So we're to believe that Apple is inviting reporters from all over the world to come and sit for 13 minutes to see redesigned iPods and an update to iTunes?

I have to think that, while these rumors might be true, there has to be something bigger planned.

Fixed your post based on previous apple events.

You left out the 30 minutes of product demonstrations, showing of ads for the new iPod/iTunes, and speeches by third party developers and technology partners.

There will also be a 17 minute U2/Coldplay concert where they form a new Apple-backed supergroup.

Thus, the event will take at least 1 hour.

I'm hoping that the rumors of a price drop on the ipods are true, and a new view format on iTunes will be good.

I don't understand--why would there be an OS update for the touch iPod and not for the iPhone? They have identical hardware (except for the fact that the iPhone is, well, a phone) and Apple has really been taking it up the ass in the press with respect to iPhone 2.x bugs. Seems to me that the last thing Apple should be worried about is getting the touch FW out there.

Is the genius bar on the left anything like the genius bar at Apple Stores?

If so, I predict you'll have to make an online reservation at least a day in advance (sometimes up to a week, depending on the time of year) to listen to a song/album. When it comes time to listen to the song, it will be a midi file with the traditional Apple text to speech voice, and when you try to tell the "Genius Bar" that it is wrong and that it's not the right song, it'll give you some story about how they worked as a groupie in the music business, so they know more than you possibly could about songs.

At least that's how I'd predict it to function if it's anything like the genius bar at Apple Stores.

you forget that the iPhone was released as “the Best iPod Ever.”

Perhaps I am missing the obvious, but why would this be a good thing?

One guess would be that since the record companies have been grumbling that they're losing album sales because people can pick and choose individual songs to buy, Apple will be trying to appease them with more album-oriented features and sales options. This could be just the first of those actions.

Unfortunately Apple’s iNinja’s are dress in all white outfits and are very easy to spot and avoid.

Plus it looks like they are all at the location of the event tomorrow guarding all the entrances. Ars Technica. According to reports - there is lot more security than normal for an iPod event.

Absolutely SPOT ON. :D

I'm amazed people aren't more pissed off about the potential lack of iPhone 2.1 software.

Page one huh?

Strange really - as it's Kevin Rose having a go at a mock up, rather than him sketching out from recollection, having seed it or been told about it. Which leads me to think it could well deviate quite a bit from what he's sketched out.

With Apple tell journalists to come - would they actually want to say this if they didn't have a good deal to show? They'd get a negative press otherwise, and they've got a great opportunity to compare with the Zunes sales, where Apple is in comparison to other mp3 players etc. Bigger venue, bigger event?

Just thought i'd point out i mocked something similar to this up a few months ago. Purely as a thing i would like in iTunes 8 so i will be happy about this. The hover sounds odd though. Maybe a tracklist will come up when you hover over the image.

Even if they do release an update for the ipod touch, the iphone update would probably be silently released, as to not openly discuss/admit the problems with the current software/firmware.

I'm pretty sure Grid View would replace the Grouped with Artwork view.
I hope not. I use regular list view when I am preparing playlists to burn or copy over to my iPod, coverflow occasionally and Artwork Group view when I am going over or organizing my Library. If I had to live with only one view, I would pick Artwork Group view.

Why hasn't Apple disposed of this guy yet?

Where are the ninjas?

That's exactly what I was thinking too. I bet if even half of the stuff Kevin has said is true Steve Jobs is hiring a Hit Man right now to take Kevin Rose out. He better be careful.

I can see Tuesday's top Digg story already. "Digg.com founder Kevin Rose is missing!!!"

I seriously might go on a murderous rampage if they only release 2.1 for the iPod Touch tomorrow. 2.0, 2.0.1, and 2.0.2 are the buggiest operating systems I've ever seen on any device. My 3g needs an update ASAP. I've waited long enough through 87 restores, uninstalling iTunes 7.7.1, deleting library files, deleting all apps and reinstalling, making 18 three hour backups. My iPhone 3g makes me want to die sometimes. My emails will show up 8 hours late too. I'm serious it pisses me off all the time.
If it is as bad as you write, return it.

This means nothing. Remember what happened in June when they announced the new iPhone? One hour of booooooring iphone apps, then 15 mins before the end "oh by the way this is the new iPhone!"...

EDIT: Ooops... seems I'm a little late! sorry about that! :)

Hmmm... I'm not sure how the grid view would help me in my 15,000+ tracks. But hopefully it will work for others. I don't use coverflow very much either unless I'm just doing a random playlist.

I've given up on them adding the ability to type a hard-return in the comments box when entering information of an mp3. You can have a hard-return in the lyrics box, but cannot type one in the comments box. In the windows version of iTunes you can ctrl-enter to do it, but not in the Mac version. oh well
