Roy,

I see you just signed up today (Could be an Apple insider)...

Why do you say this is by design? I just went through and deleted all my old versions of apps, so hopefully that was ok.

Hey I'm not sure if this was already on the iTunes store, and I just realized it. But we can now view apps by Release Date finally!

Okay, I'm going to trust you guys. But, the last three "updates" to iTunes totally screwed me. A lot of the movies I ripped won't play, even though they did pre-"update." I imagine they still won't...

Here goes nothin'.

Doesn't sound like iTunes is really designed for you.

Ok,

Well i Tunes 7.7.1 has passed my first test of uninstalling three apps off of my iPhone 3G. I have now installed the updates through iTunes, and am going to try to sync them over to my phone now.

(I know this seems like something that should work all of the time and all, but these are the simple things I could not do before... I have been having to restore my iPhone at least twice a day, three times last night alone!)

EDIT: It is safe to say that uninstalling and installing applications on my iPhone actually works now. I don't know if it is the new iTunes version or not, but all I know is I could not do this before when I had so many applications on my iPhone. It was like iTunes was confused as to where to install the applications after a while, and everything would freeze up.

- 7.7.1 now correctly masks app icons in iTunes. All apps now have rounded corners.

- The Get Info window of apps now correctly displays the version of the app.

This is by design.

:apple:

 Why though? It would end up taking more space (than is needed by these apps) by having every version of an app in that folder.

Oh & the update system is working finally. Showing all the updates that already showed up on my iPod Touch

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5A347 Safari/525.20)

don't complain about taking too much on backup process. It is nothing to do with iPhone OS. Until new update will be shown off, we have to wait. New iTunes won't improve phone or touch sync.

This is not true... Yelp is still showing off its square logo in iTunes.

I guess maybe to install a past version? But the design of this is really bad if thats their purpose.

All's well that ends well...

updated versions of apps still doesn't delete older versions. i hope this isn't by design.

In Finder, look in the mobile apps folder in your itunes folder.

Yeah, I discovered that last night. I was feeling mega-tidy, deleted all the duplicates and THEN I realized they were the newest versions of the apps. Nothing, even Time Machine couldn't help me--I had to remove everything, restore, and download all my free apps again, vowing not to get that tidy feeling again :(

For some different reason  a few apps (AIM) though I know iTunes and my phone have the newest versions, the Get Info panel still shows v. 1.0.

Stumped about that--but in better news, finally got a manufacturing-defect-free phone today (4th time was the charm :D )

Mobileme goodness in 7.7.1

It appears the new itunes update (7.7.1) has snuck in some mobileme goodness. I have noticed so far that changes I make on the website now populate to my outlook 2007.

Also there is an enhanced conflict resolution feature, where if there are conflicts of items such as you have the same item on one calendar work, and the same item on your home calendar it will prompt you with a screen to choose which one it should be.

Gee too bad they couldn't have had all of this at launch... before it decided to delete my calendars...

Updated to 7.7.1 .. noticed that all the apps icons are rounded now (like everyone else said).. plugged in my iphone.. started the back-up process.. took the same amount of time.. it still does that thing where if u deleted an app on your phone but not on your itune..it reinstalls the app back onto your phone (pretty annoying) .. once it's done synching.. it automatically restarted my phone... .. .. thats pretty much my 7.7.1 experience.

snapier indeed

my iPhone feels snapier just reading about the update ;)

It would so uncool if this somehow prevented loading Pwnage .ipsw files

Accented characters

Hopefully this will solve the bug that was apparently introduced in 7.7 in which, upon playing, song titles (and artist names, etc.) with accented and other characters (é, ü, õ, and so on) have these characters replaced with other characters or, occasionally, nonsense.

Quite unfortunate since many of my favorite bands sing in Spanish. :)

I think it's funny anytime I see someone complaining about this... you do realize that it does this because YOU told it to do this?

In iTunes, under the Applications tab (when your iPhone is plugged in) if you have the "Sync All Applications" checked, it will do just that, sync all applications in your iTunes to your iPhone. If you do not want it to do that, then choose "Selected Applications" and uncheck the one you no longer want synced to your iPhone.

The problem where it would not let you eject cd's until you quit iTunes seems to be fixed (atleast in the 1 test i did).

iPod Touch fixed

I can CONFIRM that this update fixes the syncing issues that would freeze up iTunes for 15+ minutes when syncing a 32GB ipod Touch. Now it only freezes for about a second then syncs! Thank god.

Locked mine up...

The new update shut my iphone down into the apple start-up screen. It is a screen I have become quite familiar as of late.

11 restores in 15 days. I am about to go back to my old iPhone. This is not some little piece of gadgetry, it is my freaking telephone and i am self employed so it also my livelihood. I am sick of it. Can I bring this in and tell them I want a new one?

I've never, ever had a problem with an Apple product I have been a mac user since 2002. This is just terrible.

*fyi - I now run NO apps to try and fix this problem and it still happens.

so can we just delete all the older version of Apps by ourself?

Apple!! this kind of wasting space design is pretty stupid!

No. AIM still says it's 1.0.

Some apps do show correctly, not all.

I will say that iTunes no longer beachballs for a minute when I first launch it with my phone attached. It's super quick again.
