Nooooouuuuu!!!

I'll stick Leopard DVD in a shredder if thats what it ends up looking like. Apple just managed to bring the windows UI (looks like sony connect) into OS X. Thanks a lot. :(

I'm with you. The new iTunes looks so dreary. It makes me tetchy.

iTunes won't download artwork even tho' ITMS has it

Why is this happening? Its not finding most of the Artwork and I knowwww for a fact iTunes has these CD's.

I have the same problem. I have tried downloading album art for albums that I know are on the iTunes Music Store. I see the album art on ITMS for the album I own (ripped into my Mac from CD), but it won't add the art when I ask it to "Get Album Art." :(

Have you checked to make sure your fields for album, artists etc. are the same? I have had to make some minor changes to match the iTunes store for it to work. Still kind of buggy though.:)

glitch in iTunes 7

Okay, after iTunes found about 70% of the cover art for my albums, I decided to just fill in the rest by hand. I accidentally put the wrong art on an album, and when I tried to replace it with the correct art it paused, acted like it was gonna work, but then left the same wrong art. I've reproduced the problem.

One thing that bothers me is that when you click the slider to scroll down, it automatically jumps to the center.

iT7 keeps crashing

when I try to play song samples!

Can't go back to 6 cause it changed the library!

Apple, hurry up with 7.01!

There seems to be a problem with the CoverFlow slider. When I first open iTunes it appears correctly, but if I switch views it becomes blurry.

Have you tried the clear downloaded artwork option? I know its buggy with this feature.:)

Wow Awesome Update

In addition to the features already noted. I noticed two awesome new features.

1) Much better video playback. There's an on-screen display and playback is much more responsive.

2) Can label videos as "TV Show". Last iTunes I believe all videos were automatically labeled as Movie, and there was no way to change it from within iTunes.

This might seem like minor things, but for free software that I can download and use immediately on my mac AND my pc, this is amazing to me.

Edit: heh, MR forums automatically changed my subject from all-caps to mixed case. what a classy place

I am saddened by this release. This is the worst piece of Apple software since prior to Jaguar. (And I thought Pages was bad.) :(

Here are some features that I don't like:
- The inability to use the right and left arrow keys in some places to switch songs.
- No full-screen CoverFlow (unlike the real CoverFlow application).
- The new interface is terribly unorganized, ugly and inconsistent.
- The store is now too wide for 1024X768 pixel screens.
- The interface no longer responds properly to universal interface preferences.
- The store doesn't give the number ratings for the top 100 songs in the separate categories anymore.
- Finding what you want on the iTunes store takes a lot more steps and isn't laid out as it should be in numerous cases.
- The new iTunes icon is ugly and not as professional as other Mac applications.
- iTunes doesn't let you use CoverFlow view and browse at the same time.
- You are forced to have your media separated into different categories that Apple has chosen for you.
- Adjusting equalizer settings is delayed.
- Although it still lists it in the keyboard shortcuts as an option -- you can no longer press cmd+2 to view the equalizer.
- Other features aren't as simple as they should be and don't respond as they should either.
- Less of my playlists can be seen at one time.

A couple of other things I noticed as I typed this are:
- The awesome search bar is gone! :(
- What?! Why do I have to click on a song in order for me to access it on the store -- that's making two steps where there was only one before. :(

I can only name 4 "major" features that I actually like and I haven't yet noticed anything else good, useful and/or better:
1. Movie controls
2. Skip Count (column)
3. Last Skipped (column)
4. Free album art (if you can even call this a feature  )

I don't mind a few of the new features but, in my humble opinion, the bad definitely outweighs the good. Maybe now that Apple is doing so well they needed to hire new people but couldn't find anymore good employees and so they had to hire people who have poor design skills. :( Perhaps they just had to rush this release to compete with Amazon. I hope it is the latter because this could mark the start of Apple's quality demise. :(

Are new TV shows in widescreen

I have not bought any new TV shows but I watched the keynote stream and during the iTV part, Steve played an iTunes Store bought episode of The Office and it was in Widescreen and I did not see any stretching. So, are the TV episodes original 16x9 or are they cropped to fix 640x480 (4x3).

Yes, many current TV shows air in a letterboxed widescreen format even on SDTV. The Office is one that definitely does that, as is ER.

Which search bar are you referring to? I still see a search field in the upper right of the iTunes window.

i just updated to 7 and now none of my tv shows ,movies and music videos won't play. they don't come up in a new window and the play icon never appears next to the name of track. also what does the new quicktime update have to do with 7 and what do you do to keep your qt 6 pro status in qt7+( do you use your purchase key from 6 and if so where do you get it?)

You can't use your QT 6 key in QT 7. You have to buy a new key.

What I still cant figure out though is why iTunes will take 1 album and try to assign it Artwork for each different track or have them clustered into a few, like Tracks 1-5 and then 6,7,8-11, even though they all share the same info for Album, grouping, genre and sometimes composer and artist. This is just under Album view, under normal, its well...normal lol
I was trying to figure this out too, and finally came up with the reason. Rather than using intelligent sorting like the browser view, or when printing an album listing, it instead takes songs as presently sorted in the table view and then starts at the first one. It sets that to be an album, and then looks at the second song in the list. If it's got the same album name, it groups them. Then it goes down the list adding them to the album until a song has a different album name. Then it gets an album listing separate, and any songs [directly beneath it in the table listing] are added to it.

For some truly weird oddities, go to the 3D view and, say you have Politics of Dancing and Politics of Dancing 2 by Paul van Dyk. Yes, it's a compilation album, but even if you check that box for all of them and double check that the title is exactly the same, it still breaks up the 60 some songs into 35 albums if you sort by title. But click to sort by artist and the number of albums "changes" even though no extra songs were added or removed from the queue. Change to year, or any other one and watch how magically new albums come and go. Why? Because it doesn't sort it internally properly. For example, sorting by song title and then switching to album (middle) view:

PoD: (5) Activity
PoD2: (9) Adrenalin, (7) Alone
PoD: (6) Another Late Thursday, (12) Autumn, (10) B.W.Y.
PoD2: (11) Believe, (6) Burn, (14) Carry On, (8) Close Horizon, (11) Closer Now (feat. Fischer)
PoD: (14) Club Attack, (13) Cristalle, (1) Digital Reason

Notice a pattern? If instead list by artist (like I said, it's a compilation), I get

PoD: (10) Into the Night [4 Strings], (11) Let's Go [Activex]
PoD2: (3) Yeah [Agnello & Ingrosso], (1) String Theory [Alex Gold]
PoD: (1) Digital Reason [Ashtrax], (7) Secrets & Lies Solid Session Remix [Blank & Jones]
PoD2: (3) Tangerine [Calmec], (10) Shine feat Aino Laos [CJ Stone]

Once again, a clear but disturbing pattern is scene. The only way I found to fix this is either A- set Paul van Dyk as the album artist (which seems stupid I'd have to go back through and reset all the artists to the album artists except for compilations, etc), or B- add the album column to the view. But if I'm seeing album artwork, why do I need the name of the album? I like my iTunes window tiny, with ust the name and artist, and as much as I like the album view, it should ENSURE that it has properly grouped ALL songs from an album before displaying. It's just annoying as it is, and it can't be that hard to make it order by albums internally initially, or have a way you can not list albums but let it order by them anyways.

Yes, you must have QuickTime 7.1.3+ installed

See: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Additional Video Requirements
Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later
1 GHz G4 processor or better
QuickTime 7.1.3 or later
16MB video RAM

Yes, you must have QuickTime 7 installed

so in other words, to use itunes 7 i have to throw away my QT 7.04 pro licence and either use the new basic QT or buy a new pro licence that will be out dated when the "true" vid ipod comes out.

There was an option to have a search bar in iTunes 6. This following screenshot shows the bar that runs all the way across the top of the iTunes window just under the forward, back and home buttons:

No your QT 7.01 license is good for all 7.X incarnations of QuickTime. I.E. if you bought a license for 7.01 it will work on 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 etc once 8.0 comes out you have to buy a new one
