how can i find my registration code for QT to try in the new version?

You do not need it. It automatically takes care of it. Just download the update and install.

If you ever do lose it you can get it by logging into your account on apple.com

You shouldn't have to re-enter your registration code. If you have to, though, you can go to Apple's online store and log in and go to your account and the registration code should be listed under "Downloadable Software Purchases."

EDIT: A bit late with this post. :D

so in other words, to use itunes 7 i have to throw away my QT 7.04 pro licence and either use the new basic QT or buy a new pro licence that will be out dated when the "true" vid ipod comes out.
Why... a valid 7.0.4 licence should work without any problems with 7.1.x...

Edit: The confusion even slowed me down to a Pentium II's pace... :p

How do you get iTunes to get album covers? I don't see any new album covers even though I clicked yes when updating.

and... what is gapless playback?

sorry... I don't really know iTunes

I think iTunes 7 looks great. Most interestingly, they seem to have borrowed many features and display options from Microsoft's latest Windows Media Player. That's not a bad thing though.

Under the Advanced menu...Get Album Artwork

Gapless playback...Songs play back to back without added pause. Encoding such as AAC adds extra space at the head and tail of files thereby adding extra pause than say the physical cd medium has.

FYI...determining gapless playback information for a large library, such as 13161 songs takes a LONG time.

Gapless Playback is for the songs that are played without a gap a la Abbey Road.:)

iTunes library converted from 6 to 7

erm is there a way to go back to iTunes 6 without a complete re-install. Using this thing is giving me a headache

This may be harder than you think. Problem: I frequently copy the iTunes library files from my home PC to the work one and I just found out that the files (xml & itl) were converted to iTunes 7 and are not compatible with iTunes 6 !
I did not try to uninstall version 7 to see if it brings back the file format to the version 6 compatible one.

Advice before the iTunes 7 upgrade: backup your iTunes Music Library.xml & iTunes Library.itl files in your iTunes folder before installing iTunes 7.

I think nothing could be worse. There's a reason I've been using iTunes, not WMP. I'm not saying there couldn't be people that would like the way it looks. Might just be that they like the more Windows-style look... Yech.... It's true, gotta admit.

Edit: Your nick sorta tells it all. (no offense! no way!) You might not like Apple-look as much I do.

There's not been an article today (after version 7 came out). And the Gapless Album tag in the iTunes song info window is brand new. Not seen before version 7.

There was an old "workaround" trick to get sort of gapless playback, by setting crossfade to 0 seconds, like you describe, a trick I myself used, but that has apparently nothing to do with the new Gapless Album feature...

Sorry, it was in iTunes help on the mac.

The new iTunes won't let me keep my shuffle in the source list?!?!!? How the heck am I supposed to add things to the list for future update if it's not there?????? Please help!!!!!

I agree this is dumb. The alternative I guess is to use a separate playlist.

How did you get that "Album by Artist" view?? I only see "Album" and "Album Artist".
I think it's only the name for Album when viewing the main Music library... but I'm not sure...

Edit: Good thing I wasn't sure :)o): http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060912165829723

Here's a nice feature in iTunes 7.0 -- click on the Album column to sort by album (as you would expect), then click again to sort by 'Album by Artist' and again for 'Album by Year.' Definitely a nice sorting option for those like me who like to play whole albums at a time, but want to keep artists together.

He-he... I knew I'd seen it more places than Apple Support... :)

Neat trick, though... rendered obsolete today... but still neat... ;)

Album Art Glitch

A very annoying thing about the new iTunes, is that I can't paste album artwork to more than one song at a time. Is anyone else having this problem? I also used to be able to select a whole album of songs, then find the album art on the Internet and drag the art to the album art box in iTunes - but this also doesn't work anymore. I love the new interface, but I feel like reverting back to version 6 so that I can import my artwork first!

I still see a search bar....not sure what people are talking about.

Well, about 3-4 hours of work but ive found 90% of the cover arts I needed via Google or Amazon  So now i can finally go to bed. It was buggin me :D
