - I'm not a big viewer - a film once a week with friends and maybe a YouTube blog over a late dinner :) I tend to do more things on my MacBook which is why the ATV is perfect 100% for me :) Plus I live in another city on a weekend and sign into a friend's ATV and my films appear if we all want to watch a film late on a Saturday night :)
For me, ATV suits my Apple lifestyle big time. I have WSL World Surf League on it too along with Red Bull TV, Vimeo, MUBI, YouTube - it's perfect! It replaced satellite TV for me over 1 day & that was 7 years ago! Never looked back :)

the mere fact you can sign in and access your itunes stuff on someone else's atv is mindblowing when you think about it

imagine carrying round your music and video collection to your mates house instead ??

hang on i'll be there once i've loaded up the boot / trunk

I know Mr George. It's brilliant! We stayed in a ski chalet last Christmas in France and guess what? The home cinema room has Apple TV. I signed in and WOWZER all of my films plus we could all AirPlay to it. Just amazing!!!
A friend of mine has bought a house over in Spain. They are planning on living 6 months there, 6 months here. I told them to get a Apple TV box for their Spanish villa then everything they have on iTunes will follow them. BRILLIANT!

While ATV 4k is inferior to 4k disc, how do ATV 4k titles compare to HD disc? Clarity, black levels, artifacts, depth, color, etc?

Hi Randian, you know, I get the impression when humans over analyse anything, we stop enjoying and appreciating what we have. Being honest, I'm quite a perfectionist with everything in life, but when I enjoy a film, I don't look out for artefacts and if black could be blacker. I only have a 40" TV which is what I wanted. I'm not a fan of big TVs. And I know the market has gone to big TVs. But for me, 40" was the sweet spot. I get the impression that it's the 65" TVs upwards that are showing artefacts, problems in the film more. Maybe that's not good, maybe that takes anyway the enjoyment. But anyway, to my young eyes without glasses, the 4K iTunes films look amazing but it'll be interesting to see what the more frequent Tv watchers have to say on the topic :)
[doublepost=1512337554][/doublepost]Also Randian, for me, having that really great quality with the fact that I can watch a bit of a film on my MacBook Retina with an espresso in bed on a Saturday morning or catch a film on my iPhone X whilst on the Eurostar and then watch it in 4K HDR on my ATV 4K at home or at friend's around the world far far far far far outweighs having a 4K BluRay disc that can only be watched on a special player that not many people have or if the machines become rare in a few years due to lack of sales, a disc collection that is worthless.
After having the niceness of iPhones, MacBooks and libraries on iTunes, that's the way i've decided to go. It suits my travel lifestyle. And it's stress free.

PS I'm one of those crazy guys, much to the horror of my friends, that can sit down with a espresso and watch my favourite 5 minute part of a film and then switch it off when i've had my coffee :)

I have compared an identical ATV 4K and HD Blu-ray movie. The 4K copy is a generation ahead, lots more of the frame is in focus, less grain, colours are more accurate, black levels better and 60hz makes the footage more fluid.

It’s like comparing VHS and DVD or DVD and Blu-ray.

Just watched Despicable Me in dolby vision and the colours on this film are just superb, a fantastic visual treat and was not expecting too much from this for some reason but every scene pops.

Is despicable me worth a purchase.
I’m enjoying my varied slowly growing movie library.
Everest
Prometheus
The House
The Prodigy-worlds on fire!

Agreed! The movies are incredible. Truth be told, it was the final kick I needed to upgrade my TV. I went from a bargain bin Vizio E Series I bought in 2012, to Sony 75" XBR75X940E... The first time I played a movie in 4K (Everest), I was left with my mouth agape.

The ability to pause on one TV and resume on another Apple TV, is just insanely convenient. I know Plex App does that, but now I needn't worry about storing ~ 65GB per movie on my server.

BTW Everest is one of those movies, where Dolby Atmos can be felt to it's full potential. Especially the snowstorm feels really like embracing you!
It's also featured on the original Dolby Atmos demo-disc.

Awesome Prilitv8 so we need Apple to launch Dolby Atmos on the ATV now :) They are taking their time even with their thousands of staff, so there must be a few problems to iron out.
PS How will iTunes work? Will they need to get Atmos titles?

OUCCCCCHHH 65GB per film - That's insanity isn't it :) Yes, I love the way it remembers where I left off with the film. I watch my favourite 5 minutes of a film during espresso time :) :) :) Then I can do the same on my MacBook on a Saturday morning. I love that!
Everest is not in 4K yet on iTunes in the UK, so when it is, I guess that it'l be even more incredible:) That's amazing about your SONY. 75" and an iTunes film still looks great? WOW, now that truly shows the quality as I thought that a 75/77" TV would show every artefact. INCREDIBLE!!! And there's me thinking that a 55" is HUGE :) To me, my 40" TV is large :) :) :) :) :) TV size really depends on the room doesn't it. What I mean by that is, we have some Scandinavian style architect build houses near us and they are gorgeous. They have large screens 65" on their walls in the lounges and they seem to fit in very well with the modernity :)
I have a BO Concept low level (28cm high) Danish unit and the TV sits very nicely on it.
I'll be very excite with Everest gets its 4K release :)
There's a new Bjorn Borg vs McEnroe film coming to iTunes in the UK this January (USA later) and I hope that gets the 4K treatment :)
Delighted to see the cycle comedy 'Tour de Pharmacy' show in iTunes last night. Can't wait to watch it :)

What do you mean exactly? I think none of the current offerings in the store carry Atmos. Only the ones declared to have DD+7.1 soundtrack can technically do that, to begin with. Most movies in my store still show good 'ol DD5.1 and that is no go for Atmos.

TV size vs picture detail comes down to one, only one thing - viewing distance.
Technically to Angular resolution or spatial resolution of human eye, to be precise.
Knowing the angular resolution of the eye and the width of your screen's pixel, you can easily calculate the farthest distance where you can still discern between two neighboring pixels.
Main difference between any FHD and UHD screen of same size is that UHD has pixels half that large in both directions.

Yes, that's exactly what I thought so there's a lot of work to be done in the iTunes store / film distributors / remastering etc with regards to Atmos. Could explain why ATV 4K as yet does not have it :'(

65GB is nuts. I have over 1000 movies, my 4k collection is growing, and not a single one is even half that size. There is no reason for them to be that size.

You can do that with plex as well. The added advantage is plex is available on everything so your chances are the place your at will have something that supports it. The downside is your computer needs to be on at home. I leave my on 24/7 so it's a non issue.

If you have a good upscaler in your streaming device or TV you likely won't see a difference at all. I can't on my LG. Not unless I get really close.

What TV and bluray player do you have? When watching a movie I curl up 1.5-2 meters infront of my 49 inch TV to take in all the glorious detail that 4K offer. When I am not watching a movie I sit almost twice that distance away.

LG OLED 65", Oppo 203. About the best you can get. Resolution wise I don't see much difference from a bluray to a UHD. Both look great. HDR is the game changer.
You're sitting pretty damn close. At that distance I can see a difference but it's minor.

My typical viewing distance is about twice that. About 12'. Or 3.7 meters to you.

I have an LG OLED B7 and use the built in Netflix app. Am I missing out on anything by not having the Apple TV 4K? I get Dolby Vision via the Netflix app so not sure why I should get any other device at this point?

Unless you already have a bunch of iTunes movies purchased there's really no point. You can watch 4K Dolby Vision content on your built in Netflix app, and you can rent 4K Dolby Vision movies from the Vudu app.

Well after reading some strong hate for Terminator 2 4K online I must say after watching the iTunes remaster tonight i really enjoyed it. Film grain has annoyingly been removed but I prefer the colour grading and the black levels are very impressive, sharpness is very evident throughout with out too much waxy skin effects and this is the better version I have seen although still not perfect due to grain removal. Worth a buy

that's what I thought, thx. Any other apps aside from Vudu to rent Dolby Vision or is that the only one?

You are sitting at the far end! For UHD and 49" screen, you could be sitting at 0,9-1,5m.

Hi buddy. Nice TV :) It depends i'm biased as I use ATV for everything. Do you have a Mac / iPhone? Do you buy film? If so, if you like streaming then yes, iTunes for film in Dolby Vision is pretty incredible to rent or to buy. I love extreme sport so for me, its incredible that ATV has Red Bull TV and WSL World Surf League plus i've got loads of HD video - surfing, blogs, travel on my MacBook / iPhone that I watch on the ATV via Home Sharing & Airplay. Plus i love viewing my photos on it too and all of my music :)

Sounds great buddy BUT the amount of guys on here that complain about too much film grain in 4K so I guess Apple can't win on this. HEVC tends to over exaggerate film grain compared to h264, so I guess the film grain removal process was needed in the remastering.

Just seen that you have the incredible iPhone X - that would work really well with the ATV.
