This thread has become very entertaining....keep the misinformation coming!! Of course that is except for The Latinist, DHLizard, and a couple of others who actually know what they are talking about!!

Still wondering, if you can upgrade an iphone to 4.0 beta 1, jailbreak it and save the hashes with cydia, could it be downgraded to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3? (4.0 on the 3GS can not currently be jailbroken, though...)

If you don't have a 3Gs the Hashes are not applicable.

Yeah, sorry, my post was a little confused, it was me suddenly remembering the 3GS can't be jailbroken even with 4.0 beta 1.

I do have a 3GS, so the question is, hypothetically, if I could jailbreak it with an upcoming 4.0 jailbreak, could I then store the hashes and downgrade to 3.1.2? For instance? The annoying thing is that most of the features I want (folders/better sms) are in the 4.0 OS... I just wish it was out and bug-free...

Did you store the hashes for 3.1.2 BEFORE 3.1.3 was released (early February)? If not, it's too late now; you would only be able to downgrade back to 3.1.3.

Are you thinking of a 4.0 beta JB or a 4.0 JB when the FW is officially released?
Cydia will most likely store your official 4.0 hashes even if you are still on 3.1.x, much like the present.

if you believe you will be able to acquire a 3.1.2 hash for your phone when your JB on 4.0 read Penguissimo's post^^

Yeah, I wasn't sure if the hashes were different for each OS release. Mainly I just want folders, so I'll be happy as soon as OS 4.0 official comes out.

jesus christ people... read the ****ing thread before asking the same questions over and over and over again... find the answers yourself for a change instead of being lazy enough to have to wait for an answer from a forum when the answer you seek is literally a few pages back... it's not a difficult task

sorry... venting complete

Hello everyone,

first I'd like to confirm something weird, I've bought my Iphone 3 GS the first of July so just when It came out but I have a new bootrom, how can it be?

Second, with spirit that will be released on friday ( if all goes well) 3.1.3 new bootrom will jailbreakable, then do you think there is a possibility to use snowbreeze or else since It require to be jailbreakable first to unlock it.

Thanks

If you bought your phone in May 2009, it has to have old bootrom
Spirit is a jailbreak only
Sn0wbreeze is a jailbreak only
Neither will unlock your phone
We all expect an unlock to be released after firmware 4.0 is released to the public (probably in June)
You will have to wait to unlock your phone.

Thank you for the quick answer, no I bought my Iphone the 1 of July when It came in France ( It's a French one), only few days later the actual release.

The Spirit jailbreak is most useful for newer devices: iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, and the iPads. Unfortunately those devices are the same ones that Apple can prevent you from downgrading unless you’ve got a backup of your personalized SHSH blobs. Unless you’ve backed up your SHSH blobs for vulnerable firmware versions, you’ll lose the ability to use the current Spirit jailbreak if you accidentally upgrade.

Please take the steps now to backup your SHSH blobs. Use either Firmware Umbrella to create a local copy, or go through saurik’s server. If you are getting an iPad 3G, it’s safest to backup your blobs using Firmware Umbrella, in case saurik’s server gets bogged down with requests.

i cannot understand a single bit of it.can any one help me to save my SHSH blobs and also how to get my ecid number alongwith guide for umbrella

I just JB'd and unlocked my iphone 3Gs wich is running on 3.1.3 FW and has the new 05.12.01 bootrom.
First made a back-up through itunes, and than downloaded Spirit, it's as easy as Blackra1n and runs just perfect!

There is no unlock for baseband 5.12.xx on a 3GS, so you cannot possibly have unlocked.
