I've started fasting.

Last summer I fasted, drinking only water for about 3 1/2 days. The benefit I feel I obtained from this last summers 3 1/2 days of fasting was it laid the foundation for my nutritional intake afterwards. I ended up losing 15 lbs (not during the sat but afterwards) when I went a whole month eating only vegetables...with the occasional apple or banana. My mentality felt a lot more clearer, I would go to sleep at midnight and wake up at 8am, as opposed to going to sleep at 3am and waking up at 1pm (the life of a college student).

I'm currently 25 hours into my fast, again drinking only water. I figured I'd simply start such a thread, assuming I'm not the only one that has attempted this before or has an opinion on the matter.

:D

I agree that it doesn't sound the healthiest.. nor does eating only veggies for a month.. but if it works for you, good luck!

Wish you good luck :) there are people that can go up to 21 days... How long do you plan on keeping the fasting going this time?

if you have the correct nutritional intake from the beginning you wouldn't have to do such a stupid thing. even a day of fasting is not good for your metabolism. just go with a 600 calorie deficit every day. again, fasting is not effective physically. what "gains" you're achieving are all mental, and are not worth effort.

What's the foundation for this? Something you've read or a whim? When I went through Navy Survival Training we went a couple of days without eating, just drinking. What I discovered was that while I was not dieing of hunger pains I was very tired as in no energy.

I've personally never fasted for more than a day once every blue moon, but one of my friends is currently fasting every other day (3 days a week, pretty much) as a means of weight loss. I don't really know if it's working for him yet (started recently) but I'd be totally miserable on a regime like that... What can I say -- I'm a sucker for regular meals? :p

Like someone else said, kudos if the mental aspects make it worthwhile for you, but I'm pretty skeptical of any long-term physiological benefits...
