there could be an option for automatic moving into iTunes Library.

I bet there's already a piece of software out there that adds a watch-folder functionality to iTunes song importing, search around versiontracker.com and you'll probably find it. Heck, on second thought you could simply build this functionality yourself with a Folder Action and a very super simple automator workflow.

EDIT:

My first google search on this topic found the solution as the top google result.

All great suggestions. I know this idea doesn't really fall into iTunes 8, but I recently purchased an Airpot Express with AirTunes, and I'm loving it! I hope that soon I can skip my computer and use AirTunes as a speaker for my iPhone directly.

iTunes 8 at this Septembers iPod event! Please!!! Or perhaps unveiled alongside Quicktime X. I could see that happening.

I know, how about when you buy an album off of itunes, it automatically sends it to something such as a mobileme account. Or even better yet, not even having to do that.

That way, if I buy songs and something ****s up with my library and I haven't backed up yet, well then I can get my songs back.

I fully agree with the previous comments about breaking out the music jukebox features from the rest of the stuff they keep shoehorning into itunes.

Apple's #1 priority with itunes should be removing the bloat that it's accumulated.

Concerning the "storage bar" on iPhones and iPods, I want a section for applications, rather than "other", which comprises of not only apps but other stuff too.

where did they go? Or are you requesting to have a music video folder instead of having it all mixed in with music?
Currently music videos are mixed in with music in the sidebar (Music, Movies, TV Shows, ...).

I would also like the option of having the visualizer in the "Now Playing" box instead of filling up the whole window.

One rumor says 7.8 in October, another says 8 in September.

I wonder which one it will be...

I think it will be iTunes 8. We've had iTunes seven since September 2006. Isn't that the longest that we've stuck with an iTunes revision?

Just thought of another one; this probably won't happen, but I think it would be nice. When my sister got her computer in 2006, she downloaded iTunes 6 about three days before iTunes 7 came around and for some reason never upgraded. Anyway, I was used to that interface when I finally got iTunes (stupid dial-up) and was really confused when there was no "Start Visualizer" button at the bottom, near the Browse button. I know you can just hit Crtl-T, but I still liked a physical button.

winamp does a great job of handling track transitions - i'd really like to see a playback option where when you abruptly choose another track to play, the former track fades out and the new one fades in. itunes' current crossfade playback fixes gaps between consecutive songs, but not when you randomly navigate to one.

Im not really bothered about any new features or redesigns.

It just needs to be faster.

My music library is only 72GB, and it takes an age to open. Surely it cant be purely down to my iMac?

All I want is the feature of queuing tracks. I want to be able to select a track and say "play after current track". And don't say use party shuffle because that sucks.
If I'm listening to an album (or playlist) and want to queue up a track thats not normally after the current one, I want to be able to do that.

And it should work faster...

Yeah, that would be pretty useful.

Gonna hop on the bandwagon here and I too will suggest that iTunes becomes faster. It's so annoying that it will freeze for a little when switching from Music to Movies.

I hadn't thought of that. What exactly would you do with (tabbed browsing in iTunes) that would make it useful? Not asking factiously, I really can't think of a way. Haha.

I can't speak for MisterShark, but I think it might be a solution to something I was wishing for (rather than a feature in itself).

ie:
I'd use tabs if they could distinctly change the look/feel for different contexts. eg:
1) music tab, which takes us back to traditional iTunes music
2) movies tab (including movies I have and rental browsing, etc).
3) iPhone/iPod/AppleTV + apps tab
4) Podcast tab
etc.

if iTunes could find my music and fill out the rest of the metadata, particularly the genre, that would be great. Optionally, of course.

Perhaps its time that Apple started using its own music database as the primary source rather than CDDB to identify and label music we're importing.

Advantages of this would be
a) accuracy & better identification of your music
b) album art
c) 'publish' selected playlists to your blog with links to iTunes previews
d) offer online 'backup' of your music - if the hard disk goes bad, re-download the song from Apple
e) (with labels involvement) offer cheap upgrades of a CD track to its video clip

Automatic DVD import (hey I can wish , right?)
It'd be nice, but I don't think Apple feels the need to push this. Support for other formats might make it though. Certainly Apple doesn't need to rely on the iPod-custom movie files being on the DVD that some have suggested, surely iTunes could look up a DVD, see if they have an agreement to create an iPod version, and import/convert the DVD if permitted.

Allow rental of HD movies, or any video purchase/rental, from itunes, and begin downloading on appletv. So, I can begin an HD download on my appletv on my fast home connection, while I am at work. (so it's done by the time I get home.)

How about a step further. Rent HD movies while at work (or elsewhere) and download to your iPod, which automatically moves the download when you get home.

Or for people on slow internet connections - make a wishlist of films on iTunes, go to the Apple Store and plug in your iPod and have it take a copy directly.

I would like to see a folder monitor option. So I don't have to add my music manually. I add lots of songs on a weekly basis and it gets bother some to have to go add the files ever time.

My mother would love this. She could export a movie (from her laptop to her iMac hard disk) and the iMac would automatically add the movie and sync to the AppleTV.

Last wish:
Set iTunes &/or AppleTV to download movies/podcasts/updates in off peak hours. I don't have unlimited quota.

I'm glad we won't have to be waiting too long for iTunes 8! I have already been waiting for a while, so knowing that it is (hopefully) coming soon is a relief.

I know this suggestion isn't really iTunes 8 related, but I would like to see AirTunes built directly into Mac OS X. I would like all audio, including system audio, to be routed through AirTunes. Why can't a youtube video's audio be transmitted wirelessly? I don't see why not.

Also, I would love to route my iPhone through AirTunes, skipping my computer all together. I already use the Remote app to control my mac, but I would love to hook it up directly. No headphones, no computer, just an iPhone and AirPort Express. Sweet.

Can you tell I am in love with my brand new AirPort Express? :D

It's already possible with an add-on program.

http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/features.php

Thanks! I remember reading about that, but it slipped my mind. Although I would still prefer an integrated Mac OS X solution, this will do if I have a pressing need for it.

Now if they had it for the iPhone... but before that happens I guess Apple will have to finally let Rogue Amoeba into the iPhone dev program...

Great suggestions everyone, I only have 3:

-Reworked Coverflow (the original non-Apple version looked much better)
-Fresher, re-designed UI, maybe Apples version of CoverSutra(?)
-Artist stacks (think dock's Fan & Grid options) so click on 'Exile on Main St.'
or some other custom artwork and view all of The Rolling Stones' albums.

Improved storage and backup

I would like to have the option to choose a separate storage location for Music, TV Shows, Movies/Videos, & Podcasts. Having it all in one makes for a huge backup problem.

Likewise, I would like an Aperture type Vault backup system that you could set based upon which type of files you would like to backup and where.

Smart playlists need to have a simpler way to create a music playlist, without having to specifically put in a bunch of exclusions to keep out podcasts, audiobooks, music videos, spoken word, movies and on and on.... Like a Music only option.

I agree that the program has taken on too many things and needs quite a bit of help to get the organization back.

If I'm on someone else's library via a network, I want to be able to filter that library by artist and see their play list's and such.
