I agree with John Gruber that Apple rumor sites need to quit posting concept designs/mockups with their stories. This particular article is very vague and makes no mention of what this so-called "iWatch" is supposed to look like. Why is MR throwing up a mockup that maybe nothing like what the actual device (if it even exists) will look like?

More the point, is probably the least likely approach Apple would take to wearable tech. When did Apple start making dull and derivative products?

I don't get the point of an iWatch. I don't see it. I don't see the market beyond fitness-types. I hate wearing watches and if I do wear one... it better be sexy as hell. I don't want to talk to my wrist (phone is a bad idea), I don't want to bend my wrist at funny angles to take pictures... Seriously. I don't get it. I got the iPhone right away. Bought the first one on June 29th, 2007. Been a mac user most of my life... Just don't get the watch idea. An apple television, I could see, given the right feature set. But not a watch.

Moto's the one happily showing this off. Just the other day The Verge ran a huge puff piece on it. Just like they ran a piece on it when Android Wear was announced, saying it was the most beautiful smartwatch ever.

Doesn't matter, it is still unfinished and unreleased and may or may not look like the prototype presented. Passing judgement on something it could look like is silly.

Omg of course you don't see it! They didn't announce/release it yet. Just like people didn't see the point of the iPhone or iPad either.

Apple knows what they're doing. I'm sure you'll want it.

I'll be buying one to wear and one to save as a collectors item....or sell if the demand is absolutely stupid.

I can't wait for the thing to come out so I can stop having to look at these awful artists impressions.

You are thinking like someone who has their view of what the iWatch does (like Samsung thinks it is).

It's not going to have a camera to take pictures with (that is what your iPhone is for). It might have a front facing face time camera, but the point of this device is going to be HEALTH.

It's going to be the new thing that keeps track of your life.

It will be your NFC payment device to swipe over at checkout/gas station.
It will be your alarm in the morning whether it beeps /buzzes your wrist.
It will be your workout monitor and device and tracker (Nike Fuel software)
It will be your UV protector from the sun.
It will be your heart monitor for those that have conditions.
It will be you sleep monitor to see how you are resting.
It will be your GPS/Compass for locations.
It will be your notification device without having to look at your phone.
It will be gesture based and it will control other devices (Apple TV) with movements.
It will be etc...etc...
..and obviously it will keep time for you

I'm guessing fuel band likeness with metal wrist holders. It will be more like a band then a watch.

Wwdc

Taking bets that "small amount went into production" means for sure these will be units for the WWDC unveiling and for press etc to play with them until launch. They have to show it at the show:)

It's just a concept. The real thing will look 100x better.

Amazing how ridiculously clueless people are that this isn't the picture of the watch.

MR really needs to put stuff across the pictures that say (CONCEPT ART FROM NON APPLE SOURCE) for the gullible ones.

What is the black bar at the bottom of this watch face? Why isn't the entire face white? And is this an actual product that's shipping right now?

It's hard to pull off a completely round LCD screen without having connectors all around the display that would make that thin bezel impossible. I think that cutting down the bottom of the LCD enables them to concentrate connectors on the bottom of the screen.

What I think is a little dishonest from Motorola is that they have shown a lot of faked images of the device that didn't show this black bar at the bottom (such as the second one posted by Wuiffi).

And I don't think it's something they'll be able to "fix" for the official release as it's a physical limitation of how LCD (and OLED) screens work.

The black bar is relatively small, but it does put a dent in the idea of having a completely round screen.

So I guess we'll know how it looks in May.

Kind of sad with the age of all those leaks. :(

A little worried that this article mentions "small" quantities..

I don't think you understand what the article is getting at. You first build small quantities to make sure the end product is what you want (prototyping).... Any major product first goes thru a small run to get the manufacturing process down and work out any final kinks before it goes into full production....

They don't mean they are making small quantities for release to the public. That would be Ridiculous.

I'm still not convinced Apple is going to make something akin to the Moto 360. Do people really need a small touch screen on their wrist that just echoes notifications from their phone? I'm more interested in Apple just making a very sleek band that monitors data and syncs with healthbook. Something so comfortable you could sleep with it on and it monitors your sleep patterns.

This is precisely what I hope the iwatch will be. I don't want a mini smartphone on my wrist with tiny apps. I want something unobtrusive and so comfortable I can leave it on when I sleep. I especially like the idea of it vibrating to wake you up.
