When the iPad was launched didn't people proclaim "It's a big iPod touch!" "It will never replace netbooks." "No multitasking and no flash? No thanks." Yet it still sold incredibly well.

We will see disappointment at launch - just as we did for WWDC 2014 despite arguably the best software releases for a while - but it doesn't mean the iWatch won't sell, or be looked upon by history as revolutionary.

I'm sure it will sell by the bucketload, and maybe it's a watch for the 21st century, but wristwatches in general seem like a 20th century thing when it was convention that everyone wore one. We'll have to see the detail of what it can do before seeing if is revolutionary or not. Maybe it will be, or maybe it will just be an expensive trinket that needs charging every day.

LG and Samsung are really not good at design of new category of small consumer electronic devices, are they?

Apps

Internet is full of stories that Apple's iWatch is in production.
Surely if they were going to release this kind of thing they would need developers to have access to at least key specs so there are apps available at launch.

Watches are like mens jewellery! Why this?

Most likely I am completely of sync (as usual) with current trends, but I simply do not see why anyone would want to wear a clunky "watch-like" device. Wearing a watch is like jewellery for men. Even if the device has some "features" you cannot live without! Apple, you need to sharpen your minds before this launch!

Yeah I agree with you.
Wouldn't you wear a discreet fitness tracking wristband though?

If you go back on Macrumors and look up comments (be warned, its scary) right after the first iPod, first iPhone (actually, every iPhone), iPad, Apple TV......um, basically any announcement no one is every happy and as soon as the doors open for launch the lines stretch around the block and Apple has record sales.

Basically what I am trying to say is I don't know why I come to MacRumors, this crowd is already judging and saying they will not buy a product that hasn't even been announced yet, we can't even wait for it to become a thing for us to hate, we just hate it preemptively.

Well, multiple sizes would be good news, because I can't think of anything that would tank harder with regular non-nerd people than a 2.5 inch watchface.

It'd be like strapping a scientific calculator to your arm.

what if its just a band like fitbit etc but with a screen. More a fitness tracker than a full on huge watch. what then?

Therefore they hired the CEO of Yves Saint Laurent and Angela Ahrendts will probably play also a role in releasing and establishing the iWatch ;)
Apple is not stupid.

I'm sorry, but according to my sources, the iWatch will look something like this:

How many years until we could make something like that actually _work_ ?

Once it works, it might actually get fashionable :D

Or imagine an eBook reader with actual pages that you can turn! (And controls hidden on the back to pick which book you are actually reading). That would be absolutely cool!

I see. So that's what Ive meant when he said that they're working with new materials

LG clearly did not hire anyone from Yves Saint Laurent.

It's not an iWatch mock-up, it's an Android smartwatch from LG.

Maybe it is an iWatch mock-up and LG decided to sell it?

YSL design is really awesome for clothes but they don't make any good watches... I am not sure of any iconic women's wearable accessory designs from them either.

The more I read about the "iWatch", the more I believe that Apple might actually be trying to enter the sports watch market. In that sense google, samsung, motorola and others got it completely wrong. They thought that these devices would interest the general public, but why would the average joe want to measure their health data all the time?

Now, before you come back to me saying "I would", let me tell you this: there is a group of people that have been collecting and analyzing health data for years: athletes. Not even professional athletes but people that do work out.

There is a well established market of sports watches. Companies such as Sunnto, Garmin and Polar have offered "smart watches" with dozens of sensors for years. These will be the real contenders for Apple. Not samsung with it's stupid wrist-camera! :D

Hell, if someone is really interested in measuring his/her health data they do not have to wait for the iWatch. Just have a look at stuff like the garming 620 which has a heart rate monitor, gps, accelerometers, bluetooth, wifi, colour touch screen... Does that sound like an 'iWatch' to you?

My prediction is that the "iWatch" main focus will be the sports-watch functions with integration with iPhones as a (secondary) plus.

I really fail to understand why people are interested in a smart watch. I know there is a trend for health monitor but even that seems useless to me. Really I do not care about my heart rate or other vital signs while working, sleeping, eating...

That's what I'm saying! the iWatch will be targeted at people that work out, such as triathletes and runners. They already wear those gadgets to monitor things like spee/pace, cadence, vertical movement, pulse frequency and so on.

Couch-potato apple fanboys (99% of them) will be disappointed.

Just like any sports watch the one from apple will be bulky and ugly. But people that run do not care about that (ever seen a pair of running shoes? :) )

Monitoring all your vital signs will be just the first step. Then you can improve your health by changing your nutrition, lifestyle, etc.
It opens a whole new way of interacting with your body. Also there will be many new possibilities for doctors how to medicate you. Probably most of the thinks possible we can't imagine right now :)
