I'm in when "iTunes Match Plus", allowing lossless tracks, debuts. Until then, this is useless to me.

My unlimited data plan with AT&T isn't worth the money I'm paying for it since I barely have a signal anywhere within 5 miles of my apartment. Grandfathering be damned, I'm jumping to Verizon once the iPhone 5 comes out. Maybe then I'll actually be able to use my iPhone for more than just Angry Birds and Solitaire.

I've been lucky enough to always get fine service where I live. One of the few, I know. But obviously in your situation they're kind of screwing you either way; either you get to keep your unlimited, or you get to make a call. God forbid the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Basically what I'm seeing from the video's is that if we chose to enable iTunes Match on our iPhone, iPad, etc. it will erase all the songs which we currently have on their, correct? So does that mean that we would only be able to sync now over iTunes match or could we still sync via iTunes and also iTunes match?

My main thing is that i often chose to buy CD's instead of buying directly from iTunes, i love collecting CD's, so would iTunes match work where if i transfer the songs from a CD to iTunes, would they still show up on my iPhone so that i can sync them only? The thing with this is that I have a vast CD collection but not enough room on my iPhone, so would i be able to just sync certain songs directly via iTunes and than stream the rest over iTunes Match? Or when i enable iTunes match would it wipe out my entire library on my iPhone and than i have to go individually downloading the songs which i do want stored on my iPhone memory directly from my iPhone?

Reading this once again, i can tell that it is extremely confusing what I'm trying to explaining so if someone is willing to answer my question i can attempt to clarify a bit.

I've spent a lot of time making sure my music library has the exact album art, proper tags and everything else in line, even changing genres for some songs. That being said, I'd hate to sign up for this service and then once all is said and done, the iCloud version of my library isn't as perfectly arranged and categorized as my hard copy of the music library I put together.

So you want to micromanage what can sync via iTunes and what you can sync in iCloud? Or if it's possible to have both options enabled at the same time?

I am with you on this. This would be a deal breaker for me if it did not mirror my library with tagging as I would like it.

Or course I could just always disable iTunes share and just eat the 25 dollar cost if it doesn't work out.

Here's what I think will happen.

You put a CD in your Mac, rip it into iTunes. iTunes Match will scan it. The result will be

a. If it finds it on iTunes store, it will give you access to 256kbit versions of it for both streaming or downloading on your iPhone.
b. If it doesn't find it, it will upload your files to iCloud, still giving you streaming or download access on your iPhone.

So, it works as you want it to either way.

As for managing the local vs remote songs on your device. I'm not sure if there's a better way then just picking and choosing them on your device.

Does anyone know if the streamed files are picked up by 3rd party Players? In other words, when I plug in my iPhone to my Pioneer car stereo, am I able to see all songs from the iTunes on my iMac at home and select, skip, pause, etc. from the stereo controls?

I basically want to know if it's possible to have both options enabled. So that i can sync certain songs directly from iTunes to my iPhones memory and have the rest just available for streaming on my iPhone. I don't want to have to set up my iPhone where i will only be able to use it via iTunes stream, meaning that through my iPhone i would have to download each song that i want stored onto my memory individually via my iPhone, unless i have to do this. I want to know if i can sync certain songs directly via iTunes and than set up iTunes Match on my iPhone where i will be able to stream the songs which i chose not to sync from my iTunes library directly onto my iPhone, but in doing this have the songs which i did chose to sync via iTunes stay on my iPhone, for when i don't have good reception.

I hope this makes sense. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help! So i basically won't be able to do what i just stated above correct? Definitely a bit of a bummer, but ill manage. so basically with this new iTunes Match service were given two options where we chose to "sync" over iTunes Match or sync directly from iTunes, but we can't have both?

Will it stream an entire playlist or only a single song at a time?

You want to listen to several songs at the same time ?

[edit]

I understand what you mean now.

Yes. It streams a playlist and you can select which song also. But it will start from number one and play through number X.

I also want to know this.

Looks great

This looks fantastic!

One thing I want to know though is how do I actually delete something from iCloud. It shows deleting it from your library keeps it in your list just undownloaded. What happens if I don't like something anymore and just plain don't want it around or have an old version (not remastered) I don't want around or if I need to get rid of songs because I'm running out of iCloud space.

its pretty neat! it got most of my songs as if i had synced it from my laptop... on my iPad, i am able to listen to almost all songs. there is about a 2 second delay in streaming... also, 95% of my collection is indian music and i am amazed and how much of it they have on iTunes... still need to upload a big chunk...

p.s. kinda buggy, itunes gives me a 4010 error and the iOS music app says can't redownload asset or something...

No. Sorry for the confusing question.

I'd like to know if I click on one song, will it automatically play the next song in the list, or will I have to click on each individual song that i'd like to stream?

Cool. Thanks.

Yes. See my edit. It does do playlists. you can start from number one and it will play through all of the playlist or you can select a different song in the playlist.

This is suddenly very much worth $25 a year.

Being able to stream makes iTunes Match/iCloud basically perfect. I could remove all my music off my iPhone and still have access to my entire music library, on-demand, as long as I have a connection. Excellent.

I'm wondering if there are going to be nefarious programs out there that will try to "game" the system.

What I mean is, someone writes a program that makes an mp3 song file that "fools" the iTunes match system into thinking you have that song on your system...then it just automatically gives you that song from their iCloud servers.

Let's say I don't own "Oh Darlin" on Abbey Road by The Beatles. I fire up this hypothetical program, it makes a random mp3 file that's just noise, but it's the same size as "Oh Darlin" and has all the meta-data about the song attached to it and it puts it in my iTunes library. Then iTunes match comes along, see's "oh, he has "Oh Darlin" now, let's make available the 256-bit version to him on our servers". Wham...free song without having to go to Pirate Bay or wherever.

They have safe-guards against this? Just curious.
