Is apple gifting the watches to all the celebs or are they getting to purchase them ahead of everyone.

Regardless, now we know why there is such a shortage.

It is part of their marketing strategy. Device manufacturers have been doing this for years, several handset manufacturers used to have "styling offices" in Hollywood for this very purpose.

The units displayed by the celebrities were part of a manufacturing forecast long before the Apple Watch announcement.

They have nothing to do with your perceived shortage.

Good for him, can't stand him and his arrogance but he's got a nice watch.. which is all I can say that he has going for him.

These are more then likely free gifts to these celebrities. Companies use celebrities all the time to market their products. Seeing a celebrity with something many times causes others to go out and buy it. Abrams is worth around $95 million so after the interview he probably went back to his $100,000 custom watch.

yep, friend of mine bought a Blackberry cuz Kim Kardashian always used one smh. it's nuts but it's apparently working.

you ruined Lost JJ....

Technically, he didn't do anything bad for Lost. He created the concept and then was just hands off. He became a producer. The first and second season were great, while he was there. Once it was left up to Lindelof and Lieber, it went to hell in a handbasket.

Why does Apple keep giving multi million celebs expensive watches while the common folk struggle to pay for their low end sport edition.

I don't think a $1000 watch is 'expensive' to these people. These people wear Pateks, and the like. Try $50,000-$250,000 watches.

Not to be that guy but I'm going to be that guy.

Why is it that rich people get the watch early for free and yet customers have to purchase it and then wait? It reminds me of the tax system of the USA.
...
1. The watches are Apple's property, so they can do what they want with them.
2. They give them to celebrities because they think the value of the celebrity being seen with the watch is worth more than value of the watch.
3. If they didn't give YOU a watch, they think the value of YOU being seen with the watch is worth less than the value of the watch.

I'm just saying I want the watch now too. :)

Go make $400k -$500k a year and then come back and report on the taxes you paid.

Yup. People who state that these freebies...even if they gave away 500 watches has little to no impact on the production and distribution of 2-3million watches. It goes to show that many people have no idea what a Million really is. It's a lot. Lol.

I almost didn't recognize him without lens flare.

Ya, it's him.

Seems like Apple is spending more on marketing for the Watch than any other product. I didn't see any celebs use an iPhone before launch. Or an iPod.

Is Apple not confident enough the watch will sell itself?

The iPhone is their cash cow. Apple would never let that thing into people's hands before the launch date.
