No thanks. No .99 ringtone service for me. I already bought the song legally, or licensed it legally, or licensed the rights to it, or whatever their lawyers would call it when I pay .99 cents to download a song. I'm not going to spend another buck to put part of it into another file and copy it to my iPhone.

What the heck is the .99 for anyway? I have garage band for crying out loud. Are the shareware options for ringtones actually ILLEGAL? I guess they are, or else why would you have to pay .99 for a much less powerful version of something that already comes with iLife?

So if I have to pay for the right to play a ringtone in public, what does this mean about people who play a CD at a picnic so everyone in the park can here it? Is there an additional charge for that too?

Maybe its just me but I'm starting to feel like a tool. I've never regretted buying a CD because I still have them all in a case. But I've started getting a sick feeling about all the stuff I bought from iTMS though. Several hundred bucks for some DRM crippled bytes on my hard drive. Even got videos that I can't even burn. I've been a friggin slave to Apple- even gave them $600 for an iPhone because I got caught up being a fan boy. Doh! all my fault. I'm a big idiot tool. Does anybody know a good fan boy recovery program?

weird.. my iPhone is plugged in... but I don't have an option for ringtones under library.. but I have the Ringtones tab in the iPhone options...

is it supposed to be like that for now?

That's how mine is and I believe that is how it is supposed to be. I think it will only ever show up under the ringtones tab under iPhone.

Major Wtf!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :( :(

Is it just me, or does FrontRow not find the Music/Videos anymore?

Looks like the makers of the 3rd party tools will have to work some more.

It does rather take the cake that Apple, as one of the market leaders in music creation software, don't give you the simple capability to use the music you create as a ringtone. At least add it to Garageband, for goodness sake.

anyone who installed installer.app before update?

I'm sure I gotta restore all again, so I might wait till I know installer.app work fine with new iTunes fine.

hey cool, closed capnioning. Sure would be nice to see movies with subtitles in Hebrew. What format ARs they using for the subtitles, does anyone knows?

iToner Update Please!!!

Now we will have to wait for an update to iToner in order to fix the new iTunes update!

ARGH!

Looks like Apple is very aware of the 3rd party apps eh?

I have about 45 people with a different ringtone. Everytime my phone has to restore or whatever, it changes all their personal ringtones to "Marimba", forcing me to individually change each one back.

Unless there's an easier, quicker way to do that...but I don't know it yet. Can anyone shine some light on that?

Until I can figure out a way to assign ringtones to a large group of contacts at once, I'm going to hold back on updating iTunes.

I think someone else mentioned what was probably happening. Ringtones are synced from iPhone to iTunes. And you have no iTunes Ringtones, so it "sync"s the iPhone and erases ringtones it sees.

iToner etc... may have to somehow add the ringtones to iTunes' library or something.

No problems so far with the update but as someone else said, it does take a little while when you first open it because it updates your library.

Annoyingly this new iTunes update reset my iPod syncing prefs (so I got a 'Set Up This iPod' dialogue when pluggin it it) and stopped recognising the Mac as authorised to play my iTunes purchases. Had to authorise it, but now my 5 machine limit is [incorrectly] used up. Going to have to deauthorise all and authorise them all over again. Kind of annoying...

May wait a little before installing on my other Macs.

If you can't see the ringtones column, go to View > View Options while in the iTunes Store and make sure that "Ringtones" checked. From what I've seen though the feature isn't fully implemented.

Cyberduck (SFTP client) workaround for keeping ringtones with iTunes 7.4

The Cyberduck (SFTP client) method works without subsequent iTunes 7.4 erasure if the ringtones are placed in

/var/root/Library/Ringtones

instead of

/Library/Ringtones

I'd expect updates to the various ringtones apps will be quickly forthcoming. The question is now, will this still work after the next iPhone firmware update for the Wifi iTunes Store?

Ripp Off

I find it a joke that apple wants you to pay AGAIN for 30 seconds of the content you already paid for just to make it in to a ring tone.
This ringtone maker would be great if it would work with every song that is in your library already, but the way they bring it out now is just a ripp off in my eyes.
I sure hope there's a work around to get ringtones on the iphone without having to buy them, and just make them in a different app and the add it to the itunes library to then sync with the phone.
The nice thing about it all is that i of course also just can ignore it ;-).

So lets say I didn't want to use a song as a ringtone I just want to get something less annoying then what is already on my iPhone. unless I use third party I am screwed.

Apple has been making a lot of decisions lately that leave me feeling rather alienated.

Despite my iTunes auth problems, one good, though minor, change is that you can choose folders of playlists to sync in iPod preferences. Before, I'm sure you could only select playlists individually.

Coverflow

Any sign of Coverflow in iTunes doing the little flip-round-the-album-for-tracklist trick? Seems like an obvious thing to add now it's on all the iPods.

wow.. if that is true, that is a HUGE feature (for me anyway)..
