Yeah, the iTunes engineers appear to have had their heads shoved up their collective arses when they were working on the video feature. Since we can't change the video type for purchased music videos I have just created a smart playlist with Video Kind = Music Video and named it so it appears at the top of my playlist list. I hope the new version of Front Row doesn't suffer from the same jackassery.

Thanks for the post, didn't think to do that. After reading your advice, I actually did this on my Powerbook (created a smart playlist called Music Videos) and then noticed there were TWO lists with that name. I was sure I didn't create it twice, so I went to my Power Mac (which I hadn't opened yet since updating) and lo and behold, iTunes 7 by default apparently already has a smart playlist called "Music Videos" (at least if you already have music videos in your library). I have 11 smart playlists I created myself, so I didn't notice the new one in there. Was this not the case with you? Maybe it's just the US version, for some reason?

So to summarize, it appears that instead of having a separate category for Music Videos under "Library", Apple made a smart playlist called "Music Videos" that music videos go under. Seems like it was just tacked on at the last minute as an afterthought, otherwise why wouldn't they have just put this under "Library"?!

It's now a PLAYLIST

Ehhhh :( Overall I like the update....but not the music videos....which happened to be the biggest selling point for videos when the iPod (video) was released. It should have it's own section for music videos in with movies, music and the others in library.....not just a playlist.

Repair your permissions before and after each install. Mine did some correction to iTunes framework.
I have repaired permissions. I also ran a full memtest and everything passed. Still crashes.

Gah!! This gapless playback thing is annoying me. I upgraded as soon as the keynote finished and it's still analysing my library (37825 songs). What's it even for?!

It is automatically looking for tracks that flow together, and piecing them together. Most of my stuff has already been "gaplessed" for me.

For gods sake, what a bunch of whiners.

It's a neat sleek user interface and I really like the changes. It looks less cluttered, and more importantly easier to use. Everything has nice clear spacing - and the move away from Aqua which has been with us forever is NOT a bad thing.

Aqua looks a little outdated now, and I like the fact that Apple are experimenting with new design ideas. I hope iTunes is the template that affects the rest of the OS.
It looks more cluttered. It's true that new ideas must be tried out and I like some that some things work much better and quicker than on iTunes 6, for example video playback is very much better. But it doesn't look so well thought out as 6 did, you can see it yourself. No whining.

All the music videos ARE ones i've imported myself.
Right... Those one don't show up in Music Videos playlist, but they do in Movies. Search no more.

I love the new look. And good on them for integrating Cover Flow. I hated it being in a separate app.

ugghhh. You can call it whining. I call it telling it like it is. Before and after.

That was exactly what I expected from this new "Album Artist" tag. but no luck.

I use the "grouping" tag for this purpose. I use the "genre" tag for a general genre clasiification, and I just pile the sub genre's, moods and stuff in "grouping". Then I can call them by creating a smart playlist that looks in grouping tag.
Not a bad tip. Thanks for that. Of course I'd still rather see those tags implemented as, well, tags, instead of just new strings of text.

How'd you manage to get 2 and 1/2 star rating?
The "add and subtract a half star" script, of course... ;)

To lazy too look up the link now, it's past 1 AM and I'm on my way to bed with a terrible cold, so I'll just attach it zipped up. Put it in ~/Library/iTunes/Scripts/ (where ~/ is your users home folder) and it should appear in iTunes scripts menu. :)

Right on. You can tell at a glance, with the old style, that the FWD and REW buttons are not being used, and all the buttons are easier to see, which is the point of having buttons in a visual interface in the first place.

decksnap: about your cat's breath ...

Sorry for the OT, but there's no other way to contact decksnap here or I'd have sent a PM.

Speaking of your cat's breath: have you tried feeding it some greens? I have 2 cats here that, I recently discovered, like fresh spinach. Weirdest thing I ever saw our cats do. One of 'em actually loves the stuff and will eat it any time, apparently.

Well, if any of the few people I have run into with this crashing problem find a fix, let me know ASAP.

Things I have tried:
Permissions
Reboot
Full Memtest
Gapless on/off
rebuild XML library (crashes even on shared libraries...)
zap and reinstall

I'm getting rather pissed.

Now that I think about it, I ran it fine for a little bit before I upgraded to the new QT. Have any of you upgraded your QT?

installed - works and looks great

Hi! Just a few lines to say that I installed iTunes 7.0 and the Quicktime update (7.1.3). Everything works well on my PB G4. The new iTunes interface (with pictures of the albums) looks really great to me.

Maybe you should try re-installing 10.4.7 Combo Update

As has been stated a million times today already, Apple bought out CoverFlow, they didn't rip anybody off.

It may have been stated a million times but I've been ummm what's that thing called when you earn money? Oh yah...working. Driving around town doesn't give me much of a chance to spend hours on macrumors.

Oh god please no...

I hope a new version of iTuno comes. Fast.

Those folder icons are new. Maybe they will show themselves in Leopard. OS X's icons have stayed unchanged since 10.0.

And what's up with the all caps text in the sidebar + store? Gives me a headache.

Aside from the interface issues, iTunes 7 has been the best upgrade yet. And unexpected––I just assumed a modest 6.1 upgrade for movie support. CoverFlow integration, gapless playback, slick new iPod interface...now Apple just needs to fix the GUI and all shall be well.
