I am incredibly unimpressed, too. New iPods- color, size or price- is a footnote not a keynote, unless there is some new functionality, which I am not seeing.

Looking at the Rose mock up, two things strike me.

1) The cover view is a nice new way to look at things, but again does not really make this an event.

2) Look how dated the iTunes is as a whole.

iTunes needs a total re-do, from the ground up. New look... and fix all the sorting and playing issues. I would like to LOOSE some functionality- iTunes sucks too many resources these days. But even with all that (and I know that will not be happening!), this looks to be a non-event... but a ground-up remake of iTunes would be welcome.

Jumping the gun a bit aren't we? I mean we haven't even had the event yet.

Interesting. I use iTunes on XP at work, and don't see any of teh problems you stated. The scrolling is very responsive, and I don't get any 10 second (or even 1 second) delays. I've got a library with 17456 songs in it.

maybe 10 seconds was an exaggeration, but there is a clear delay. iTunes does not behave like a normal Windows application. For example, you can't tile it with other applications. There's clearly something weird. When I click on "Applications," my first click never works. The "controls" are not as responsive as they should be. I've seen this on every Windows machine. It is not a problem on Macs, I've tested it out at my local apple store.

my inside sources say the "bid deal" we keep hearing about is Apple implemented a new iphone calculator view.

portrait = regular calc
landscape = scientific calc
upside down = abacus

I am shocked his source hasn't been fired yet. Its only a question of time before they find the leaks.

I am suprised Apple hasn't gone on to a lock down yet. So many leaks these days its almost too easy :D

This kevin rose person? he is singlehandedly spoiling the whole show! Regardless of whether we think the things that have been spoken about already are no big deal, the mystery and excitement in anticipation of an Apple event has finally evaporated.

Certainly hope Kevin's been fed a bunch of nonsense so we can really be surprised tomorrow!

You don't know who Kevin Rose is!?

If you don't want the show to be spoiled, why go to an Apple Rumours site!?

What does this even matter?

Can't people just wait until tomorrow when it's officially announced?

If this were a huge, radical change from the current version of iTunes, then hooray, lets speculate on how cool it could be.

This is about as exciting as me speculating that tomorrow, the Apple logo will look like this: :apple:

are they really going to make us wait for 2.1 iPhone software? bah!

DID you NOT read my post? You guys are acting like all of this is REAL, and the event has already happened

Guys, you are mostly ALL believing this and saying how hardly anything has changed.

but seriously, We are all just reling on Kevin Rose to spoil it for us Before jobs tells us.

Infact i'd rather get all exited about an event and no nothing about it rather than get all these picky little rumours

Oh well.

Just Wait until tomorrow. I know that steve wont let us down. Why would he hold such a huge event for just an iTunes update and a Nano revamp.

I know he has some snazzy iRocks up his sleeve... or in his right pocket...

If it is just another view option, it would take up a great deal less display space then the current "Grouped with Artwork" view. So I'd support it as a fourth view option.

I'm pretty sure Grid View would replace the Grouped with Artwork view.

Wonder how Genius selects music - whether it just looks at given stats (e.g. finds the classic or world music tag) or analyses the music to get more along the lines of Shazam, Picard, MusicBrainz etc. Seems Kevin is stealing Apple thunder, bit by bit. Hopefully there's enough hidden away to make it a decent event tomorrow

I seriously might go on a murderous rampage if they only release 2.1 for the iPod Touch tomorrow. 2.0, 2.0.1, and 2.0.2 are the buggiest operating systems I've ever seen on any device. My 3g needs an update ASAP. I've waited long enough through 87 restores, uninstalling iTunes 7.7.1, deleting library files, deleting all apps and reinstalling, making 18 three hour backups. My iPhone 3g makes me want to die sometimes. My emails will show up 8 hours late too. I'm serious it pisses me off all the time. I'm starting to lose my love for the iPhone. My old one never had these problems. I loved that one and 1.1.4.

Sorry to sound crazy but I'm at my wits end with this piece of crap 2.0.2 software.

I don't see what's so special about grid view. If it's anything like the implimentation in Windows Media Player, it'll save space over the list+album art view but not offer anything extra...

Maybe I'm just backward but I usually stick with plain 'ol list view in iTunes myself...

How much would people be willing to pay for a movie subscription? I mean, keep in mind it would be vastly superior to the Netflix model of having to wait days vs mins and they'd probably charge extra for HD.

I think I'd pay, maybe, up to $20 for DVD quality, $25 for HD and you can start and stop it at any point (the subscription) so you aren't forced into signing up for a year or something. That'd be great for long vacations or something with the kids. Buy 1 month, download a boat load of movies and then cancel it before the next month.

As a Windows XP user, I don't give a crap about any new features. iTunes does what it needs to do. What I would like to see in iTunes 8 is a faster, more responsive interface. I'd like things to come up WHEN I CLICK ON THEM, not after a 10 second delay. I'd like the scrolling to be smooth, like it is in every other Windows application. I'd like to be able to click on the scroll bar, and move it up and down in a normal fashion, instead of clicking on a phantom spot and having it move in a jerky manner.

I agree and I'm a Mac user. I don't really care about this added fluff. Just fix the bugs, make it run faster and maybe then start thinking about adding features. Right now it's become a bloated pig!

This seems absurd

Let's take a look at a potential timeline for this event based on these rumors:
- New design for the iPod Nano
(3 minutes)
- iPod price reductions
(2 minutes)
- 2.1 software on iPod Touch
(3 minutes)
- iTunes 8.0: New audio visualization, Genius playlist, Genius sidebar, Grid view
(5 minutes)

So we're to believe that Apple is inviting reporters from all over the world to come and sit for 13 minutes to see redesigned iPods and an update to iTunes?

I have to think that, while these rumors might be true, there has to be something bigger planned.

Hope they implement this grid view on the touch so we can browse covers without utilizing that POS coverflow system which is slow.

Sorry to sound crazy but I'm at my wits end with this piece of crap 2.0.2 software.

Come now, does no one remember the first release of Windows 95? I was working in desktop support when that one first came out. <shudder> :D

What about the subscription Service rumours?

Pay a monthly fee and have access to pretty much the whole itunes library on a temporary basis.
If the genius creates playlists the way pandora does I am all for it.

As for the Ipod touch, I'd say it has to be a significant change. Maybe bringing back the supersized spinning hard drive so it can actually store all the movie you want on it.

If this is real it looks about as useless as coverflow. Until Apple fills out their cover art catalog, I certainly won't use it considering that roughly 1/3 of my catalog have no covers. What good is scrolling through a bunch of placeholder images? And yes I know I can do this myself but it's taken me long enough to rip all my CDs let alone download cover art off Amazon.

Hopefully Jobs has an ace up his sleeve instead of a new useless view and visualizer

maybe....... maybe not

Woo...

"And there you have it... woo." - Kent Brockman
If iTunes 8 had tab access to various libraries at the top, I would have been more excited. For now I can only say, "woo."

BTW - Is the genius bar on the right anything like the genius bar at Apple Stores? Heaven help us.
