Nah. Not sure why this is a big deal on a mac forums. Most people here have iPhones/ipods anyway. Why you need DRM free?

Maybe I could sell my apple TV though, and use my xbox with boxee.

better quality too. which is why i am interested.

I think there is a way to get around the mass upgrade. Remove the songs you don't want to upgrade from your iTunes library (but don't delete the files). Then do the upgrade on what's left. Finally add the songs you deleted back into your library.

It seems to be taking everything from the songs you currently have in your library and not ones from your purchase history since I don't see any on there that I have deleted from my library.

I know it's a pain, but I think it might work. I'm going to try it when I get home today and I'll let you know if it works or not.

no it probably will not work. or rather i am 99.9% sure it will not. i am at work as well and so i loaded up itunes here to see how much my upgrade would cost. library on this computer has no music at all. still knows what i can upgrade. so its based off of purchased info.

Of note: Your DRM free music is tagged with your account info now.

Hasn't it always been tagged?

It doesn't. I can upgrade songs that I lost when my computer crashed a year ago. It's nice because I forgot I purchased the songs.

You're right, sorry I should have done more research before I posted. It was mostly wishful thinking on my part. Thanks for the correction.

I won't be upgrading anytime soon...

I have about $9.90USD in upgrades

no one has found a way to just upgrade one or two songs right? Out of all 33 songs, there's probably only like 5 or 6 i'd want DRM free

It wants to charge me £189 to upgrade all mine... er no.
Why can't we just upgrade the ones that we want... sheesh.

1746 songs in my purchased inventory.........I don't want to even think about how much it's going to cost me........

i'll be upgrading. it's not that much anyways, around $15 bucks.

I'm in the same boat...I'm willing to pay the $.30/track, but only for the music that I still listen to!

No way. Not only won't Apple let me upgrade individual albums/songs, if I want to upgrade my whole purchase history it will cost $120+.

How are u getting the upgrade screen?

Found it at the apple itunes store page on the right side near the top. u will see the option to upgrade

LOL

What is the advantage of iTunes Plus anyway? Is it how you get the DRM free goodness?

Yep, it also gives you 256kbps rather than 128kbps. To be honest, I'm can't see myself buying so much music from iTunes in the future as here in the UK, Amazon has now got quite an impressive selection and often at much cheaper prices than iTunes (£3.00 for some new release albums!).

As for upgrading my tracks, I can't see myself paying them another £111.47 for the pleasure of doing so when I've already bought the tracks. Only now are the record labels and Apple understanding what people want - right after they've got their £0.20 to remove their DRM and to get somewhere near an acceptable bitrate

OK, I'll show my ignorance. I've been busy and haven't taken the time to read anything on this, but what is iTunes Plus and what are you paying for?

Only 25% of my itunes purchased library is eligible for the upgrade... not even all the songs i would really like to upgrade ie the ones i burn to cd a lot forgetting to reimport them... one day i will forget and then thats that song doomed to live in my Mac... lol

So no DRM free tracks on normal iTunes? That sucks!

BitTorrent has a much better deal, I think, just a shame that here in the UK the ISPs will cut your connection for using it!

i want to upgrade. would love to upgrade. but i cant in one big batch like this. that is my one complaint. it will be awhile before i am willing to spend this much at once.

unless there is a way to get around the batch upgrade and do them individually?

That's exactly what I'm thinking...I'm at $102.59 to upgrade... Why cant there be check boxes and let us choose which ones we want to upgrade!?

Yes I will upgrade (£79.79) - the extra bit rate is worth it, as well as no usage restrictions.
