Common' guys this is Steve since when has he let us down? :p

AppleTV was a bit of a letdown. I watched the stream and was intrigued when he brought it up - Steve only talks about successes, how's he going to spin the AppleTV in to anything other than a flop? He didn't, which was cool. At least he does live on this planet, which is more than I can say for Steve Ballmer (maybe he immigrated from another galaxy).

iPod HiFi was a bit of a letdown as well. Speaking of discontinued products, when's Apple going to release a new iSight?

grrrr

they better not change the middle view now with the album art and the songs next to it. thats the view i like the best and always use.

lol, and a new Apple add on Engadget :)
i think

If that ad is for real I think Apple have taken in slightly too far this time I mean come-on there is advertiseing and then there is that. Maybe Apple will be the new Microsoft?

 :apple:

And that post about Engadget invitations is from 2006 not 2008....

If you go back to the genesis of that post, user Tclare asked when was the last time an Apple Special Event disappointed. The "fun new products" event of 2006 saw the unveiling of a leather case for the iPod plus a (now deleted) speaker system.

Hence the link.

:)

I've been a iMac owner for 9 months and I'm planning on getting an iPod Touch, especially if there's upgrades or price reductions tomorrow.

My question though is, if there are announcements tomorrow regarding it, how long will it be before it appears in the Apple Retail stores? We have a PC World nearby with a new revamped Apple Store dept inside. It's open until late, 8pm I think. Do you think I'll be able to go there straight after the announcements and buy the newly upgraded or newly priced iPod?

about the 2.1 touch software...

...i bet the touch gets gps, and with a gps touch we get turn by turn directions... (and so does the iphone)

r.

If it is as bad as you write, return it.

Well, that's fine and all when you say it like that. But considering that I bought it on launch day, and the SERIOUS problems didn't even start until about a month after buying it, it's far too late to return it at this point.

It's also an issue of being a loyal Apple supporter, knowing how great the first gen iPhone was, and the potential of the iPhone 3g and 2.0 software that drives me batty. I've had times with the device that were wonderful, and those glimpses have given me what is hopefully not a false hope.

By this point, I've gotten the device to be relatively stable, although at the expense of some of it's utility, and hundreds of wasted hours. Seriously, I worked on this thing forever because the so called "geniuses" didn't know how to fix it. I've written other threads on it, including the rather popular "iPhone firmware 2.0.1 killed all my apps." There are serious problems with iTunes 7.7.1 and the 2.0-2.0.2 firmwares. I'll be hesitant to install iTunes 8.0 and 2.1 right away, as I'm actually able to use my iPhone right now to call people instead of looking at a beautiful shiny Apple logo stuck on my screen forever. I'm tired of things getting worse rather than better.

oke, if the event starts at 10 a.m, i live in the netherlands and want to watch it, when does it start at my time? thanks

Think it'll be 4pm BST.

I've set the world clock on my dashboard to San Fransisco time so I can be sure :)

If this is real it looks about as useless as coverflow. Until Apple fills out their cover art catalog, I certainly won't use it considering that roughly 1/3 of my catalog have no covers. What good is scrolling through a bunch of placeholder images? And yes I know I can do this myself but it's taken me long enough to rip all my CDs let alone download cover art off Amazon.

Hopefully Jobs has an ace up his sleeve instead of a new useless view and visualizer

This comment is laughable. Do you really blame Apple for your laziness? It's not Apple's fault your tags either don't match the iTunes music store versions, or your music is not available on the store.

Use one of the many widgets available to do this for you if you don't want to drag and drop them from Amazon.

I find cover flow the most useful way to browse my music. I took the time to get the album art, and it paid off.

I wish

Apple would quit using such superlative and pretentious names .. what is genious about this ? they didn't invent it.. damn

Kevin Rose has posted a diagram of what he believes iTunes 8 will look like. He diagrams an iPhoto-like grid-view that allows users to view album art.
Cool, and more space saving than Album Art view.

Albums will reportedly be "directly playable" when you hover over the album.
This smacks of Skimming. It looks like iTunes is taking cues from iPhoto '08 and/or iMovie '08. :)

I like that design. If, on mouse over, you get a track list and you can select & play your track, then it gives you quick 'n' easy one click access to an individual track while still being a lot more concise than other views - so less scrolling!
I would really really like that. It's even better if iTunes 8 supported grid view within a grid view.

2) Look how dated the iTunes is as a whole.

iTunes needs a total re-do, from the ground up. New look... and fix all the sorting and playing issues. I would like to LOOSE some functionality- iTunes sucks too many resources these days.
It needs a revamp like what iMovie went through. But if that was true, we'd probably have heard about it now. So I don't have my hopes up in the redesign/rewrite/revamp/rewhatever department. :(

Let's take a look at a potential timeline for this event based on these rumors:

So we're to believe that Apple is inviting reporters from all over the world to come and sit for 13 minutes to see redesigned iPods and an update to iTunes?

I have to think that, while these rumors might be true, there has to be something bigger planned.
Agreed. Here's hoping for the mini-tablet with NEW hardware and software, INCLUDING iLife and iWork, and USB and micro-DVI ports.

can we just have a dif color then grey its so old school
I want to be able to manually change the colors (like Vista) of:
  • Active windows
  • Inactive windows
  • Dialog boxes, scrollbars, column headers, etc.
  • Selected dialog boxes, scrollbars, column headers etc.
  • Menus
  • Selected menus
  • Text boxes, text areas, etc.
  • Highlighting of selected text in text boxes, text areas, etc.
  • Text color
With different transparency and "glossiness" (like in Dashcode)! I can dream, can't I? :D

It would take a very long time to accurately scan all songs - unless the work is done by Apple's servers and the information is fed back to iTunes (as long as the song is in the iTunes catalogue that is).

In fact, only pandora and then last.fm have been able to provide decent playlists, and they're powered by people, not some algorithm.

Also, no list view? seriously? what about us poor cretins with limited processing power...

I also hate being revealed such detailed information. I like the game of macrumours - the blurry pictures, extravagant mock-ups, ludicrous stories.

Perhaps I am missing the obvious, but why would this be a good thing?

Maybe it's an attempt to make coverflow useful. As of right now, it's not an ideal way to find an album you like. The whole things seems like overkill. Don't get me wrong, I love the album art, but I prefer my lists to be done alphabetically by artist or title.
