Apologies if it's been mentioned already, but I don't think I saw it previously in the thread;
and maybe I'm just missing it...

...but didn't Command-1 used to bring up the iTunes window? Or do I actually need to click on the dock icon now to get a new iTunes window if I close it? Why would a keyboard shortcut like that be taken away?

Repair your permissions before and after each install. Mine did some correction to iTunes framework.

If fixing your permissions isn't normally a waste of time, doing it twice definitely is. The installations have administrator access, so the original permissions don't matter to them, if it is worth fixing permissions (which from what I've read, is generally doubtful) do it afterwards.

Well this is turning sour. My brother cant get the latest version of iTunes. Stupid me told him to upgrade and the thing wont install, it keeps giving "error iTunes cannot be configured".

I then told him to remove iTunes 6 and try again and it still wont work. Now my brother has no iTunes on his computer and he is pretty ticked off. Great, way to go Apple:mad:

Get Album Artwork

Aw man. Each time I run "Get Album Artwork" I get a few more covers.... and I've run it about five times now. Before the last run, I was missing three Yes covers (out of six), now I'm down to missing two. Still missing two Cyndi Lauper covers (eclectic or crazy? you decide).

I hope this improves when the download service isn't so busy.

Edit: It looks like for the last few, the most efficient thing to do is find the album with missing artwork, right click on a song from the album and hit Get Album Artwork to have it just search for the missing one. It just took me 14 tries to get "Howard Jones / One to One" cover art this way.

Anyone who is having crashing issues during playback:

I think I figured out what my problem was at least. I eventually reinstalled and cleaned everything a million times a thousand different ways, but it turns out (much to my chagrin) the iTunes folder in the library was unchanged. The problem was there. I had a 3rd-party visualizer plugin (the milkdrop port) and once I removed it and restarted iTunes it ran flawlessly.

I have to chuckle at my Mac Rumors tech support: "Repair permissions."

Has repairing permissions ever really helped or is it the Mac User's "Happy Button"? And yes, I do know what it does.

I don't like the GUI either. I like my shiny blue "pill" scrollers. Gunmetal makes it look like a linux program. ... Only I've lost some of my artwork.

Not sure about the scroll bars yet. They are kind of hard to see.

What I hate most are the main headings are no longer collapsable. So if I don't want to see the items under Store I can't hide it any more. (at least as far as I can tell) For those of us with a lot of playlists, any extra acrage is appreciated. :)

How did you lose artwork though??

2 questions before I upgrade:

1.) Free album art. I scanned in most of my album covers and manually applied them to my imported cds, but most of them are not as high of quality as what iTunes offers. Can I download them over the top of what I have or do I need to go through and delete my old ones?

2.) Gapless. I know what gapless playback is, but what exactly does iTunes do with it? I kinda like the cross-fade for most of my songs, so what exactly does the gapless playback scan do?

Thanks

Album art scroll is a bit slow for me.. Also, some of my albums won't download the album art?? It has artist, title and album name spelled correctly so I'm not sure why some albums won't download???

You can select all the albums, get info for all of them (if you select all your songs and hit Command I it will bring up one dialog to change them all) and erase the artwork and then have iTunes find it (or do it by album or track). It will not find new artwork unless its empty first.

Gapless appears to not crossfade but rather tell the player that there is no gap between that song and the next.

I had no problems installing it on my Windows laptop.

But I don't think much of the gapless playback as it doesn't work, not in iTunes at least (I haven't tried it on my iPod yet). It seems better than it was before but it still doesn't sound right, I'm guessing there is still a gap though I haven't done a close inspection yet.

This is probably the biggest issue I have with iTunes. I've dj'd for as long as I can remember and it really, really bugs me. I know what is going to happen at the end of the track and it puts me off the music.

From looking at the help section, it appears that all it does is turn off crossfade on albums you've marked as gapless.

Wow. This is one of the best upgrades Apple has come up with in a long time. From the cover art scrolling to the clean classy interface look, to the vastly improved iPod info, I am really happy with this update. Thanks Apple!! Great work!:)

iTunes 7 looks very cheap. It looks very Microsoftish.

CoverFlow--give me a break. Most useless piece of crap!

Well, so far itunes has had zero success in fetching artwork. maybe the high traffic tonight? I'm still having better luck with my ALbum Art widget (liquidx.net)

Advanced Bar and Browse Button

Why is the browse button on the bottom of the screen now?

And where is the advanced bar that just debuted in iTunes 6??? I used it all the time.

And none of my radiohead album art shows up outside of the old artwork viewer.

Why use iTunes anymore for playback? Should't you have an intel mac now with front row?

Uh what? Because I am completely reliantly on iTunes and the hundred features frontrow wasn't built for.

So maybe dumb/already asked questions, but I can only sync purchased music on another computer and my iPod not ALL the music on my iPod?

Yup. The record companies would have had a fit.
