If iOS 7 was release tomorrow and the 3Gs did not support it and Apple stopped signing the latest version of iOS for the 3Gs, 6.1.3, it would render the devices mostly inoperable because end users would not be able to restore their devices. Just like if Apple was to stop signing iOS 5.1.1 for the iPad 1, which is also the latest version of iOS for the iPad.

I have no idea what you are talking about. If they were to release iOS 7 Tomorrow and the 3Gs didn't support it, you would simply restore your device to 6.1.3 and not iOS 7, the same way that your iPad 1 only works on 5.1.1 and not iOS 6

I'm sure part of the reason Apple does this is to get people to purchase a new device. They don't make any money off of their OS. iOS 6 is a free download. They are in the business of selling hardware.

Let's revisit your first statement that brought us here:
I wonder if 3GS users are going to be bragging about their phones once Apple stops signing the latest firmware for the 3GS

My return statement:
Apple will never stop signing the latest version of iOS for the 3Gs unless Apple stops to existing.

Note the very precise wording. Apple will never stop signing the latest version of iOS for the 3Gs. Be it iOS 6.1.3 or iOS 6.2.9. Apple will continue to sign it. Even after iOS 8 has been released. Unless they stop existing as a company. We can look at the history of Apple signing the latest version of iOS for the iPad 1. The latest version is iOS 5.1.1. Is Apple still signing iOS 5.1.1 for the iPad 1? Yes. Will Apple continue to do so until they are no longer around? Very likely. What would happen if they were to stop signing it in the year 2025? There might be a lawsuit against them or they may release a master key for it.

Apple does this to prevent people from downgrading to older less secure firmwares. From a security viewpoint, a jailbreak is a very big problem. Apple isn't targeting jailbreaks, they are targeting security flaws. Jailbreaking just makes the flaws come forward and enable Apple to patch them with ease and cheaply. Why would Apple spend a large sum of money to a security firm when they can wait a bit for a jailbreak to come out and point out the flaws for free? Apple is a business, their end goal of the day is to make money. Always make money and nothing else. If Apple truly wanted people to purchase a new iOS device, they'd stop signing all firmwares for the old devices that are unable to run the current shipping version of iOS. That of course would be a large problem as outlined above.

Yeah whatever dude. If you have an iPhone 3G you cannot restore to iOS 6. Wouldn't surprise me that if you have a 3GS you cannot install iOS 7.

Apple still signs the latest version of iOS for the iPhone 3G as well. Even though they are soft SHSH blobs, they are signed. Apple will also continue to sign the latest version of iOS for the 3Gs as well. It's all in the wording. Read it well and comprehend it.

I think the vast majority of people that were waiting for an iOS 6 jailbreak, are using jailbroken phones. It's totally not worth it to waste exploits on a minor update.

I'm sure you can find a jailbroken phone on eBay if you really want one.

Uh oh, looks like iOS 7 won't be available for the 3GS. I guess I was right and you were wrong.

He's not saying Apple will sign the newest iOS for the 3GS, he's saying they will never stop signing the latest version of iOS that can be installed on the 3GS.

I never said iOS 7 would be compatible with the 3Gs. If you thought I said otherwise, go review your highschool logic notes. I only said that Apple will never stop signing the latest for that device. In the case of the 3Gs, its latest OS is iOS 6.1.3.

Lol :D
Your reading comprehension is not that great.
Actually he is right and you are wrong :D

No You are wrong. Read what I wrote on Post #101. 3GS owners can only update to 6.1.3. I stated it then and I stand by it now.

What is awesome is that hopefully this will put an end to 3GS users bragging about how great their phone is.

Post 101 is just a dumbed down rehash of post 100.

It will never stop old bootrom 3Gs owners. Verbose boot and real boot logos forever!

It honestly bothers you that much iPhone 3GS users are proud of their iPhones?

Interesting, in a rubber-necking sort of way.

It's annoying how they brag about how they have an untethered jailbreak on an 6.1.3

I've got a jailbroken iPod touch 4th generation which is pretty much the same specs. Super slow and no retina screen. I will take an iPhone 5 on iOS 7 any day over a 3GS with a 6.1.3 jailbreak

Can we close this threat as it is going nowhere?

What is awesome is that you still haven't figured out what he was saying... :)
