Kuo is wrong this time. No way in hell it'll be several thousand dollars....
Sure, several thousand dollars in say, Hong Kong currency, I'll be fine with it, but I'm sure Kuo is talking about USD.

Makes zero sense.
Not going to believe until the real device comes out.

I'm not as skeptical on this as most of you on the first page are. Rolex, Omega, etc. costs thousands, so why can't this? Maybe James Bond will wear it along with his Sony phone...

Pretty please let it be a couple thousand dollars for the high end model. I will laugh and laugh and laugh for days on end.

It will have virtual gears and springs. Open the back and watch them move, just like a real mechanical watch. It will tick, too. If you want. There will be gear and display apps so you can get ridiculously complicated mechanicals, faces with numerous dials, moon phases, planets circling, tides...whatever. If you are in a sketchy area, merely turn it to cheap mode and it will look totally unworthy.

How come nobody told me it was Wacky Rumor Day? And where is M G Siegler with his quarterly "Apple television will be released any day now" rumor?

Anyway, a flexible AMOLED implies it will be curved, while a sapphire cover means that it will not in fact be flexible. So probably a square/rectangle that curves in one dimension (around the wrist), although this is a little odd as there is a very large range of wrist radiuses, meaning it might be awkward on some people.

The ONLY way this watch will cost more than a few hundred bucks is if it has very powerful specs (think iPhone 5s) and is able to "project" to a display to use. Imagine always having your computer with you, all you need is the screen. ;-)

With that said, I think we are at least a few years away from this type of technology.

this is an exciting time... new possible product(s) from Apple, a company that has a pretty good track record of producing great/innovating products; therefore, i will reserve the bashing untill the product is announced to avoid making a fool out of myself :) ... it will be tough for Apple to take my Tag away from me !

Doubt it

I seriously doubt that Apple would do all of this for a possible wearable iDevice and then make it so prohibitively expensive.

A top-end iWatch at several thousands of dollars? No chance in hell.

The watch industry disagrees with you considering it already happens.

----------

Several thousand for a watch that will be obsolete in two years, sure

No thanks...

Think about this...what if the band is swappable with the main guts.

So you have a display/sensor/etc that can detach just like any other watch.

But the band, etc..is where the high end materials come in.

It does make sense. Where is there absurd money in?...it's jewelry.

If they make the iWatch band, even say the rim etc swappable, rich people are going to want the more expensive looks.

Oh dear God, several thousand! Yeah that has fail written all over it. It's made by Apple and everyone else will have one, to cost several thousand it would need to be stupidly revolutionary!
A watch that costs more then a Mac Pro..

meh I like the Omega Dark Side of The Moon and that's several thousand, but it's also a piece of mechanical art and will last a hell of a lot longer then an iWatch.

Here son, as your fathers passed away have his mechanical masterpiece automatic Swiss watch.. wow thanks!

Here son, as your fathers passed away have his iWatch, it cost thousands you know..... Nah it's alright I have one already that is several versions more advanced..

But thinking about it even more... if Apple seriously do make one version that costs thousands, I will literally fall of my chair laughing very very very hard... because the competition they will face will destroy them! And none of the competition are smart watches!

I would never buy an art watch that costs several thousands. Not everyone has to have the latest tech as long as the current one is functional. An iWatch with the bling would last if the battery is replaceable. I would rather have expensive iWatch over Rolex any day. I want it to be functional like a computer and fashionable like a fancy watch. Once its tech is obselete, it is like any fancy watch that only tells time.

I think it's a plausible high-end option - watches predominantly sell these days due to fashion, not functionality. Having variety, with some very expensive top-end options is key to making the iWatch more than just an electronic gizmo, but actually a watch. Maybe it's not several thousand dollars, but it had better have some expensive versions.

There are obvious challenges, like product lifetime - maybe Apple can implement an elegant "replaceable parts" solution.

Some won't buy expensive jewelry that only tells time. Geeks or folks that love tech also want its toys look good too. iWatch would have that combo.

Thousands? Oh, I get it, it'd be like a Rolex or some other obscenely ridiculously expensive manufacturer.

Does nobody here understand that the "top end" model for several thousand Dollars might be more like a Rolex than an iWatch/GalaxyGear-type device?

With real gold instead of aluminium or expensive leather or even diamonds...

Watches have become a fashion statement in the last few years (have been before too, but now, you only wear one if you consider it part of your jewelry/fashion), so if the iWatch will look like a watch and be worn like a watch, some people will only buy it if it looks like "Yeah, I paid 10k bucks for my watch".

This top end model won't be comparable to the 64gb iPhone, but to a 64gb iPhone that's plated with gold and diamonds.

Everyone here understands Apple makes mass market consumer tech. Not what you're suggesting. Apple is not Vertu. Who in there right mind would want something like that? Key words: right mind.

hmmmm...

First - I hope it doesnt look like the pic above. I hope it really doesnt look like a watch at all, and maybe more of the band variety.

Second - there is no way they will price it at several thousand dollars. They're looking to hit a wide market - and be competitive. It will likely be priced higher than competitors, but thats expected with Apple - but the price will be competitive.

Third- They are probably working on the iwatch 2, 3, and 4 as they gear up for 1. I think Ill wait for at least the second go round.

You had me until NFC

Along with a multitude of biometric sensors, coupled in a system-in-a-package design, Kuo predicts the iWatch will include integration with the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, along with a "fashionable appearance," an NFC chip, and a slim and light design.

Yeah, I don't think Apple is going to include NFC. Sorry there chum. iBeacon yes, NFC? No.

I wonder if the KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo quoted in this story is related to the KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo quoted in the story right below.

Maybe they are cojoined twins, but only one of them has a hyphen and a brain. :D
