you must have been a great person in your past life. you are blessed.

jk, good to hear that some people are having positive experiences.

7.7.1 made a big difference to my Touch. The last 4 mornings when I plugged it into my desktop it would take about 8.5 minutes to mount in iTunes with 7.7.0. This morning after the upgrade it took less than 20 seconds.

hm..after this update it keeps asking at every iTunes startup if it shall accept incoming connections. It started doing that with the last version and I (as others) could solve it with downloading it from the Apple website and re-installing it. But this time it doesn't work like this. I already tried a few other things which helped at even older versions. No success yet.

And don't ask why I am starting iTunes every day. I am one of those who are shutting down their Mac in the evenings. It's just anoying and really shoudn't happen this way!

I am stilling having problems with iTunes. The Applications folder shows 2 updates available and when I see the updates there are 17. Even after updating them there are still 17 updates. I still cannot install all the updates at once as it states that my itunes credit need refreshing, even after I log out of the store and back in again. As for syncing, its still as slow as hell (10 Apps takes about 15-20 minutes to sync).

Okay, this is the only post I've seen from someone who had issues very similar to mine. I got that "credit balance" error, too, and couldn't do anything to clear it, until I said screw it and bought a song. That took care of that, and afterward, iTunes sailed through all available app updates. BEFORE I tried that fix, though, when I initially plugged the phone in after the update to 7.7.1., it did the strangest sync I've ever experienced. The only indicators of activity were the iTunes "downloading icon" (dual arrows in a spinning disc) and my PC hard drive working. There was nothing at all in the Status bar in iTunes. Stayed that way for 15-20 minutes, then began giving me the normal messages we see during syncing. Sync finished up normally, I removed and reseated the iPhone to check backup speed, and it was actually somewhat faster, though not significantly. My backups average 60-90 seconds, I only have about 25 apps installed. Nothing disappeared, no icons got rearranged on the phone. I didn't have time to do app version comparisons, since I was already running late by then. I have to say it's very, very strange how so many people are having such a huge variety of problems with the iPhone 3G and/or the "new" iTunes generally, and then there are those who are apparently having virtually no problems whatsoever. I think this is the last time I play first adopter.

I for one don't have a problem with this behavior of keeping both old and new versions as they don't seem to take up much space on my Mac, but the REST of the bugginess of the program is completely unacceptable as I stated above in great detail and is a complete pain.

The current state of iTunes to me acts like a typical buggy Windows program, not what I expect from Apple. I would suggest getting back to work and not wasting your time posting on rumor & discussion forums.

This update is a joke, both iTunes 7.7 AND 7.7.1 :(

It's amazing how machine specific these so-called 'bugs' are. I've got an old PowerMac updated to 1.8GHz 7448 and 1.5GB of ram and I have had no problems with iTunes ever, really (except when I tried to sync using either a powered or unpowered hub, which caused ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS so please make sure you are all using direct ports off your USB 2.x bus when you sync or you will be sitting there for hours). I've got an iPod Touch updated to 2.0 with over a half dozen apps installed, an iPod Nano 3rd generation and two Apple TV units and run both Tiger and Leopard with iTunes using the same single library from both operating systems. It takes about 2 minutes to backup the iPod Touch and about an hour to load the full 12GB of data onto it if I do a fresh sync (I've been using Tiger to sync so its USB is probably slower than in Leopard, which seems to have faster USB 2.0 support). I had to do a fresh backup restore and sync when I tried to use those hubs to connect the iPod Touch as it appeared to have a lot of problem with hubs, but has worked 100% reliably since I've connected the sync cable to a card port on the back of the Mac.

I also don't lose my AppleTV units in iTunes and never have save a couple of times where I've interrupted something from the AppleTV itself while iTunes was transmitting to one of them in which case exiting and restarting iTunes brought it right back.

So I figure either iTunes for Intel is way buggier than the PPC versions to hear all these complaints about how buggy and slow it is or you guys are using hubs or something to sync with and that's causing your problems.

I think it's funny anytime I see someone complaining about this... you do realize that it does this because YOU told it to do this?

In iTunes, under the Applications tab (when your iPhone is plugged in) if you have the "Sync All Applications" checked, it will do just that, sync all applications in your iTunes to your iPhone. If you do not want it to do that, then choose "Selected Applications" and uncheck the one you no longer want synced to your iPhone.

Doesn't "sync" mean that if you delete an app from the iPhone, iTunes would also delete the app when you sync? That's how Address Book, Calendar, Bookmarks, etc work when they are Sync'd via MobileMe.

So Far Its Great!

:)Ok guys, did the update, and, one thing i did that i think it was different from everyone else is that i turned on iTunes and let it on for a few seconds, maybe a minute before plugging my iPhone 3G.

iPhone backup was faster than ever. So my experience with the update is great so far.:apple::eek:

Good Luck To All!!!

Not backing up?

So I'm on my third try to get iTunes to backup my iPhone. The first 2 times it finished the backup maybe in 2-3 hours each, but iTunes didn't save it. I checked the iTunes Preferences --> Syncing tab and it still shows the old backup date.

Can anyone confirm that a successful current backup is being made and iTunes is ACTUALLY SAVING THE BACKUP and being displayed as current in the Syncing tab in iTunes Preferences?

I've never had so many problems with Apple until the App Store and iTunes 7.7.x.

Where's Roy?

BTW, where's Roy? Disappearing act all of a sudden. Figures!!! OHH well , just another day at work, NOOOOOT!!!!:D

You know what bugs me about iTunes? The status window. It's black text on a green background. I think this was originally supposed to mimick the 1G ipod screen.

Shouldn't it at LEAST be blue & white?

Take heart, I just installed 7.7.1 and everything works great. Very seamless install. I did a safe reboot, then booted again prior to the install, just in case...

Faster 3G iPhone Backups for me with 7.7.1

I am happy to report that with 7.7.1 by backup times have dropped from 10+ minutes down to about 1 minute like it was prior to 2.0 on my original iPhone. (I've still got the same dozen or so apps on the phone)

Of course the first sync failed.

I also noticed that there were 7 updated apps available now - so either 7.7 wasn't showing them or Apple did a big update of the apps on Thursday PST.

Trying a new sync having removed 3 apps and the 7 updates....and...drum roll...SUCCESS...almost...

Cro-Mag didn't re-install at first, but a 2nd sync got it updated.

:)

I lost my NYTimes app, and it won't reinstall it. :(

I've tried on the phone and on iTunes, and it keeps giving me an error. Too bad that's an app I use all the time, instead of a flashlight/free game app.
Well, I seem to have fixed this, so the update is now bug-free for me (knock wood).

Update - My Apps showed as requiring updates. After updating, my screen went back to white - weird !?

I am getting peed off with this. Itunes Applications states there are 4 updates. Click to see them and it lists 16 updates. Most of them are the same version that I have already. I have to update them all to ensure I get the 4. Ridiculous.

yeah mine say 1 update ready I hit that it shows 16 apps that have updates, then I hit download all new updates then I do that and it downloads and installs on my phone then it still shows I need 16 updates I have restarted my computer and everything still shows I need 16 updates that I allready downloaded and installed.........this sucks ...... But my backup times are around 2 minutes instead of 25 minutes

I don't believe this will fix the iPhone sluggish performance of late. Probably 2.1 will fix it.

It can't be my imagination -- my iPhone has now lost that annoying hesitation whenever I interact with it. It used to pause when I touched a contact's name, for example. Now it's as responsive as my old Touch used to be.

Edit: I spoke too soon; the hesitation is back, but not as pronounced as before. :(
