I do agree with you on this. The hardware for AWS in the GSM variant already, but I don't think Apple has issued firmware updates for iPhones before, and won't make an exception this time around.

I was also talking to a guy with a Mexican carrier iphone user that tried messing with the carrier config files and even though that band was supported on his iphone his carrier didn't push out a config file out yet to enable LTE usage. His results weren't that great with altering the ipcc files but when the official carrier settings were pushed by his provider and phone was restored it functioned as it should.

bad choice, I did that with an unsupported carrier it worked fine it picked up LTE but the signal was erratic, sent calls to voicemail, didn't reconnect back to LTE after a call etc etc.. after a few weeks apple released the approved original update for LTE in my country, I unistalled commcenterpatch and the hacked file and installed the original and it behaved the same way, also I recommend switching off the LTE switch because it might cause 3G timeout issues, it happened to me when i did the hack

After a restore the phone picked up original file and never had any issue at all on LTE it connects back and reconnects back instantly switching to 3G for calls/coverage etc.

which sucks because a fresh restore will make you lose your jailbreak,

They should just wait until WWDC and see if the other exploits that they have are fixed. If they're fixed then they should burn them and release a jail break for iOS 6.1.3 in July (there's no way that Apple would bother releasing a new update that would only useful for 1-2 months).

Only the annoucement of iOS 7 is expected in june not the actual release so they can't check if they are closed until the final release.
Besides that the exploits they are security risks to iOS and Apple does like those. So Apple would fix those.

Until we have confirmation that there's internal differences in the new A1428 model, my guess is that FCC certification is the reason Apple needs to release a new model versus simply updating the chipset (which does technically support AWS). A similar but not exact situation can be seen with the Nexus 4-the chipset is capable of connecting to AWS LTE but Google disabled it in radio updates as it would be a violation of FCC regulations since the handset was not tested for this when it was certified.

Even if this wasn't the case, flashing the chipset to enable AWS 3G doesn't seem like something that can be done easily, so it sucks for us T-Mobile users anyway.

I've had nothing but problems since upgrading to 6.1.2, wish I would have stayed on 6.1 it ran without issue. Now I am facing horrible battery life, apps crash often but I love biteSMS, Nitrous, NCSettings too much to upgrade to 6.1.3 but I have a feeling it's going to come down to it soon. :(

I hear you. I had to get my 5 replaced and went from flawless 6.1 to buggy 6.1.2. I hope nothing serious happens, no way I can go back to jail!

I'm running 6.1 on my iphone 5. It runs perfect. I was thinking about selling it soon. Seeing that being jailbroken on 6.1 could be a good selling point can I just erase all my accounts? Thanks in advance.

Apple already confirmed it...

I mean erase my accounts so the new buyer can use the phone as is. Like mail,iCloud, iTunes and cydia.

I say jailbreak now. I'm on 6.1.2 so I don't lose my jailbreak regardless but if they wait, there's a chance Apple will inadvertently close whatever exploits they have left. Assuming of course, it's true that jailbreak teams have stockpiles of jailbreak exploits sitting around.

The harsh truth is that iOS 7 will probably be a while before being jailbroken just like iOS 6 was.

However, I'm sure they were pretty tired from the time invested into iOS 6.1 jailbreak.

This ought to make our 6.1.2 and below devices worth a PRETTY penny to those who missed out and realise it in a few months. Too bad I just can't live without activator.

Thanks applejuiced. That's great to know if I sell. I sure do love having my iphone jailbroken. It will be hard for me to buy the 5s because it will be some time before the next jailbreak comes available.

and thats the man himself....

Crashes into safe mode that often? That's a result of the evasi0n jailbreak. My 3Gs rarely if ever crashes into safe mode. A testament to its well designed bootrom jailbreak. Apple will never stop signing the latest version of iOS for the 3Gs unless Apple stops to existing. Else they'd have a big lawsuit on their hands for rendering millions of devices inoperable. They haven't stopped signing the latest version of iOS for the iPad 1 and iPod Touch 3 yet. Why would they stop with the iPhone 3Gs?

How would they make millions of devices inoperable if 6.1.3 is the latest firmware that they are signing for the 3GS. You cannot download iOS 6.1.3 on the iPhone 2G. If you need to do a restore I believe 3.1 is the version it restores to.

They are stupid to not work 6.1.3 jailbreak and wait for iOS 7. iOS 7 beta is not even released and full firmware usually releases 2-3 months after beta. iOS 7 will be released with iPhone 5S in October/November time, so there's plenty of time left. Why can't they just work on 6.1.3 jailbreak?

If only I was aware that Cydia corrupts iOS 6 blobs, then I would never have upgraded :(

if they are so stupid to not work on a jb, does it make you smart that you dont read or follow-up with jb news that said DO NOT UPGRADE to 6.1.3?

Sorry for you.
Start working on a 6.1.3 JB yourself.

If iOS 7 was release tomorrow and the 3Gs did not support it and Apple stopped signing the latest version of iOS for the 3Gs, 6.1.3, it would render the devices mostly inoperable because end users would not be able to restore their devices. Just like if Apple was to stop signing iOS 5.1.1 for the iPad 1, which is also the latest version of iOS for the iPad.
