Actually most adults actually do care about social status. That is why they brush their teeth and generally dress up in nice clothes instead of going out like slobs, so they don't have the same social status as a homeless person.

Social status is going to be conveyed one way or another by the public. It might be conveyed by a set of people (kids, people working out at the gym) by an iWatch, but another set of people with Movados or Tag Heurs is going to look down on that, while another set of people with Rolexes or Patek Phillipes or Richard Mille Tourbillons is going to look down on even that.

Which social status do you want to have? Would you like to have a social status and be treated like a homeless person?

If not, then you care about social status.

The homeless are human beings too, just like you and I. So just because they are homeless they should be treated differently? I treat people the way I like to be treated. I respect people for who they are. Everyone doesn't lead a glorious life and have the things that many of us take for granted.

Apple's shitclock's tickin, and I'm gonna be there when it runs out. Just off to pop my Patek Philippe on EBay before it's worthless. Several thousand dollars. Lol!

The iWatch rumors are getting more and more ridiculous. Now, can someone predict when we'll have a retina iMac in the 27" or 30" range :)

1 day battery life is fine if it wirelessly charges on your wrist while you sleep.

Wireless charging doesn't work like that. It means it can sit on a base to charge, so i then wonder if the watch will have sleep tracking/silent vibrating alarm, because if its not on your wrsit at night (which it will be if it only lasts a working day), then it can't monitor.

Cost!

Was just thinken about the first iPads. They, at the time were called too expensive.

If Apples wareable device does materialize, we will buy it.
No matter what the cost, this time.
We all will not want to be late adaptors this time.

This time, "early adaptors" in the face of the pundits. And there should be a bunch of those turkeys....always the first few months or so...lol

Y'all know we will need it.
As Apple makes things we didn't know we needed, it has been said.

From all the theories I have been reading of late, the thing should be virtually
indestructible....haha...last near forever one would think?
Every physical part the battery? Maybe pulse once in a while. Just to let ya know it's there...it will be ....well, magical... :)

When we look back at these mockups after the real product is out, we will laugh the same way as we do now when looking at iPhone mockups before the original came out.

Some of the mockups were a lot closer than that. Those just added a slideout keyboard to something that looks like an iPod.

Reminds me of the "I'm Smartwatch" from Italy.

It comes in $350 plastic versions, $900 titanium, and gold versions starting from $2,000 up to $20,000 for a jewel encrusted version.

I wonder how many they've sold of the higher end models.

*sigh* It's just the luxury edition has so much more eagle. I would hate to think of you missing out.

I'll stick with Bulova, Movado, Rolex, and Tag Heuer. The iWatch just doesn't appeal to me.

Wait, I'm sorry, I'm sorry… the iWatch doesn't even EXIST right now, outside of Apple R&D. How on Earth could you even know if it appeals to you or not? You have literally zero information to go on, and yet are making a statement about the appeal of a product that for all intents and purposes, has not been created yet.

I know people like you. Ugh.

I'm beginning to wonder if Apple might pursue a similar strategy to iOS in the car/CarPlay. With that, they're clearly licensing the OS to the auto manufacturers and not actually making a single physical product.

Why couldn't the same strategy be used with wearables? The core functions of the "Watch"--tracking, sensors, microphone and speakers etc could all be essentially invisible to the user. If the OS is Siri driven, which is logical, then I question the need to even have a display at all.

I can already control my phone calls, text messages, music player, navigation and more without touching or looking at my iPhone. If that's what this product does--in addition to the bio-sensors--it doesn't need a display of it's own.

This means that existing watch makers could build it right into their own designs. The same could be said of numerous fashion accessories.

Apple could easily make their own iWatch, but it's appeal will be naturally limited to people based on fit and fashion sense. It could be priced reasonably and include a flexible display. But for those that don't care for the design, what's stopping Apple from working with the Rolex & Tag Heuer's of the world to incorporate the tech into their well known and successful high end products?

A top-end iWatch at several thousands of dollars? No chance in hell.

Have you seen Tag Heuer, Raymond Weil, Movado, and other watches that run $1,000 to $3,000. If the styling and finish is done right, then yes, the top end iWatch could easily fall in the $1,200 to $2,500 price range, especially if it durable, and can be updated via software updates. Don't think in terms of tech, think in terms of fashion watches.

I used to think paying >$700 for a mobile phone would be crazy...

If this iWatch turns out to be as big a deal as the iPhone, if everybody suddenly 'needs' one, then the price tag begins to seem less crazy

This Amalyst is one of the very few people that are connected and have been 99% on the money on their predictions so I would tend to believe that what he's saying could be true

Kuo's report

Hi, does anyone know where to find's KGI's Kuo's report on iWatch and vertical integration of Apple businesses? I am writing about tech M&A and would use the report in my thesis. Thanks.

What about all of those here who think that Samsung copied Apple and has released two versions of the Galaxy Gear watch in response to Apple's non existent watch?

My first thought when I heard thousand of dollars for a watch was, LOL

A medical device maybe but Apple would not want to spend the money to certify it.

A device that would be considered a piece of jewelry with diamonds would not appeal to many.

I doubt many would want to pay more than $300 and on top of that who would want to buy ver 1.0, so I'm back to LOL

yes!

I hope it is brilliant and costs a fortune all the Android/Walmart shopper/99¢ menu f's go back to watching Fox news. Jesus I'm tired of the pathetic.

After test driving the original Galaxy Gear for a week, if the iWatch can get 4 days of battery life it just leap frogged to the top of my list. How have them slotted so far

1. iWatch (pending battery review)
2. Moto 360
3. Gear Fit

People will pay several thousand dollars for a Rolex, because it's high end jewellery and will literally last their lifetime. No chance of it being upgraded with new features. The technology has been the same for hundreds of years.

But several thousand for a smart watch that will be obsolete in a year? Total BS

Lol. You said it,but i sure hope the screen doesn't look as simple as that.

Reminds me of my first basic watch. And this is the next big thing?. I wonder

It will have virtual gears and springs. Open the back and watch them move, just like a real mechanical watch. It will tick, too. If you want. There will be gear and display apps so you can get ridiculously complicated mechanicals, faces with numerous dials, moon phases, planets circling, tides...whatever. If you are in a sketchy area, merely turn it to cheap mode and it will look totally unworthy.

That would actually be kind of cool...

I always wondered how Ive would design a watch he would actually wear when he wears stuff like this:

jony-ive-and-marc-newson-customize-jaeger-lecoultre-and-atmos-watches-for-sothebys-auction-2.jpg

These are the kind of watches people pay thousands of dollars for.
